Are there any brands that pre-shrink their fabrics? I’m so sick of finding beautiful clothes that fit perfectly until the first time I wash them. I got the perfect jumpsuit from Seasalt recently and felt amazing in it the first time I wore it. Washed at 30 degrees and hung it up to dry and the next time I went to put it on, it was too small. Had the same experience with a dress from Oasis a couple of years ago too. I’ve always believed that I can’t wear dresses or jumpsuits because I’m quite long waisted. So it’s so disappointing when I think I’ve finally found one I can wear, only for it to shrivel up in the wash.

Thanks op, great thread Smile

cyclingmad · 26/06/2021 12:58

I used love Karen Millen as the clothes were great quality last for years and tailored. Sadly boohoo bought them out and now its crap. Is there a good alternative brand or place that you recommend?

Atalune · 26/06/2021 13:15

Someone up thread asked about natural fabrics and loose boho styles

Have you tried the Kin range at John Lewis? Or maybe Hush or Mint Velvet. Similar loose relaxed vibe?

Noa Noa also have nice things as you describe. Smile

Kate6000 · 26/06/2021 13:41

Ideas for decent merino smart round neck jumpers for work that don't wear in the wash, usually use Mango but the quality has gone downhill in recent years and now very thin

KatieMcKatie · 26/06/2021 13:56

I think this is really kind.

Atalune · 26/06/2021 14:06

@KatieMcKatie everlane have a good sale on their cashmere jumpers right now. Worth a look. Or Uniqlo.
@frillseeking thank you! It hadn't even occurred to me to try those shapes Flowers
I saw this today and also thought of you. It covers the chunkiest part of the arm whilst not covering up too much

Office attire for a size 26 in a serious business role please? Blush
This was challenging, it must be frustrating for you trying to find smart workwear, there really is a big gap in the market for this. I love these dress shapes and think a smart, fitted dress often looks much more stylish and smart then a bog standard suit. I particularly love the sleeveless shirt dress style, this looks so flattering. Marina Rinaldi is a fantastic plus size brand but it's expensive but they do have a sale on at the moment and they have a diffusion range called Persona at John Lewis. These styles would work throughout the year as they could be worn with bare legs in summer and tights in winter. The flat shoes make them look on the casual side but I would style with a smart shoe and a statement necklace and add some colour with a little jacket

This little red jacket from Curvissa would look great teamed with one of the dresses and I love these blouses to wear with black trousers.

I also came across this brand which has some great pieces www.ullapopken.co.uk/en/blazers/all-blazers/bengaline-stretch-blazer/p/791728130-1007

Where can I find a dropped waist dress?
What's the occasion or end use?

@inthekitchensink try Scamp and Dude: scampanddude.com/product-category/sweatshirts/

@Biscoffin

I would love to find the perfect white maternity dress for a family photoshoot. I don’t like my arms, and I am not a fan of tiered dresses. Any help would be hugely appreciated! Smile
I love this. It's got sleeves, it's got that casual relaxed vibe but it's still got a great shape that I think would work really well in photos. How exciting, I wore something similar for some pregnancy photos and they're something special to really treasure Smile

I really like what Marina Rinaldi tries to do (and have bought their clothes for other people in the past). I was absolutely torn to shreds when I recommended the brand here a couple of weeks ago!

@Scbchl

Oh I have one..im an hourglass size 14 mid 30s and need an outfit for a hen next weekend thats glitter/festival themed 😭 the others are under 30 size 6s and wearing very little! I want to stick with the theme but look classy
Tricky one! I guess it depends on where you'll be wearing the outfit. Two different interpretations below and two quite different looks. The sequin dress has a belted waist so would show off your hourglass shape and ticks the glitter theme. The other style is a bit more laid back/ hippy/ festival vibe whilst looking classy and the shape of the skirt would be great for your figure

@Notashandyta

What a great ama!

2 questions- where to shop for someone tall but not very tall (ie 5.9" or 5.10")? That is also decent quality, and caters for a range of clothing eg. Swimwear, tops, as well as trousers jeans etc...

I was slim all my life but now early 40's with three young kids and have put on weight, mostly on my boobs. So second question- how oh how do you dress big boobs without looking matronly? And also a mum tum, how to hide a mum tum without shapeless garments that make you look like a tent??!!

I am the same .
JonathanRipples · 26/06/2021 16:54

I love all the suggestions the OP has made on this thread, I'm getting some fantastic inspiration and looking at brands and styles I've never heard of before.

I've just placed an order with scamp and Dude and that Silk Fred dress is absolutely gorgeous too.

Thank you OP 💐

Joolsin · 26/06/2021 16:54

Thanks for doing this, op, you really know your stuff!!! I've got this navy/cherry print swim dress from Joe Browns - it's a few seasons old and I was going to update this year, but they don't have anything I like - everything's too frilly and not me. I love this blue/daisy Pearl Lowe suit but it's waaaaay over my budget. Can you recommend anything similar but cheaper, please?!!

Hi OP please can I have a pink & red jumper that makes me happy. Bright colours, any pattern, any material any shape. I want to fall in love.
Scamp and dude definitely springs to mind straight away for their signature leopard print style but they also have this cool stripe style. Attached some other ideas too. Love that you're happy to explore colour!

Hi I would love a personal style session as I have kind of lost myself since having a child. Can you explain what the process is like? I don't want to feel like I am forced into buying stuff but I really need some one to one advice.

LaMarschallin · 26/06/2021 17:15

Happily following this thread.
Just wanted to say how much I appreciate you quoting the posts and posters you're answering.

Sooo frustrating on here when you see things like:

RandomMNPoster

Yes! I did that and they all fell off too.
I'll have to get a pointy one instead with a double gusset

and I end scrolling back madly to find out what they're replying to.

@AnnaBegins

Please help me find a light cover up /jacket under £50 to wear with this green dress, I dislike my upper arms and love floaty 3/4 sleeves but am struggling to find anything!
Gorgeous dress, are you wearing to an occasion?

Well hello!
This is quite the service 🤗

Two questions please

 1. I got a lovely dressing gown from one hundred stars on my birthday. But where do you find nice slippers? I need them to be a bit supportive after breaking my ankle last year.

 2. where can I find a charcoal or black cardigan, bum covering, bit structured and not too thin, for under £30 or is that too much to ask?

Thank you.

frillseeking · 26/06/2021 19:22

@TreasuredMim

Have recently transitioned from dyed dark brown hair, when I suited bright reds and greens, to natural grey hair. Fair skin and blue eyes if that matters. Now I struggle to know what colours suit me. Think grey and black probably look okay but as I work in a relaxed environment these seem too formal. Guidance would be appreciated.
Soft pastel colours will flatter your skin tone and grey hair, especially baby blue to bring out your eyes. See how gorgeous pink tones look in the image below. I'd say black is definitely too harsh but grey could still work if you pair back with another colour or with white to keep it light and soft

A family wedding! I'm having the dress shortened slightly to just below knee. I'm a size 14-16, it fits me so well but I do need something to wear with it that doesn't detract from it, so all help so welcome. This is a great thread!
