Naked Attraction: where are the pubes??

I know, I know, it's a dreadful programme, but it's hilarious. But none of the women have any pubic hair. Is this really the norm now? I find that really sad.

OP posts:

I'm mid thirties and have it waxed. It's mostly all removed, I'm just left with a tiny strip on the front. I love it, it feels clean and smooth.

Everyoneiswingingit · 01/09/2018 12:59

You can do what you like pink but it's not for men to reject women because they are not 'tidy' enough in that area!!!

Namethecat · 01/09/2018 13:10

You come into the world without pubes and leave it ( at old age, it mainly disappears due to hormones) without it. What goes on between those times is everyone's own business. Can't see the point of programmes like this. Surely we all know what a fanny and cock looks like.

ForalltheSaints · 01/09/2018 13:40

I am a man. Other than in relationships the only time I see naked women of various ages is in spas when I visit the Netherlands.

Whilst bare is much more common than was the case it is by no means universal. Noticeable that in small scale spas or festival type ones there is fewer women with complete removal. Lots of men 'manscape' too.

pinkhorse · 01/09/2018 18:00

Why can't men reject women for not being tidy enough? Everyone has their preferences for physical appearance e.g. hair colour, tall, short etc. Its just another of those.

annandale · 01/09/2018 19:06

'I like hairless genitals'
'She's not tidy enough'

Different ways of saying it? Having a preference is ok. Judgmental euphemisms less so. I've never forgotten a documentary about FGM where a man said his mother told him to make sure he married a 'clean girl' ie one who'd had her clitoris sliced off. Better to state clearly what you mean.

Ravenesque · 01/09/2018 19:07

I don't agree that it's not a personal choice, but it's definitely not a choice within a vacuum, that is we're making a choice, but consumerism is pushing us toward it, because shaving watching, varieties of topiary creates an industry and makes money. If we all lived in the seventies there might be the odd naked foo, but they would be few and very far between, because the "choice" wasn't a thing back then. Not that you couldn't, but it wasn't yet something to make money off and so it was highly unusual for anyone to think about it. Equally in earlier years it was unusual for women to shave anything at all. All of these "choices" are based on industry creations and messages telling us that hair is ugly anywhere except on our heads and must be gotten rid of.

All of that is fine if that's what you want but we all have to understand that our choices are only partly personal because they are often "new" choices that are offered to us by the beauty industry or the so-called health and beauty industry. The one huge issue I do have with the bald trend is that women are often told that it is more hygienic. It isn't. Our pubic hairs are there to protect our vaginas from bacteria and viruses. It's fine to go bald, or Brazilian or Hitler if that's what you want, but the full bush is far healthier.

Oh and as for porn. In the seventies and early eighties porn was full of not just bush, but huge bush at times, luxuriant gardens of all of the pubes. Pubes are making a small porn comeback but that is all about fetish and giving blokes something a bit different to wank over when they get fed up with full views of the vulva and vagina and the reason bald became a thing in porn was probably because it made for better close ups of the vag. No hair getting in the way.

In terms of it being recent, it is. Relatively. It started becoming a really big deal in probably the 90s, possibly late eighties in the US. where it kicked off big style before it kicked off here, as do most things body related. It probably got underway in Brazil though, hence the Brazillian, because of the teeny tiny bikinis.

Oh and as for Marilyn Monroe. As far as I know she never said she had no hair from the neck down, or whatever. She was alleged to have bleached her muff so that the carpet matched the curtains though.

Ravenesque · 01/09/2018 19:08

watching = waxing. I must have had Naked Attraction on the brain!

maxthemartian · 01/09/2018 19:22

It does amuse when when every single person who has a bald twat insists that it's "their personal choice". How odd that so many make that choice now when they didn't in the seventies. I wonder why that is?

Everyoneiswingingit · 01/09/2018 19:35

Exactly max I know my teen DDs don't want to wax their hair but one has said she feels she should. That is why I am so angry about it.

MrsJBaptiste · 01/09/2018 20:51

I much prefer to be hair free down there, so much less faff than sorting out your bikini line. Just take it all off and then do a quick going over with the razor every few days. I don't get people going on about itchy regrowth either, I've never had this problem. Do your legs or armpits itch when the hair starts to grow back?

