For clarification I was married to a traveller and had 3 children. So I did go down the traditional route but he was very abusive and a narcissist and I’m now dealing with the aftermath of trauma and years of abuse. But that’s another matter, I wanted to start a thread because I know people would be curious about a gypsy marrying outside her culture.

Do you have any examples? Ive only known irish travellers.

Just discovered this thread, super interested too. If you were to have children with your non-traveller husband, how would the community see that? How do you think they would identify? If someone wanted to raise their children with a better awareness and sensitivity to travellers etc, how could they do that? (It feels a bit closed off, but maybe thats because I don't know anyone personally?)

I've worked in projects adjacent to Traveller women and one thing I've wondered about is when a couple "ran away". What does this mean exactly and is it not considered wrong? Why would they need to "run away"?

This really surprises me, as local ones put everything on YouTube/Facebook and the language is absolutely filthy, even the young children. Men talking about their wives or DIL's "busted gowl" and other very repulsive language. Some of them are well known Traveller 'Kings', they certainly aren't wannabes.
