@frillseeking off topic but I got a free hayu month or something, and kourtney Kardashian's outfits are amazing in the take new York episodes! I think it said it was filmed in 2011 or something, but I would still wear every piece! Do you know who their stylist is?
I had a quick google and it appears that they all used to work with a stylist called Monica Rose but there was some drama behind the scenes and Kourtney now works with Dani Michelle. fashionista.com/2017/08/kardashian-jenner-clothes-style-stylist-explainer.

This is also interesting www.vogue.com/article/keeping-up-with-the-kardashians-fashion-history. Kim was definitely the main star back then and it's quite difficult to find many articles on the other sisters style but looking back at google images, Kourtney's style was quite playful and fun but always with a bit of a classic or tailored twist. Shorts have always been a key staple of her wardrobe. Designers to look at are Sandro, Maje, Alice and Olivia and even Reiss for that luxe, feminine tailored look.

I think I am all caught up now!

@myfuckingfreezer you asked what items I've got my eye on. I've just bought this swimsuit which is classic but not frumpy to take my little girl to swimming lessons as I usually wear an old maternity one piece! Definitely time for an upgrade.

I got another pair of these H&M shorts as they're super flattering, even for someone like myself who doesn't normally wear shorts but the high waist creates a lovely silhouette at the waist (same as the leopard trousers I mentioned upthread) and the leg is nice and loose.

And then this NFD dress for a 40th garden party I've got coming up, love the colour and print

Hi there, I love the Hunza G style swimming costumes but can't justify the price tag! Can you recommend any cheaper alternatives? Thanks!

ILoveToads · 02/07/2021 20:36

Hi frillseeking, you're lovely for doing this and I really love so many of your suggestions.

Please could I ask what you would advise for a longish line top which could suit me? I have a normal upper frame and waist but a bit of underbelly and wide hips. I'm a 12-14 but I feel like my proportions are very odd!

I'm looking to wear with an olive green jacket and black jeans to a casual pub scenario.

NigellaSeed · 02/07/2021 20:46

This thread is amazing!
May I ask a question.

I have very broad shoulders, and I'm 5'7" size 8, what can I wear that is flattering on my sharp shoulders? Thanks so much of you answer x

Cantstandtherainydays · 02/07/2021 23:29

@Cantstandtherainydays

What a fantastic thread. You're very kind OP and good at your job.

I'm looking for a comfortable pair of trousers, preferably black, for a size 16, for casual wear. I don't have a large bum or hips, all my weight is on my stomach, definitely apple shaped. I have loads of leggings and jeans, but they roll down over my stomach all the time, meaning I get an attractive double roll!

Also some nice bum covering tops to go with them that suit large boobs. For casual and also a nice one for going to the pub! My budget is really low, I mainly shop on Ebay!

@frillseeking sorry I don't think you've answered mine. No worries if you can't, just wondered if you'd missed it Blush
JacktomyDaniel · 03/07/2021 07:52

Hello! I posted quite early on the thread but think it was missed. I'm hopeful that I'll be promoted in an educational role soon and need to look professional but trendy.

Now for the problem. I live in leggings and oversize tshirts.
Only 5ft tall. Size 16/18. Skinny, short legs, massive belly. Hideous gunt. Huuuuge boobs. 34HH.
Is there anywhere that acknowledges you can be fat with big boobs but still petite?

Also what are the basic rules for my shape. What should I definitely not do or what should I always do.

Thanks again. I've picked up some great ideas so far.

iamsosobored · 03/07/2021 08:22

Hi! I posted a while ago but think I was missed too. I'm a 5'0 pear shape with very big thighs. How do I dress to flatter my figure? I don't wear dresses or skirts really. Do I wear tops that cover my saddle bags or short tops that don't? Thank you very much

This has been an amazing thread OP. I had a personal shopping experience in the past but it wasn’t that great tbh. You seem lovely and so great at your job. How can we find you as I’d love you to help me once I’ve had my baby and lost some weight- maybe next year some time?

Thanks so much, glad you've found the suggestions helpful :)

I'm sure your proportions are not odd at all but I would suggest something like this style:

www.reiss.com/p/cotton-jersey-t-shirt-with-split-hem-womens-eddie-in-white-cream/?hInd=4

The shoulder detail will balance out your top and bottom half and the style is longer longer line but the split hem makes it a lot more flattering. You don't want to wear something long line that drowns your shape.

Another more classic option would be something like this www.thewhitecompany.com/uk/Jersey-Batwing-Sleeve-Top/p/BACST?swatch=Blue+Stripe. the batwing style is great for pear shapes as it naturally tapers in below the waist which will make your bottom half appear smaller

Hope that helps!

This thread is amazing! May I ask a question.

I have very broad shoulders, and I'm 5'7" size 8, what can I wear that is flattering on my sharp shoulders? Thanks so much of you answer x

Thanks so much!

So essentially, if you feel your shoulders are very sharp, you want to be going for soft necklines such as scoop and a soft v and avoiding anything angular such as square or straight. Soft, draped armholes will flatter such as a dolman sleeve or kimono and wide shoulder straps will flatter which might be surprising but the more fabric between the neck and the shoulders, the more flattering the style. Avoid anything with a puff sleeve that will add volume or sleeveless shirt dress styles as these are very structured.

www.stories.com/en_gbp/clothing/dresses/midi-dresses/product.fold-up-sleeve-midi-wrap-dress-brown.0976186002.html

For a basic tee, something like this shape is good as it has a soft v with draws the eyes downwards as well as a little ruching detail on the neckline which adds further interest and diverts the eye from the shoulder www.whistles.com/product/ruched-v-neck-linen-tee-33083.html#cgid=Tops_Clothing_WW&is=true&sz=60&start=0&isSecondPage=false&pid=ruched-v-neck-linen-tee-33083&pos=17

You can also be clever with fabrics. If you want to wear a blouse style for example, look at soft drapey fabrics such as this satin Zara style. The fabric will naturally make the shape softer and therefore look more flattering www.zara.com/uk/en/satin-finish-shirt-with-pocket-p03067009.html?v1=94001567

Hope that helps!

frillseeking · 03/07/2021 20:57

@Cantstandtherainydays sorry I missed your post. I think a lot of people replied at once and it was a bit difficult to keep up! Personally, I wouldn't wear a top that's too long as you don't want to hide your figure, you want to find the right styles to flatter your shape and if your bum is an area where you don't carry your weight then show it off!

