Wheres the best place to shop for a young looking age 50 rock chick who doesnt like polyester/florals/boden/seasalt/hush?

Orangeinmybluelightcup · 25/06/2021 22:05

Please tell me where I find jeans that fit!

torquewench · 25/06/2021 22:05

(As in where should she go shopping, not to purchase a said 50 year old 🤦🏼‍♀️)

user1477249785 · 25/06/2021 22:05

Can you recommend best places for petite people. In particular anywhere that does good jumpsuits? Thanks!

NauseousNancy · 25/06/2021 22:08

I need a dress for a wedding in August. Size 18/20 (biiiiig hips), 36j boobs, small-ish waist. Want something nice material, not clingy and below the knee but not frumpy.

I don’t ask for much Grin

parsnipsnotsprouts · 25/06/2021 22:09

I would also like to know about jeans. None fit me. They all fall down. I have a bit of an odd straight shape. I think I’m a size 12, 5ft 9, quite big hips but a flat tummy and no bum. I don’t really have a waist to speak of

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 25/06/2021 22:11

Size 18, 40 something who needs to get out of the 'jeans and an off shoulder top' phase of my life, but still hide my wobbly bits. I'm also really quite poor.

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 25/06/2021 22:12

I have narrow hips and not much bum. My waist is high and my weight sits on 'love handles'
Trousers and jeans are baggy around the crotch and hips and fall down. Have you any jeans recommendations?

What a great job!
What is the best sleeve style for chunky upper arms whilst not looking like you are inappropriately dressed and trying to hide something when it's hot?

You don't want to cover up too much as that draws attention to your arms even more and instantly alerts people to that area, especially if it's warm and you're all covered up! Something like a puff sleeve like this with elasticated cuff as it's actually very flattering as it balances out the proportions of your arm or the soft fluttered sleeve as it falls just above the elbow, showing off the slimmer part of your arm.

DP buys all his clothes from Next and Superdry. He is short and slim and says lots of clothing that says it is slim isn't. Any ideas of other companies that cater for slim men?

And casual maxi dresses that I don't have to get turned up/trip over/wear 5inch heels
FindingMeno · 25/06/2021 22:30

@frillseeking thank you! It hadn't even occurred to me to try those shapes Flowers

Notashandyta · 25/06/2021 22:32

What a great ama!

2 questions- where to shop for someone tall but not very tall (ie 5.9" or 5.10")? That is also decent quality, and caters for a range of clothing eg. Swimwear, tops, as well as trousers jeans etc...

I was slim all my life but now early 40's with three young kids and have put on weight, mostly on my boobs. So second question- how oh how do you dress big boobs without looking matronly? And also a mum tum, how to hide a mum tum without shapeless garments that make you look like a tent??!!

knitpicker · 25/06/2021 22:33

Ooohhh I need help. I work in a museum, I am 50, speccy, really quite grey and a frump. I want to apply for the CEO role coming up but no idea how to dress the part. Ideally I would start dressing more like ‘a boss’ now … can you point me in the right direction? I am tall and used to be thin but hurt my back last year which impinged on my exercise- am now overweight, very typical middle aged spread

ginandgingers92 · 25/06/2021 22:35

I'm a s10 on top/ s12 bottom (big legs). 6ft, 28yrs old and feel huge! Formerly an hourglass figure, but 2 kids later I'm probably more a pear... Any silhouettes to try!?

Angelica789 · 25/06/2021 22:35

Is it better to look fashionable or wear styles that suit you? Do styles ever suit anyone when they’re totally out of fashion? Eg when skinnies first came out it was claimed only model types could wear them, then anyone can wear them, then back to no one looks good in them!

Piccalily19 · 25/06/2021 22:42

What’s the best style of dress and best type of jeans/top casual combo for someone who wants to make their waist appear smaller?
Im tall, with average-biggish boobs and a size 12 if that helps! Even when I loose weight/tone up I still feel shapeless.

Bumzoo · 25/06/2021 22:49

I need decent jeans. Not skinny. Generous size 12

A little difficult to say without knowing your style, age and type of venue etc but a few different options. Your figure sounds amazing and you definitely want to show off your waist and show a hint of cleavage whilst flattering your hips. These styles are very different in style - I.e one is younger and more modern, the other is more classic but the shapes would both really flatter your figure

Definitely go for the big high street brands and online retailers. They have the budgets to be able to offer proper petite ranges whereas small independent brands just have to stick to mainstream sizes and fits. Being petite, you can afford to explore prints so these would look great