DH likes the trim his pubic hair too, not fully off (I wouldn't like that) but just thins it out. We both do it because we prefer it that way, not because either of us ask the other to do it.

maxthemartian · 01/09/2018 21:02

I suppose it depends on skin sensitivity? I tried shaving it off once and got the most horrific shaving rash. Reshaving would have been out of the question. And the regrowth itched like nothing else on earth.
Never again!

Yes, this! These choices are not made in a vacuum.

I have a bald twat right now, not through choice, but because I have no hair anywhere due to chemo. Whilst it's handy not having to trim or bikini shave at all, I hate the way it looks with no hair at all down there, i think it looks and feels really weird!

WhingyNinja · 01/09/2018 21:36

I've tried a bit of everything and right now I have it trimmed as it really was getting a bit too luxuriant and making me look like I'm hiding something in my knickersShock.

I'm 28 and absolutely felt pressured to be hair free when I was a teenager but since I was 22 or so I decided I didn't want to shave anymore. I think it was Caitlin Moran who made me change my mind. I've even been known to condition mine 😂 extra luxurious!

Maidsrus · 01/09/2018 21:50

I used to feel quite prudish about the pressure to go hairless, thinking it was about porn, hating the “peer pressure”. But since getting divorced, being single (and hairy) for 5 years, then meeting a fella ( now boyfriend) who preferred hair free but didn’t put pressure on me...

...I prefer hair off. I don’t feel like a girl. I just enjoy the clean feeling and the extra sensitivity. I don’t wax I shave. If I don’t get chance to shave he doesn’t mind. He shaves too. I prefer him cleanly shaven and less so when he gets a bit stubbly!

I find this program quite weird, but enjoy having the chance to compare female bits! I’ve never seen them in so much detail before!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/09/2018 21:54

I'm too old to have been a hair remover, except for the occasional experimentation. I was aware that it was more or less the norm for the generation below me, but I wondered if hair was coming back as there was a lot of nudity on a Netflix show that I watched and they all had pubic hair, bikini trimmed and shortish but otherwise full ie not a landing strip. I preferred the look, not that it's any of my business how other women wear their pubic hair.

Maidsrus · 01/09/2018 21:55

I do agree though that pubes protect us from infection,as I get them more often since shaving. But nothing too serious

Everyoneiswingingit · 01/09/2018 22:02

Stubbly bits? No thanks. But each to their own. Would be good to see a few more natural girls though so that these young men don't find it so disgusting and shocking and my DD don't feel they have to go bald to please a man in 21st Century!

fattyboomboomboom · 01/09/2018 22:08

JAPAB - that made me laugh, but a fluffer would actually be in keeping with the spirit of the show.

JAPAB · 02/09/2018 06:54

Maybe in the 70s people didn't know what they were missing. Probably wasn't that much oppertunity to see anything other than su naturel. Now more people know what they were missing? :)

CurlyhairedAssassin · 02/09/2018 09:32

“People know what they were missing?” Hmm

CurlyhairedAssassin · 02/09/2018 09:38

This attitude that pubes are somehow dirty is a bit odd, and what is odder is how it’s now spreading to men, which doesn’t alwaus happen with trends in body care

I think if a man stripped off in front of me with no pubes that i would be like this: Shock

I’m not a fan of men waxing their chests or getting rid of underarm hair as more and more people seem to describe happens these days. It’s a huge turn off to me for a man to be so obsessed with his body, in the same way that it would turn me off to see a man looking in a mirror flexing his muscles and checking himself out.

Yes, keep yourself clean and fit and healthy but god, the obsession to look like the latest “standard” (I nearly put the word BREED in front of that) turns me right off.

annandale · 02/09/2018 09:42

I can pretty much guarantee that I wouldn't notice what a man had done with his pubes. XH liked to shave it all off and would pose unappealingly and ask if I could see anything different and I was always like 'erm, are you erm wearing new aftershave?' Very disappointing for him. DH claimed to like the natural look on me all over (too many French films as a teenager) which I actually found a bit difficult at times too. So many ways to disappoint your partner.

iamawoman · 02/09/2018 09:42

Well if you want to subject yourself to pain / discomfort on a regular basis, increase risk of infections and pander to the male ideal it's a bodily choice, but not something I feel is in women's best interests on the whole, a bit like fake boobs - who are they really for

Furrycushion · 02/09/2018 10:04

Your pubes will all vanish when you get old anyway! I was amazed to discover this a couple of years ago. Mine are migrating to my chin.