This would be a nice trouser option:
www.debenhams.com/product/Wallis-Black-Jersey-Tapered-Trouser_AYY07583?istCompanyId=76f7277d-6e78-4dc2-aaff-1eb77fae16b0&istFeedId=258a4886-8f3c-47ef-9369-d1eda8d84501&istItemId=ptaxiwalp&istBid=t&gclid=CjwKCAjwlYCHBhAQEiwA4K21m22akdM9FmVl_VXZ7TiNjfTuSXkZxenjaN2RxCoArekOrZEtZPdoBhoCDL0QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I have attached an image of a very similar style as the model has an apple shape and it demonstrates how the tapered shape flatters because it highlights her slimmer hips whilst the pleats at the front disguise the tummy area.

A smarter top option:www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2853387_c101/black-sequin-star-cold-shoulder-t-shirt-black. some nice interest detail and longer length and it's a loose fit but quite straight so it will show off your slimmer hip area

Or something like this: www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/tops/red-v-neck-puff-sleeve-button-blouse/p/680855260. it comes in nice colours, has a nice little sleeve detail and the neckline will be flattering on a larger bust

www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0850241006.html this is a nice printed style that I'd dress up for the pub with some nice sandals

This is also a nice look for you www.peacocks.co.uk/4701302-KHAKI_ZEBRA.html. the trousers aren't plain but they're a flattering shape and give a more fashionable look to the outfit and worn with a simple, straight cut cami. This is loose enough not to cling your tummy whilst not being voluminous so it won't hide your figure too much.

These are same nice basics: www.krisp.co.uk/krisp-layered-cowl-neck-top-p14702#attribute%5B1%5D=20. the layering will disguise the tummy and the neckline is lovely for a larger bust

Aw thank you @frillseeking ! I love those trousers. The tops are great too.

In the photo, it looks like she's tucked the top in partly? I haven't perfected the tuck Grin so tend to wear long tops over trousers etc, as I've no waist to speak of and just feel shapeless.

I like the cowl neck top, too.
Not a big fan of animal prints, but will have a think about that. Thank you again!

You're welcome, good luck with the new role! It's so hard to find petite plus sizes isn't it, it's almost impossible! Nearly all petite ranges stop at size 16 for some reason. Wallis, Evans, M&S and New Look have some options. I've linked below:

www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/tops/curves-white-spot-wrap-peplum-blouse/p/696142919

This shape is great as it has a tie front to disguise the tummy and vertical stripes which draw the eyes downward to the slimmest part of your body www.debenhams.com/product/Wallis-Petite-Navy-Stripe-Tie-Front-Ruffle-Top_AYY00935?colour=navy

I would also try a jumpsuit like this as the wide leg will create balance, the wrap neckline will be good for the bust and the tie up to cover tummy. A black background print is also particularly flattering. www.debenhams.com/product/Wallis-Petite-Brush-Stroke-Wide-Leg-Jumpsuit_AYY00926?colour=BLACK/WHITE

I'd have a play around in the mirror and try tucking in. Most people wear something longer to hide the area but actually, tucking in gives you shape and makes your waist appear smaller. There are some good tutorials on YouTube x

Hi! I posted a while ago but think I was missed too. I'm a 5'0 pear shape with very big thighs. How do I dress to flatter my figure? I don't wear dresses or skirts really. Do I wear tops that cover my saddle bags or short tops that don't? Thank you very much
For a petite pear, the best trouser shapes are soft wide legs as these act as a bit of a camouflage for bigger legs. I think the tendency can be to want to wear a longer top to cover up but this will only shorten your legs visually and make your top half look longer and leaner and your bottom half shorter and stumpy which is what you want to avoid. Try to go for soft, drapey fabrics that skim rather than anything jersey that will cling or anything too stiff which will add volume.

I've attached a gorgeous jumpsuit from new look. The top is not too skimpy so will create a good balance between top and bottom and the leg shape will flatter your thighs.

Also a wrap top style jumpsuit from Boohoo which is a great shape for you.

The third outfit is from Wallis and illustrates another key point which is to keep any detail to the top half.

Anything with vertical stripes is flattering and elongating so these are a winner https://www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/trousers/petite-white-stripe-crop-wide-leg-trousers/p/686561119

A pair of soft, printed wide legs is another stylish look https://www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/trousers/petite-black-floral-shirred-wide-leg-trousers/p/682795409?cclid=GoogleeCjwKCAjwuIWHBhBDEiwACXQYscogrC2-DGmhHxPM1bn4CO2OyhVA64DNN9z4-WMY-MMYqULD3QcxoCpQAQAvDBwE&extcam=UKKPPCPLAAGenericsECCGoogleDVVm&gclid=CjwKCAjwuIWHBhBDEiwACXQYscogrC2-DGmhHxPM1bn4CO2OyhVA64DNN9z4-WMY-MMYqULD3QcxoCpQAQAvDBwE
