In A&E with abdominal pain, back pain, puking. It's busy here and I'm bored. AMA!

Are you in Southampton area?

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 17/12/2018 01:25

Not an a&e one, post op (only minor surgery) and wanted to use an actual toilet. Helped into wheelchair, got myself onto the toilet while nurse waited outside, managed to very dramatically rip the cannula out of my hand and squirt blood everywhere. Was very apologetic and agreed to use a commode after that Blush

Sooveritg · 17/12/2018 01:30

Ye, they gave me glucose. I've said that in my post.

SimplySteve · 17/12/2018 01:44

Still here. No chance of sleep in this environment unless they use a baseball bat. Just so triggering and stressful.

They've done a urinalysis and haven't heard since about it.

I don't want to say where I am otherwise a baseball bat might be the least of my worries. I'm north of Birmingham.

Sooveritg · 17/12/2018 01:48

Try to sleep

SimplySteve · 17/12/2018 01:51

Hah. If you knew my past (childhood abuse, rape, sexual abuse) you'd realise sadly.

OP posts:
Sooveritg · 17/12/2018 03:21

I know it's tough.

I oddly enough, sleep through noise better than silence.

Sooveritg · 17/12/2018 03:24

I'm ok with doctors. Nurses freak me out. Don't ask me why, as that seems to make no sense, as they're female, but yes, I don't know, I find them to be a bit brutal sometimes. Whereas male docs are so terribly aware of your vulnerability that I find them to be quite kind and they never upset me.

SimplySteve · 17/12/2018 03:25

Me too - I cant fall asleep without music or an audiobook etc. Just the strange environment here has me on edge (that's without the pain...).

Sooveritg · 17/12/2018 03:26

Typical scenario is, a female nurse will admonish you for crying.

Male doctor will apologise for having had to intrude.

SimplySteve · 17/12/2018 03:34

That's an interesting perspective. I've found the same in reverse as a bloke. Interesting.

OP posts:
Sooveritg · 17/12/2018 03:37

Oh, I've only just copped you're a guy.
Well I'm not talking to you now.

Sooveritg · 17/12/2018 03:38

I don't like boys.

SimplySteve · 17/12/2018 03:41

That's ok then. I'm a man not a boy!

@Sooveritg not all nurses are like that! That’s an awful generalisation Sad
(And not all nurses are female!)

Sooveritg · 17/12/2018 03:43

The ones you remember are.

SimplySteve · 17/12/2018 03:43

She never said they were. It was her personal experience.

OP posts:
Santasushi · 17/12/2018 03:45

@Sooveritg that’s so sad.

SimplySteve · 17/12/2018 03:48

I'm being moved, to another ward, NOW. What the fuck?!

OP posts:
Sooveritg · 17/12/2018 03:51

It is quite sad. So I abscond from hospital whenever they have relieved my pain enough. I regularly get police knocking at my door at 5am in the morning. So I'm wasting police time. Etc. So you will say. I didn't fucking ask for them. So I stumble out of bed and say, yes I'm fine, can you go now please, and off they plod. Police hate me lol.

Sooveritg · 17/12/2018 03:55

I always get the sense that they're itching to arrest me for something. Because I don't invite them in for tea and a bun. I tell them to stop harassing me. They really don't like it.
You see them getting angry, but knowing they have no reason to arrest me, but they really really want to arrest me for something. And I shut the door on them and you can hear them outside debating whether they have grounds to arrest me or not, and off they go.
Bless them.

Sooveritg · 17/12/2018 03:56

Oh, it's probably a permanent ward. That's bad. You're on the way out hun.

Sooveritg · 17/12/2018 03:57

It's ok, I'm here! We'll get you through this.

Sooveritg · 17/12/2018 04:01

Are you on a big ward? That's the worst. Because there is always a snorer and a shouter-in-the-middle-of-the-nighter. You won't get a wink of sleep. When dr doing rounds ask for something to help you sleep.
