Poor you, Spiro. Can't you apply a little emotional blackmail engage her sympathies and tell her mummies need help sometimes, too?
How about some bribe system for getting to entertain herself quietly in her own bed, for short times to begin with ? All this is a bit unfair on you. sez she who could never even go for a wee in peace for years

DumSpiroSpero · 18/08/2011 12:01

She's lovely but can be very demanding and clingy at times, and to be fair I probably need more space than the average person (hence me only having 1 Grin).

I need to get her a decent clock for her room for a start. But she's getting pocket money from next month and wants to save for a DS. I have told her that staying in her own bed and not getting me up before 6.30 in the week and 7.30 at weekends is going to be one of the conditions.

She has a CD player, toys and loads of books (she's a very advanced reader) in her room, so there's no excuse really.

The upside is I don't tend to have any problems with getting her settled of an evening, which I would find even more trying.

SupermassiveLBD · 18/08/2011 13:34

I saw some lovely (imported) children's clocks the other day. No annoying ticking, and lovely clear faces for learners, with lots of fascinating detail for hours of amusement Not a great deal of choice though - either pink and sparkly, or a blue space rocket theme. but plenty to look at as you lie there in your own bed like a big grown-up girl Grin

SupermassiveLBD · 18/08/2011 14:04

OMG! Spooky! Don't forget to check out the comments, too, even though this is the DM! Smile

PassTheTwiglets · 18/08/2011 16:23

Hi guys! Many thanks to Spiro for telling me how to you all again, after I did a Small and accidentally hid the thread and couldn't get it back, GAH!
Spiro, sorry I didn't hang around last night - had to wait up for my pressie but couldn't stay much longer! It was so funny - I was reaing in bed, with DrT reding beside me - I got as far as the first paragraph and had to go to the loo to finish reading, for fear of having to explain away my girlish giggles :o I loved how it was exactly what we did yesterday - well, all apart from the last bit, sadly :) Am I looking for connections where there aren't any or was there a relevance to his twin brother, the park warden? Was that a reference to an earlier story? (sorry, brain has turned to mush and can't remember anything!) I loved the misspent youth/misspent afternoon line :) Goodness though, how do you write things so quickly? You must be a natural and I'm not, I guess. It just takes me FOREVER.

Massive, what are we OMGing about? The Thornton similarity? Can't read the comments at the moment, it says they're currently unavailable. I saw The Woman In Black at the theatre a few times and it was flipping terrifying!

DumSpiroSpero · 18/08/2011 16:31

No worries, Twigs. I have just LOL at you dashing off to the loo so Dr T didn't catch on to any of the references to previous mischief!

The twin brother hasn't cropped up before (but he may do at some point in the future...Wink). He was going to be 'just' a brother but it was too good an opportunity to miss!

As for writing it quickly - I knew there wasn't much point if I didn't post it last night. I was mentally 'writing' it in the shower after I put Miss S to bed and put shampoo on my shower puff instead of body wash - oops! Blush

Massive those links are scrummy. Haven't had a chance for a proper read/look, but am already considering a trip back to the toyboy thread (although tbh I've always had a slight preference for Rupert Grint - perhaps I'll add both). Hmm Grin

DumSpiroSpero · 18/08/2011 16:33

Weirdly, I'm going to see the Woman in White next month.

SupermassiveLBD · 18/08/2011 16:41

quick comment as i should be in the kitchen -- the comments were saying the pics looked like something out of N&S and how DR looked ike a little RA. someone else adding that RA was much nicer Smile

Back properly as soon as.

DumSpiroSpero · 18/08/2011 17:08

Just watched the clip and the first time you see him, almost from the back with him turning towards the camera the resemblance is uncanny. He even gets a little 'look back at me' moment at the end Grin.

Looks like a good film, but why oh why, do they have to have a vomit inducing, saccharine voiced American kid doing the voiceover when the bloody thing is set in England?

Call me pedantic but...Angry

SupermassiveLBD · 18/08/2011 17:34

Back, if only for a mo. The costume looks a blatant steal, as far as I could see from the quick glance. it's almost as if they've thought 'Now, this kind of thing went down well with the ladies, last time'

Why do they have to get a boy to do a man's job? Angry

Maud will have a conniption fit and send a stern note to the people involved. or arrive on their doorsep with a brick in her reticule

SupermassiveLBD · 18/08/2011 17:38

I forgot to say, i agree with Twigs about how clever Spiro is to write something so good, so quickly. As someone who has just spent a whole morning on one short, very short, paragraph I am Envy with envy -- and full of admiration of course.

It couldn't happen to a nicer academician, mind you. Smile

SupermassiveLBD · 18/08/2011 17:42

Back to WIW, wouldn't it feel a wee bit pervy to be thudding over Harry Potter? Grin

Right,I shall finally shut up now

DumSpiroSpero · 18/08/2011 17:44

You're both being very lovely and very daft - it wasn't exactly 'War & Peace'!

