@Sooveritg if you get daggers for your humour we are most definitely related!

Sooveritg · 16/12/2018 21:57

My father is exactly the same (accent and all). But he gets all dressed up to go to the hospital.

Sooveritg · 16/12/2018 21:59

My Dad has actually never been admitted to hospital in his life. He's 67. Lol. That's good going.

Sooveritg · 16/12/2018 22:01

My brother is a doctor, but my Dad is still in awe of doctors. Whenever he's visiting me, he's in a suit, tie, the whole works (he's a farmer).

But yes, he has as much subtlety as a bulldozer.

Sooveritg · 16/12/2018 22:04

My Dad gets great craic out of watching my brother (the doctor) who is doing Ju Jitzu etc. trying to split sticks with him. "That fuckin zu zitzu (as he calls it) isn't doin much for ya whah?"

Sorry OP, we're still with ya! We're amusing ourselves here until your diagnosis.

Belle89 · 16/12/2018 22:08

Hope you get some good pain meds op

babysharkah · 16/12/2018 22:13

What do you want to achieve op? Genuine question?

Lougle · 16/12/2018 22:16

I would think diagnosis, pain relief and treatment.

SimplySteve · 16/12/2018 22:16

See, pancreatitis was my thought too.

They don't think so though. Choledocholithiasis seems to be the thought.

Sorting titrated pain meds, so might get one paracetamol soon!

Looks like surgeon review in morning.

Of course I wore good pants! Just as well too....

What do you want to achieve op? Genuine question?

With being in hospital? Pain relief, a dx and the problem sorting so it doesn't recur.

With the thread? Erm, entertainment. Being in hospital is never fun and always boring. Posts like @ABitCrapper being whacked in the head by a toy mop definitely makes you smile.

Oh that's good. never heard of that thing they've diagnosed. What is that exactly?

Sooveritg · 16/12/2018 22:22

If they're not thinking pancreatitis, your pancreatic enzymes must be normal.
They don't pull diagnoses out of their arses. It will be based on bloods and physical examination.
Hope you get some pain relief soon. Pain is a bugger.

SinisterClownWatchingYou · 16/12/2018 22:22

Sooveritg um, your knowledge of pharmacokinetics leaves a lot to be desired. No drugs are processed by the pancreas. Why would you tell someone in pain that they may not be able to have painkillers when you clearly have very little medical knowledge? Hmm

SinisterClownWatchingYou · 16/12/2018 22:24

Simplysteve they probably don't have a by more notes than a sheet with your demographics on printed when you came on. I'd you want a female doctor ASK for one, but it'll depend on who's on call.

Sooveritg · 16/12/2018 22:24

Because I've had it several times, and that's what the consultants told me.

Sooveritg · 16/12/2018 22:25

And SinisterClown, your medical knowledge is zero if you didn't know that everything IS processed through the pancreas.

SinisterClownWatchingYou · 16/12/2018 22:26

Thanks autocorrect.
*any more notes
*came in

BlessThisMess · 16/12/2018 22:26

Sooveritg, I think you mean the liver.

SinisterClownWatchingYou · 16/12/2018 22:28

Sooveritg no. Liver, yes. Kidneys yes. Pancreas no. It releases enzymes primarily too do with digestion.

nocoolnamesleft · 16/12/2018 22:28

Choledocholithiasis = stone in the bile duct. It actually says that, but in, erm, Greek. Just to keep you guessing.

SimplySteve · 16/12/2018 22:29

Opiate pain meds are processed by the liver.

Choledocholithiasis is "bile sludge". Effectively bits of cholesterol that group together and irritate the CBD. I know I have a distended, striated CBD too. Can still get gallstones without a gallbladder!

Nope, I'm talking about pancreatitis, where I've been crying in pain and have had a surgeon and a medical doctor argue as to whether they could give me pain relief. They concluded morphine drip, but were weighing up the pain with the probability of pancreas rupturing.

Pasithea · 16/12/2018 22:32

Sooveritg Then why are people with chronic pancreatitis given morphine orally.

Sooveritg · 16/12/2018 22:34

Ask a surgeon. I'm not one.

Jazzy25 · 16/12/2018 22:34

Absolute rubbish patients with pancreatitis can’t have pain relief Confused it’s one of the most painful general surgical conditions and as such us nurses and Drs give heaps of analgesia for it! Irrelevant if it’s chronic or acute. Pain is pain and we give pain relief accordingly!
