Hello, I'm a TRA - ask me anything

Good evening,

I'm a transgender rights advocate. I say "advocate" rather than "activist" because I believe in constructive debate and consensus building rather than the hostile, shouty kind of activism that gets us nowhere.

I am here because I am genuinely interested in seeing if there is some kind of compromise that can be reached between pro trans and gender critical views. Obviously this is difficult because we may disagree about something pretty fundamental. I feel passionately that trans women are women (at least in the psychological and social sense), so there's an obvious divide if you do not.

The question is, can we find ways to co-exist and find an acceptable way forward on some of the difficult issues that arise around trans acceptance? So I'm happy to have a go answering anything you care to ask in good faith. Who knows, we might even make some progress.

What is the psychological and social part of being a woman?

Soubriquet · 14/10/2023 22:27

Nope. I believe women’s spaces should be exclusive to women. Born women, not “I feel like a woman today” woman

nauticant · 14/10/2023 22:28

If a male-bodied convicted rapist requests to be transferred from a men's prison to a women's prison, should their request be granted?

If your answer is "yes", what's your reasoning?

ChristmasKraken · 14/10/2023 22:29

What is it that transwomen have in common with women that makes them different to men?

nauticant · 14/10/2023 22:29

Do you think that puberty blockers are reversible?

Hermittrismegistus · 14/10/2023 22:29

What's your definition of 'woman'?

StarlightLime · 14/10/2023 22:29

VeryUninspired · 14/10/2023 22:26

What is the psychological and social part of being a woman?

Yes, I feel this should be clarified from the get go.

Lottapianos · 14/10/2023 22:30

'What is the psychological and social part of being a woman?'

Also waiting for an answer to this

Boomboom22 · 14/10/2023 22:30

Do you understand why gc people who don't believe in gender stereotypes find the whole concept regressive? Not so bad when it was clearly accepted as a serious mental health condition but the claims it's not medical also don't match the suicide threats.
Are you not concerned about the high number of detransitioners or even just side effects of medical treatments?
Do you understand why penises can never be in women's toilets sports and Prisons? And for sports and Prisons even post op not fair?

SirChenjins · 14/10/2023 22:30

Can a white person be black if they feel they are in the psychological and social sense? What would those psychological and social senses be?

kopitiamgal · 14/10/2023 22:32

VeryUninspired · 14/10/2023 22:26

What is the psychological and social part of being a woman?

The million dollar question.

If trans people are not biologically women. How do they know what is; like to be a woman 'socially and psychologically'.

nauticant · 14/10/2023 22:32

Do you think that young trans people detransition? Do you think that like the trans activists say it's very rare or that it's relatively common?

DreamItDoIt · 14/10/2023 22:32

I'd love to to know what 'living as a woman' is and how does/can a biological male know what this is. Thanks

Majbluemug · 14/10/2023 22:32

Do you know there's load of women who use MN who are not in the trans discussion boards and are here for the other chat.

I absolutely don't fuck with the gender discussion! All the people here aren't the same, but I feel like people outside think all users are gc

Circumferences · 14/10/2023 22:32

What do you think about violence committed by TRA against women, or all the rape threats and death threats made by TRA?

AlphaTransWoman · 14/10/2023 22:32

Soubriquet · 14/10/2023 22:27

Nope. I believe women’s spaces should be exclusive to women. Born women, not “I feel like a woman today” woman

OK, but how would you feel about third spaces for transgender women? Or a choice between gender specific and gender neutral facilities (eg toilets)?

What is the psychological and social part of being a woman?

answer this one please

what are the psychological and social characteristics of women, as opposed to those of men?

NashvilleQueen · 14/10/2023 22:33

Do you believe that a man or a woman can change their biological sex? If so on what scientific evidence is there to support that contention?

exwhyzed · 14/10/2023 22:33

Do you think third spaces when it comes to prisons/ refuges/ hospital wards/ toilets is an adequate compromise?

Do you feel the right to social validation for trans people to access the facikities of the sex they identify in, outweighs the right of natal women and girls to dignity, privacy and safety in those sane facilities?

What do trans rights advocates propose is a good way to determine who are genuine trans people and who are bad men using false trans identities to access the facilities intended for women and children?

nauticant · 14/10/2023 22:34

How many young trans people who spent their teenage years on puberty blockers are able to have an orgasm after a complete genital reassignment surgery?

B12B12 · 14/10/2023 22:34

Thinking of transwomen - natal men.

How do you differentiate between a genuine trans person who has say suffered from gender dysphoria since childhood and autogynephiles (men who get sexual satisfaction from dressing as women but are unlikely to have genital surgery).

Do you think gender dysphoria is a mental illness?

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 14/10/2023 22:34

What is the psychological and social part of being a woman?

Yes, this. Given that all women are individuals with different personalities, psychological traits and social behaviours, how can you define what constitutes being psychologically and socially a woman? What psychological or social traits do you think are true of all women and not true of any men?

EtiennePalmiere · 14/10/2023 22:35

AlphaTransWoman · 14/10/2023 22:32

OK, but how would you feel about third spaces for transgender women? Or a choice between gender specific and gender neutral facilities (eg toilets)?

You know very well that biological men will still use the women's facilities because they want to feel validated, or enjoy the transgression (no pun intended)

countrypunk · 14/10/2023 22:36

What kind of compromise do you think there can be when 'GC' women believe trans women are men and people like you believe trans women are literally women? Please be specific. For example, describe the compromise you think would work for these two separate belief systems on women's single sex spaces.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 14/10/2023 22:36

OK, but how would you feel about third spaces for transgender women?

There is pretty much universal support among gc women on MN for third spaces, as far as I've seen.