I love the word conniption btw!!! Your use of it is the first time I've come across it outside of Disney Channel! Will have to add it to my list of new favourite words, along with 'jonesing' (which I probably like so much because it sounds ever-so-slightly rude!)

Have any of you seen the favourite French words thread - it's hilarious. Also the 'Morish Foods' thread where two posters are battling it out over who is the greater lover of Twiglets!!! [grin}

PassTheTwiglets · 18/08/2011 17:46

Goodness, I had so many typos in that last post that I wonder anybody made sense of it. But when I said that I was reading with DH reading beside me - I meant that he was reading something else, not your story, Spiro! I wouldn't share that :) I just thought that I might start squealing/giggling and he'd ask what I was reading.

Massive, I can beat that - I spent an entire evening on ONE SENTENCE.

PassTheTwiglets · 18/08/2011 17:51

I think I subconciously fuss over every little word to stop me getting on with the actual writing part (which scares me).

LOL at Twiglets - I should go on there and say "oh, I loathe Twiglets..." and have everyone wonder why I have this name :)

What does Jonesing mean?! I am ancient :( My fave teenagery word is saying that you are "ceebers" when you don't want to do something. It morphed from saying "CBA" (Can't Be Arsed). viz. "Do you want to go out tonight?" "Nah, I'm ceebers". :)

DumSpiroSpero · 18/08/2011 18:43

jonesing - to have a strong need, desire, or craving for something.

In context: "I'm jonesing for some decent John Porter fanfic!" Grin

SupermassiveLBD · 18/08/2011 19:21

Not War and Peace , maybe, but an easy flow with natural dialogue and characteristion and an amusing plot is not as easy to achieve as it looks. As Twigs and I know to our cost. Confused

I always think of conniption fits as a bit southern fried and down home among the hominy grits and collard greens - whatever they are. I am loving ceebers. I can imagine PLFWs saying something like that
"Robin, meet me in the Greenwood tonight for a nice moonlight stroll?'
"Nah, I'm ceebers"

PassTheTwiglets · 18/08/2011 19:41

Where does jonesing come from, do you know? And LOL at decent Porter fanfic :o

How funny, I awlays thought of conniption as being an old-fashioned posh English phrase, something that Lady Bracknell might have!

LOL at the PLFW's use of ceebers! Speaking of which, DD and I are doing Hood O'Clock again! spending time with DD in a way which interests me, for once :) OH there was an adorable bit in the one I watched today - something like "I wish you could let me show you the side of me that wants to build a home, not burn it down".... awwwww.

SupermassiveLBD · 18/08/2011 19:51

Maybe you are right about conniption, Twigs, I never checked.

Gizzy sure is adorable when he lets his inner Lost Boy peek out. sigh. He just wants to be luurved, you know, that's all it is.

SupermassiveLBD · 18/08/2011 19:57

Jonesing:

According to Goggle and an article in The New York Times March 17, 2002. "The slang termj......... is said to have originated among addicts who lived in Great Jones Alley, off Great Jones Street, between Broadway and Lafayette Street

SupermassiveLBD · 18/08/2011 19:58

or even google. sigh. Sorry, all, my fingers are tired with veg. peeling.

DumSpiroSpero · 18/08/2011 20:11

Twigs, which RH episode was that quote in? I read it in the article I posted a link to last night and thought I really must watch that.

Also, Massive can you tell me which episodes are the casino & the one where he finds out about his son?

Pretend to be bothered about the storyline? Nah, I'm ceebers and jonesing for some serious black leather action before I have a conniption! Grin

Off to shovel Miss S into bed and watch Torchwood. BBL.

PassTheTwiglets · 18/08/2011 20:36

Massive, I'm sure you're right - I merely imagine it as that sort of word, I have absolutely no evidence for it however!

How funny about the quote coincidence Spiro. I haven't looked at any of the links from yesterday yet. It was from Series 2 - not sure of ep. number but title was "Get Carter".

We stuck with Torchwood in the end and it has got much better. Verging on too distressing for me though! But , you are watching that tonight instead of Big Brother?! Shock :)

SupermassiveLBD · 18/08/2011 20:38

Black leather? I can do that, Lady Spiro

I'd certainly rather paint your toe-nails than his, dressed in my black leather but as this is the episode where I was very wicked indeed to my only son, you might tie me to a tree instead. RH 1.4

Faites vos jeux, ladies, in the Vaisey's Palace Casino. Winner takes... me RH 2.2

SupermassiveLBD · 18/08/2011 20:40

or even emoticon . Expect wall to wall typos, tonite. sigh
