Lidl bellarom chocolate always used to be amazing so i hope not.
Iceland dont use palm oil in anything and they do their own chocolate so worth a try. I know their plain mint chocolate is good but havent tried their milk chocolate. I think marks and spencers might still be ok.

SoftSheen · 17/08/2018 21:32

Montezuma and Madecasse are both good (though a bit expensive), and Waitrose 1 chocolate is pretty good. Divine is not bad, and somewhat cheaper.

Cadbury's no longer qualifies as chocolate IMO...

SoftSheen · 17/08/2018 21:32

^^And yes, M&S chocolate is still nice.

OliviaBonas · 17/08/2018 21:33

Even I’ve stopped eating chocolate! M&S is the nicest I can find now.

IJustHadToNameChange · 17/08/2018 21:34

Palm oil and shea butter. 😢

user764329056 · 17/08/2018 21:38

Palm oil destroying fire station and having catastrophic effect on wildlife, evil stuff

SleepingBooty · 17/08/2018 21:39

Cadbury was always my favourite, I can't touch it now. Lindt is still nice though and I like Aldi and Lidl chocolate.

PodgeBod · 17/08/2018 21:39

Mallowmarshmallow I've just checked the cheap Aldi dairyfine milk chocolate I have and it has "palm fat" which I would guess is the same as palm oil but not sure about their nicer chocolate ranges.

donetodeath · 17/08/2018 21:39

The m&s Swiss fruit and nut is unfortunately very deliciousAngry
From very recent experience the hotel chocolat Florentines are yummy and am currently wishing we bought more as we don’t have a shop nearby

StealthPolarBear · 17/08/2018 21:39

The divine dark chocolate with caramel is amazing and when I discovered they did a milk bar I was so pleased as that's my favourite. It was surprisingly tasteless, so disappointing.
I do love godiva chocolate.
Can also cope with Cadbury and coop own brand.

Believeitornot · 17/08/2018 21:44

It's modern capitalism. The point of any activity is to maximise profit rather than actually provide the thing. The thing being bought/sold is less important than the amount of money being made. You can best maximise money made by making a terrible cheap product and selling into the mass market

^this

It’s all about making money.

Gncq · 17/08/2018 21:44

What about "Milka" in the light purple Wrapping?

I can't eat English chocolate now, I first noticed this Easter, we had a family tradition involving Cadbury's cream eggs. They are now so revolting we don't eat them anymore. Sad.

I feel like trying a Milka bar tomorrow just to check.

True capitalism is about making a product that is better than your competitors.

FaithEverPresent · 17/08/2018 21:48

The worst thing is the greasy feeling on your lips. Bleurgh!

I am enjoying a bar of Co-op dark chocolate with raspberries. No palm oil. It’s quite rich but that means I’m not eating it too fast!

Gncq · 17/08/2018 21:53

True capitalism is about making a product that is better than your competitors No it isn't, it's about making as much money as possible.

Septima · 17/08/2018 21:58

Minimising outgoings - staff and ingredient costs - and maximising profit is all companies care about now.

It’s ironic, because brands first started out due to the Victorians adulterating foods so much and people wanted foods they could trust.

Once trusted brands start messing you around, then it’s game over. That’s where capitalism has got us.

ABitCrapper · 17/08/2018 22:04

Sainsbury's finest Belgium chocolate is still bloody lovely. And Montezuma

jaimebravo · 17/08/2018 22:52

Cadburys chocolate is horrible now as is Galaxy.
One of the descendants of the Cadburys chocolate founders now has his own chocolate company. I received some as a gift and it tastes like heaven, definitely the best chocolate I have ever had. It is expensive but worth it for a special treat, it's called love cocoa, online only I think.
Failing that, Ritter chocolate is lovely and reasonably priced.

inquiquotiokixul · 17/08/2018 23:14

No that's naïve productionism. Betamax was a better video tape recording system than vhs but vhs had better marketing. Every year, books written with the most minimal of plot and characterisation massively outsell books by talented writers because getting picked for a slot on breakfast TV (which is about who you know and how good your publicist is) is what gets you noticed. I could give you dozens of examples where the cheap and poor quality but well-marketed version massively outsells the good quality version across every industry. It's not just chocolate.

Katedotness1963 · 17/08/2018 23:18

Not Galaxy too?!? There is no British chocolate worth eating anymore. When we were in Germany I had a love for Milka caramel bars. In America now, I guess that’s me off chocolate...

Fatbelliedgirl · 17/08/2018 23:21

Cadburys Freddos (child size bars) are still made to the original recipe! I can confirm this as I binged had some the other day. Go buy some before it's no longer relatively unknown!

Fatbelliedgirl · 17/08/2018 23:22

Aldi Moser Roth is divine.

BepBopBap · 17/08/2018 23:24

We do not eat much chocolate anymore, it's so piss poor now.

Cocoa powder, butter, Sainsbury's dark chocolate, sugar, eggs and flour makes loads of delicious brownies that stay fresh for days.

We use the Borneville recipe.

IJustHadToNameChange · 18/08/2018 00:26

@Fatbelliedgirl,
Tesco says you're lying 😱

IJustHadToNameChange · 18/08/2018 00:27

Mondelèz are cunts. 😢
