I also second (third) Whittaker’s chocolate. They’ve got some really crazy flavors as well as their more traditional chocolates which makes exploring —engorging on— new flavors really fun.

They aren’t available in the UK? If you can grab some online, would be nice to have a stash, although people like me cannot be trusted with a stash......

Otherwise, chocolate from Lidl and Aldi are very good, and economical too. I forget what it’s called, but I always liked that brand with the little squares so you could just grab a few without have to crack apart an actual chocolate bar.

Galvantula · 18/08/2018 10:35

I'm a rather disappointed Coco Pops addict. They do taste bland now. Blush

I also get my chocolate mostly from Aldi or the odd Divine bar.

Galvantula · 18/08/2018 10:51

Yes it's the Aldi Moser Roth stuff I get as a pp said.

Frankwindsor · 18/08/2018 11:09

Just made my first order at love cocoa. V excited. :)

SergeantPfeffer · 18/08/2018 11:29

Nom nom is made in Wales and they do awesome salted caramel bars. Not cheap though

It's such a shame, I used to love cadbury and galaxy etc, I don't want posh or dark stuff, eg I hate Montezuma. And boycott nestle.

I had a toblerone the other day which was nice. And the Cadbury grandson stuff is GORGEOUS.

TheSassyAssassin · 18/08/2018 11:46

Had some Green & Blacks Maya Gold last night which wasn't bad and doesn't have palm oil in it, but tend to avoid milk choc anymore largely because it's bloody awful these days...but off to google Love Cocoa with interest! Smile

ignatiusjreilly · 18/08/2018 11:47

Lindt Excellence Milk Chocolate is soooo nice. Some people might find it too sweet but it is just so creamy.

I also like Tesco Finest dark chocolate with orange and almonds.

Has anyone tried a Kit Kat lately? Are they still the same?

MayFayner · 18/08/2018 11:51

We still have the old Cadbury’s chocolate here in Ireland- only for the things that are actually made here though.

Freddos, giant buttons and twirls (I think) are all ok. I don’t risk anything else because it’s not worth it Envy Envy < not envy

MayFayner · 18/08/2018 11:59

Sorry, I have just seen Freddo debate upthread. I can only vouch for Irish freddos, but they are categorically not made of the brown wax that now passes for the majority of Cadbury’s chocolate products. They might have a bit of palm oil in them, (wasn’t “vegetable fat” always an ingredient?) but the quantity is obviously crucial.

I bought a bag of giant buttons yesterday, supposedly to dole out singly to DC3 as potty rewards, but unfortunately (for him) I gave him one and then inhaled the rest over a two hour period 🐷

dangerrabbit · 18/08/2018 12:08

Tesco own brand rainforest certified chocolate mentioned by a pp contains cocoa butter and also Asda smart price chocolate which is only 30p for 100g.

New Zealand Cadbury’s used to contain palm oil until there was an outcry against it and the company backed down. Maybe we should do something similar here?

I'm a bit of a chocolate snob these days I'm afraid. I always look at the ingredients before the price - if there's palm oil, shea butter, any of the other hideous vegetable oils in it, or less than 35% cocoa solids (for a milk chocolate) I just don't buy it. Morrisons do a decent & very affordable milk chocolate in their "The Best" range here. I've tried a couple of others from the range & they were quite good too.

I'm not keen on Aldi Moser Roth - I really wanted to like it, the ingredients looked fine, but it's just not melty. Something is missing from the taste, too.

I don't do Nestle. At all.

My absolute favourite is Valrhona - I particularly like Caraibe for a slightly dark, & Jivara for a milk chocolate. Pricey though.

I’m actually terrified they’ll discontinue the mint chocolate crisp bar. I actually keep a stockpile in the freezer as it’s sometimes a bit hard to find. They discontinued those big bars, now it’s just those regular-sized mint crisps that are made domestically.

ILoveCwtches · 18/08/2018 13:02

I've just spent £20 on lovecocoa, thanks to this thread! I have been scanning ingredients lately, to try to avoid Palm Oil etc, as not much in the way of chocolate has hit the spot, for ages!

I'm holding out great hopes Smile

madmomma · 18/08/2018 13:46

I still enjoy Toblerone but that's all for chocolate now, and I used to eat loads of the stuff. So gutted. Nothing tastes right anymore.

VoteHillary · 18/08/2018 13:55

What is everyone winning on the Love Cocoa roulette wheel? Just got £5 off and am tempted! Grin

TheSassyAssassin · 18/08/2018 13:58

Ooh better than me Hillary, I got 10% off! Hmm Their Saturday sales are gonna be up by 250% at this rate!

WhatsYourFuckingProblem · 18/08/2018 14:00

I don’t have any money until Friday but when that day hits- they’d better get those packing boxes ready at Love Cocoa Grin

PerverseConverse · 18/08/2018 14:01

I've just ordered for the first time from Love Cocoa. There was a spin the wheel discount code so got 10% off too. 8 bars for £20 delivered. I've completely gone off all my usual favourites. I used to eat a big bag of giant buttons a day and now don't like them. Used to love Creme Eggs, mini eggs etc. Now I don't like them much at all.

Mumshotel · 18/08/2018 14:01

It's palm oil. It's a travesty and I'm not happy about it. Bring back old school cadburys and galaxy. It's just not right.

Branleuse · 18/08/2018 14:10

What ingredient are they replacing with palm oil

TerfAndSerf · 18/08/2018 14:31

Palm oil is a solid at room temperature and replaces the more expensive cocoa butter.

Due to climate change, the cocoa harvest is reducing, cocoa is getting more and more expensive as a result and manufacturers are looking for ways of reducing costs.

olderthanyouthink · 18/08/2018 14:32

Grin at the surge in traffic Mr Love Cocoa is going to see. Hopefully they have google analytics so they'll see and come say hi and offer a discount

PerverseConverse · 18/08/2018 14:37

@olderthanyouthink I've just emailed them to tell them about this thread so they can see how passionate we all are about good quality brutish chocolate and how we all seem to agree that what has happened to Cadbury is dreadful. I really hope the new company does great and that the chocolate is as yummy as I hope it is. I love a company that has ethics and principles. It's fair trade, the prices are reasonable and ingredients listed superior. Can't wait to try some!

Fatbelliedgirl · 18/08/2018 14:41

Well I'm going to Tesco Express to get more Freddos before they sell out Grin
