Oh, sigh. and that one was beautiful, Spiro.

Won't your DVD player play CDs, Maud?

OP posts:
ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 28/08/2011 23:57

Massive's vid reminded me of Spiro's shopping list - all peaches nectarines and Twiglets! Some lovely shots of Mr Thornton's in Spiro's vid. I know some people find it too frantic, but .

SupermassiveLBD · 29/08/2011 00:04

Ah, Lucas North, don't we miss him? I am having to play all these vids without sound, I keep forgettng to buy new earphones.

DumSpiroSpero · 29/08/2011 00:05

I think that's the first time I've managed to watch that one all the way through, Maud. It's superbly done, but not something I could watch repeatedly - even though it has some of my favourites in it Grin!

SupermassiveLBD · 29/08/2011 00:17

Help, is that the time? I have to bid you goodnight, ladies. I have to try to get up early tomorrow morning Sad

Seeet dReAms, everyone!

I understand why you might not want to watch that too often or too closely, Spiro. The jail suicide scenes are still shocking.

There were times earlier when I wondered whether Page Eight [play about truth, diplomacy and MI5 by David Hare] was filmed on the Spooks set. Have we heard whether Spooks will be returning in the autumn? This was adjacent to an interview with David Hare in the Radio Times but those of a nervous disposition should look away now.

Meanwhile, .

SupermassiveLBD · 29/08/2011 00:31

That chap has a bit of an agenda, I believe, Maud. Something weird going on there, anyway.

OP posts:
DumSpiroSpero · 29/08/2011 00:32

Spooks is coming back for Series 10 - not sure exactly when, and then no more will be made.

That review was pretty harsh, but I don't entirely disagree with it tbh. I think it's daft to compare Lucas/RA with Ros/HN though in the role of Section head. Presumably when they wrote HN's character in that role they weren't gearing up for a slow burn towards a weird and wonderful exit which would have made a difference to way the character and storyline's developed. They had a different team of writers for S9, not a change for the better imho, and I can't dispute a single word of that write-up as far as Maya's character and the total lack of chemistry between them goes.

I think you have to take into account the nature of a programme like that when writing about the characters though. Lucas is a spy - it's his job to be covert and secretive, and he's lost eight years of his life in a Russian prison so you can't possible him expect to have the same depth as a character with more history, openness and personal background.

That was why JP was my favourite and I was so gutted about SB last week. On the surface he was the govt/military hero, but he had enough personal background going on to be 'real' and well-rounded. Obviously they had to write him out but I think a character with that much potential really deserved a more sensitive and meaningful send off than a bullet to the back of the head and replacement by a sex crazed nutter.

DumSpiroSpero · 29/08/2011 00:33

When I said 'weird and wonderful' in the above, of course I meant

weird and 'wonderful' Hmm Angry

DumSpiroSpero · 29/08/2011 10:08

Aaaargh! Have just got on the scales to assess the damage caused by 6 weeks at home and am having a conniption!

I would ask someone to summon a doctor, but I fear he'd need a crane rather than a helicopter Blush.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 29/08/2011 10:19

::bleary eyed::

If you can't summon a doctor, perhaps you just need to confide in a trusted friend?

I've just been reading about Glen Campbell's farewell tour and .

Mr & Miss S have gone swimming and I have finally got round to watching Wednesday night's YouTube offerings. Both very yummy (although could have done with a bit more Lucas and a bit less Adam Carter in the 'Achilles Heel' one obviously Grin)

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 29/08/2011 13:10

Achilles Heel?

::Wednesday was a long time ago emoticon::

SupermassiveLBD · 29/08/2011 13:41

Ah, the Wichita Lineman. One of my all-time favourites.

I am just taking a break from my chores. The Muse CD was just the right length to get me through cleaning the hall and living room, and hanging up a load of washing. That guitar riff in Supermassive Black Hole is ideal for getting the vacuum cleaner into fiddly corners.

Loads more to do. I am wondering what to play next.

I grok the kecks Smile

Where do I get what from, Maude? Confused

Great stuff, your men, agreed. Not too sure about pink trousers, mind. Grin

::Realises that she is probably the only person in the world who hasn't heard of Yngwie, who no doubt isn't obscure at all::

Oooh, I like a bit of glam and bling. Look at Thingummy from Muse in his sequined suit.

::Hopes Small is watching::

SupermassiveLBD · 29/08/2011 14:09

About that article Maud referenced last night - I have to confess I thought it was another, earlier, one that also rubbished him - and I think by the same guy. So I didn't read on.

What Spiro said made a great deal of sense.

OP posts:
DumSpiroSpero · 29/08/2011 14:16

Clearly the writer is a jealous plonker then, yes? Grin

SupermassiveLBD · 29/08/2011 14:16

I forget who introduced me to Yngwie. Some CDs left here by some member of the MrM clan, I think. He is something of a classic among heavy metal aficionados.

Muse are tad lightweight, in comparison, and that touch pad thingie he's got on his guitar is a cheat. And their lyrics need a bit of an edit now and then to make them make sense. And their sparkly tousers, well...

But I love them all the same,
