I bloody hope it's Sara Cox - I love her!

Glad he is going, sick to death of him going on about his kids, putting his kids on the show, putting other people's kids on the show,Tash, 500 bloody words !, car fest etc. etc. passive aggressive to the others on the team, (the excellent Lyn Bowles and Vassos) however, I am sure his intentions are good for raising money for children in need, I think his Mum raised him to be a good person, unfortunately his ego takes over and dilutes this. As much as I like Sara Cox, it would be nice to have someone new, not someone everyone already has opinions on and on everything (yes, I do mean you, Holly Willowby!), when he goes can he also take Moira with him? Surprised given his extreme wealth and twins on the way he is going to do another breakfast show, some people are never satisfied with the hand they have been given

The80sweregreat · 03/09/2018 13:43

jitters, made me smile - lovey.

JynxaSmoochum · 03/09/2018 13:44

I like Trevor Nelson doing Ken Bruce. I love Ken, and Trevor is the best cover Ken has had for years. I'm not sure if Trevor is breakfast show material with his cool, laid back style but I'd be happy to be proved wrong about that Smile

Holidayshopping · 03/09/2018 13:46

Sara Cox took over from Zoe Ball on the Radio 1 breakfast show years ago and whilst I actually really liked her, I don’t remember her being terribly popular?

The80sweregreat · 03/09/2018 13:47

agree about Trevor, he is very laid back and plays some decent tunes.
some of the 'stand ins' are better than the regulars.

explodingid · 03/09/2018 14:09

Grin @jitters.

Stormzyandme · 03/09/2018 14:12

Trevors voice is just bloody lushers Grin

Jitters I have a stinking cold and am now coughing my head off after laughing at that GrinGrin

GoatYoga · 03/09/2018 14:22

The Sarah Cox haters - why?

I am from the same town as Sara - I just find her incredibly false. It’s the exaggerated northerner that gets to me most - like we all sound a bit stupid and eat nothing but pies...

explodingid · 03/09/2018 14:40

Yes I agree goat she is a bit like sporty spice, their accents and intonation just don't appear natural.

beverleyheelbilly · 03/09/2018 15:19

Graham Norton please!!

ICantBelieveIDidThis · 03/09/2018 15:29

In order of preference, my choice would be

Sara Cox
Richard Allinson
Alex Lester
Jo Wiley

Not

Vanessa Feltz
Steve Wright
Mark Goodier

Simon Mayo is fab on Drivetime.

Lisa Tarbuck could swap with Sara Cox.

ICantBelieveIDidThis · 03/09/2018 15:30

Am I dreaming or does Sara Cox do some of the radio ads for Smart Meters?

It really sounds like her....

LittleBookofCalm · 03/09/2018 15:39

oh no, not Richard Bacon. or Trevor Nelson, dont like their voices.
claudia Winkleman would be just Lovely

Jitters22 · 03/09/2018 16:04

Richard Allinson has to be the most under-rated Radio 2 DJ ever!

He was great, but apart from a brief Saturday afternoon stint and some specialist shows, he was only ever used as a stand-in, including standing in for Chris Evans in the early days. I used to post on the Radio 2 boards years ago, and the punters there used to prefer RA to CE. I don't think it went down too well with the management and not long after that they stopped using him and he 'left' Radio 2.

I once had my oldies played on Steve Wright - only Richard was standing in that day and not only did I get them played in their entirety without anyone talking over intros, cutting them short or singing - he kept name checking me and saying 'these are great oldies Jitters!'

Grin

For anyone who doesn't remember - here's a very brief Radio 2 snippet of him introducing a record. Great voice, didn't talk too much, always made the music the star of the show unlike some we could mention.

Great interviewer too. Doesn't interrupt or talk over the guest or make the interview about himself - also like some we could mention. Here he is interviewing Phil Collins

LittleBookofCalm · 03/09/2018 16:11

I used to love Richard Allinson on Capital, and always mightily pleased to hear him

loveka · 03/09/2018 16:17

I just love Chris Evans, I can't bear it that he's not doung breakfast any more. He makes tedious M25 jams bearable.

I think I would like Simon Mayo. But he makes the returning jam in the evening bearable!

MrsMozart · 03/09/2018 16:18

Given the ballsup the Beeb has made of the Drivetime show it'll have to think very carefully about who it uses.

HerBigChance · 03/09/2018 16:19

@ICan'tBelieve....

The voice in the smart meters ad sounds like Maxine Peake to me.

megletthesecond · 03/09/2018 16:25

Grin jitters I can hear her voice saying that.

alligatorsmile · 03/09/2018 16:39

Gawd, no, don't take Moira away too! She's one of the diminishingly few newsreaders who don't EMPHasise random WORDS and SYLlables for no REAson.

alligatorsmile · 03/09/2018 16:44

LOVE Sara Cox, but not keen on Jo Whiley. Not sure what she was supposed to bring to Mayo's drivetime, it was working as it was. She's got a voice like someone forcing brass tacks through a trumpet, I have to switch off the minute she pipes up.

Disfordarkchocolate · 03/09/2018 17:19

Can't imagine either Graham Norton or Claudia Winkleman want the commitment of the breakfast show.
