Hotpoint ActiveCare NDD10726GDAUK Washer Dryer: our verdict

With its generous size and range of useful cycles, the Hotpoint ActiveCare NDD10726GDAUK Washer Dryer is a great choice for families. At under £500, it's also more budget-friendly than other options.

Nino appreciated the easy-to-navigate control panel, and found himself using the delay timer in order to wash laundry overnight on the longer Eco mode. There's nothing quite like waking up to a freshly washed and dried load of laundry, and the machine is quiet enough to run at night without disturbing even the youngest members of the family.

For less organised days, there's the Rapid cycle that'll wash a small load in just 30 minutes, and the continuous wash and dry cycle takes care of a 7kg load from start to finish.

While we would have liked a dry-only cycle, and the D energy rating isn't ideal (unfortunately you'll need to shell out around £1,000 for an A-rated washer dryer with a heat pump rather than condenser dryer), if you're pushed for space and are looking for a reliable machine that'll make light work of your family's laundry, the Hotpoint ActiveCare NDD10726GDAUK is a solid choice.

What's the Hotpoint ActiveCare NDD10726GDAUK Washer Dryer like to set up and start using?

Thanks to an expert delivery team, Nino didn't have to lift a finger while the washing machine was installed. The control panel is sleekly designed but simple to use, with straightforward buttons, a dial to pick your cycle and a digital display to select extra features like Steam Hygiene and to show you what your laundry cycle is up to while it's on.

As with all washer dryers, the Hotpoint ActiveCare NDD10726GDAUK can wash more than it can dry, so you either need to take a few bits out to dry on your heated clothes airer or wash 7kg or less for continuous washing and drying.

What's the Hotpoint ActiveCare NDD10726GDAUK Washer Dryer like to use day-to-day?

Quiet, effective and easy to use, the Hotpoint ActiveCare NDD10726GDAUK fits right in with Nino's family life. Taking advantage of the lower energy costs of the Eco cycle, he prefers to set the machine to work overnight, finishing up just before everyone wakes up for the day. The Eco cycle takes longer than other modes, so it's ideal to use overnight or when you're not in a hurry to get your laundry back.

The Stop and Add feature is a godsend we're always happy to see on modern washing machines and washer dryers. Allowing you to pause the cycle and add any forgotten or extra items to the wash, it comes in particularly handy with a baby around.

With a 10kg wash capacity, it's big enough for bedding, bath sheets and all the laundry a young family can produce on a day-to-day basis. Nino finds the 7kg drying capacity more than enough for drying even large items, and says the drum is "like a Tardis!"

Is the Hotpoint ActiveCare NDD10726GDAUK Washer Dryer energy-efficient?

As a washing machine, the Hotpoint ActiveCare NDD10726GDAUK Washer Dryer has an energy rating of A, however, like most washer dryers, its drying function has a D rating. Here's why:

While they take up half the space of a separate washing machine and tumble dryer, they use a lot more energy than two standalone appliances do. Most budget washer dryers and even some of the more premium ones will have an overall rating of D.

This is because, while washer dryers use about the same amount of energy on a wash cycle as a washing machine, they use a lot more than a standalone tumble dryer. Energy ratings are worked out separately for a washer dryer's wash and dry functions, but its overall rating will be the lower of the two.

Most washer dryers under £1,000 have a condenser tumble dryer, which are cheaper to manufacture but more energy-hungry than the newer, energy-efficient heat pump tumble dryers. They also require more heat to dry your clothes than even a relatively energy-inefficient budget tumble dryer, so achieving an A rating is still only possible for more expensive models like the LG LSWD100E.

In order to save energy, Which? recommend washing at lower temperatures and separating your fabric types for drying, which will shorten the drying time.

Does the Hotpoint ActiveCare NDD10726GDAUK Washer Dryer offer good value for money?

Retailing for just under £500, this washer dryer is at the more affordable end of the market, especially for its size. While you can pick up an 8kg/5kg or 7kg/4kg model for under £400 if you shop around (for example the Beko WDL854431W, £399 at the time of writing), Mumsnet users rate Hotpoint's affordable washer dryers over other budget brands.

With genuinely useful extra features like Stop and Add and Steam Hygiene, not to mention its massive drum size, the Hotpoint ActiveCare NDD10726GDAUK Washer Dryer is a great value washer dryer that'll take care of your laundry effortlessly.
