I don’t get overwhelmed with life!? AMA…

I have name changed for this. But I read a lot on here about lots of people being overwhelmed with life (which I’m not disputing that they do feel that way) and its demands in general. I just don’t feel this, I never really have tbh. Don’t know why this is so thought I’d do an AMA to see if there’s something about me that lends to this? Don’t know if that makes sense but anyway. So here I am AMA…

When you say you’ve had struggles, what made them struggles if you didn’t struggle with them? I feel like perhaps you see your own struggles as reactions to unusual events whereas you see other people’s as ‘getting overwhelmed with life’ more generally. I don’t know if you’re that different to most people, can you explain more how you react to difficult things like your child being ill and how you think this is different from
how most people react?

What is your household income?
What percentage of your household income goes on mortgage, utilities and other essential costs?
Do you employ any help (eg: cleaner, gardener, nanny)?
How old are your DC, does their school have wraparound care?
How do you and DP cover school holidays and INSET days? How about if the kids are unwell?

Edited

I answered household income above. No, I do not have any cleaner or nanny or hired help for anything. They are 10 and 13 and yes, the School has an Afterschool wrap around care.

We have some Flexi time and work from home when we want to in the summer to cover days and then we just take time off separately and time off together. The DC also go to sports clubs. The summer is a bit of a juggle.

household income is approximately 130k combined. They went to afterschool when they were younger and myself in DP would take turns and dropping them. That one’s older, she walks home.
we live in semi detached for bed with an Office.
The usual kitchen diner sunroom and a sitting room.
DP works the same hours as me.
Whenever one of the kids are sick, we got a phone call and whoever is the most available we will go and collect them and work from home (very lucky with that I know)

I don't think your lack of overwhelm is a mystery tbh

Ahh, so the secret to not getting overwhelmed with life is having £130k household income

Thanks for the tip!

How on earth is 8-4:30 'unbelievably easy?' Is that not pretty much a bog standard day for many?! 9-5:30 equivalent?

SunBox · Today 12:54

Oh you are funny OP! 🤣🤣

Well played though.

username68 · Today 12:54

Mulledjuice · Today 12:52

thanks - and what happens if you and DH both need to go out in the evening or at a weekend?

God, we’re not really going out type 🤣🤣 but if we have a wedding or something then my parents would help out. That is very rare of these days. We mostly like a night in.

Well, I don’t feel relatively young, but thank you for that 😅 yes I do have a partner and yes, I still have my parents which is great and they are still in good enough health. They also both work. I would say I have very average working hours I wouldn’t call them easy…

Average working hours? What planet are you on? Dd1 is doing bar work around uni which finishes 3.30am, oh is working on a site with 14 thousand men, they’re up at 4am, hour bus to site to start 6am, 12 hour shift then home at 7pm. He works 13 days out of 14. I’m an agency carer starting at 7-8.30am and finishing between 7-11pm. The nature of my calls mean I could technically do a 12 hour day and only get paid for 6 due to travel etc. These are all completely normal jobs. I’d literally consider giving my right arm to find a job that starts and ends during schools hours wraparound hours and every single weekend off!!

I would have thought this fairly standard too tbh

Average 9-5 hours yes. I’m very aware lots of people have longer hours. Bothe my parents worked shift patterns. I have worked in bars/restaurants throughout university. I know what longer unsociable hours are and look like.

You should have just started off with the 130 grand, two parent household, reliable childcare and sociable workings hours. Now I don't need to ask you anything at all.

So why did you start this thread?

Datingwoess · Today 13:00

What’s your personality type, do you know? I’m intrigued.

What kind of role are you in, sales, admin etc? Are you able to stick to your contractual hours?

I don’t think I’m ignorant at all tbh. I’m very aware lots of people don’t have the same but I’m not talking about extreme situations I’m talking about daily grind here. The family life daily craziness that people say overwhelms them.

OP posts:
Girlintheframe · Today 13:00

I would love to be like you! My DH doesn’t get overwhelmed easily. Very calm, very pragmatic and not overly emotional. I on the other hand think about feelings a lot. Do you think that’s the difference?

MrsPapillon · Today 13:01

username68 · Today 12:38

that’s not my intention, but I can see why you would say that. I think it would be worse if I said hey look at me I don’t get overwhelmed. What about you? I know lots of people get overwhelmed. I’m very aware of that. I’m surrounded by people that get overwhelmed. But I don’t get overwhelmed so I thought an AMA might get the bottom of why I don’t get overwhelmed because I don’t know why.

Maybe you don’t get overwhelmed because you’ve had a nice easy life? Maybe if you’d suffered abuse, or extreme poverty or life-threatening illness etc you wouldn’t be so sanctimonious.

I don’t want to say my role exactly but let’s say it’s like a regulatory role. I can log of at 4:30 yes, but I can also have to log on after hours at certain times.

Well, that's probably it! You haven't really dealt with any real monetary problems in your life.

I have suffered abuse at the hands of an ex yes…I don’t let that define me. I have already stated I have health issues…and while these are not life threatening they could be if not looked after tbh.
