Stokke Snoozi review: the newborn crib which grows with your baby

It may be one of the more pricier newborn cribs on the market, but the Stokke Snoozi is also one of the few designed to grow with your baby for up to nine months. We put it to the test to find out if it's worth the extra cost.

First impressions of the Stokke Snoozi

The Snoozi arrived in a large, cardboard box with minimal plastic packaging. The crib did require assembly but compared to some other nursery furniture we're put together, it was very straightforward.

We had the crib about in less than 5 minutes, and only needed to refer to the instructions a couple of times.

How big is the Stokke Snoozi?

The Snoozi measures W59.7 x H76 x D87.1cm. It is quite a bit bigger than a standard Moses basket, but that's because it is designed to last a bit longer.

How sturdy and safe is the Stokke Snoozi?

The crib feels very sturdy whilst still being relatively easy to move around. The legs are reasonably heavy, it doesn’t feel wobbly or like it could topple over.

How does the Stokke Snoozi look?

We tested the gun metal grey version and it's very striking. It’s big and bold, doesn’t have that soft gentle look like a moses basket it’s more of a modern design.

When I first unpacked it I thought it had a slightly harsh look to it, but now it’s set up in our room, I think it actually looks really nice. For a softer look the sandy beige option would be really nice.

How comfortable is the Stokke Snoozi?

The mattress feels really breathable and well-made. Our mini tester was very comfortable and happy in it. They settled really well, it was a cosy space which felt safe right from the start.

How does the Stokke Snoozi 'grow' with your child?

The base lowers by unclipping the notches. This makes it safe to use even if your baby can sit up, which does make it different to a lot of newborn cribs. I intend to use the crib for 6-8 months ideally, but we may transition to a cot sooner.

How portable is the Stokke Snoozi?

It's quite big. I’m not sure how practical it would be to take on holiday.  The travel bag definitely helps, but since the legs are so sturdy, it’s not exactly the easiest to carry.

The travel bag is really well made and strong and I like that there are loops to secure the legs into, but unless you know you’re going to get a lot of use out of it, I’m not sure it’s worth shelling out an extra £60 for.

What are the best features of the Stokke Snoozi?

I think my favourite thing about the Snoozi is that It’s really easy to set up. You can also tell that it’s made from really high quality materials. It’s definitely a bassinet you can get a few years out of if you have multiple children.

How does the Stokke compare to other cribs and bassinets?

I've used standard Moses baskets before and didn’t find that they were very different to the Snoozi, apart from of course we can use this one for longer.

Does the Stokke Snoozi represent good value for money?

It’s a premium price for a product that I’m not sure really offers premium performance. Compared to other well-loved Stokke designs, this one doesn’t really offer the longevity that other products in their range do.

The iconic Tripp Trapp chair is a huge favourite on the Mumsnet boards and we were impressed with the innovation that the JetKids suitcase offered. Even the Stokke Sleepi crib, which has a high price tag but such an innovative design that it can grow with children up to the age of 5 is impressive and feels worth the investment. This just feels a little lacking of the same design flare that we’ve come to expect from Stokke 

Stokke Snoozi: Overall verdict

It’s a nice crib, well made, nice materials and a decent mattress, but there’s nothing breathtaking about it. I don’t think it offers the best value for money. While the lifespan of this crib is a little longer than a Moses basket, it doesn't have the additional useful features that I’d hope for at this price point. 

It’s offered as a flexible travel friendly solution but really it’s not the easiest cot to move around, especially in early post-partum days. Because it’s bigger than most bassinets you also need to buy the Stokke sheets for the mattress protector if you want something that fits properly. 

The Stokke sheets and mattress protector are beautifully soft and well made, but it’s an additional cost to factor in if you’re seriously considering this crib.
