Hope this works. We should all be able to watch the Westminster hall self ID debate today at 9.30 am live.

Not sure if you can go back and watch it later...

Thank you. Starting soon.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 21/11/2018 09:24

Is this THE debate, or just A debate?

PersistenceIsNotFutile · 21/11/2018 09:27

Looks like you can request a download of the proceedings and set the time to the future....

Goldenbuzzer · 21/11/2018 09:30

It’s a Westminster hall debate called by David T C Davies. ( think it’s just a chance to discuss the issue without the MP’s having to specifically answer a specific question / vote on anything.

He is heroic.

Virtually empty room, but the few (female) MPs there keep pulling him up on bizarre points. One even beginning her argument by saying (of Karen White) 'I don't know the details of this case'.

My faith in MPs was pretty low already, but this is eye opening and depressing. How can they be so daft? (DTC Davies excepted, of course.)

FloralCup · 21/11/2018 09:42

Trying to listen but the audio keeps cutting out - not sure if it is my wifi though.

saltedcaramelmuffin · 21/11/2018 09:43

Is it David Davies doing most of the talking? He's great!

WhereAreWeNow · 21/11/2018 09:44

Is anyone else watching this? Who are the women MPs? So disappointing to have a bloke making the arguments for women's rights and a couple of women doing the TRAs' bidding for them.

Who was the women who said that women in prisons are also violent to women!?????

saltedcaramelmuffin · 21/11/2018 09:45

Yes I'm watching. Agreed that it's bizarre that it's women who are seemingly pro self ID.

saltedcaramelmuffin · 21/11/2018 09:46

Excellent points about this subject needing debate

saltedcaramelmuffin · 21/11/2018 09:48

I'm in love with this guy. Such a great speaker, very calm and articulate.

Gonzales27 · 21/11/2018 09:49

I'm not sure he was as convincing or as articulate on this issue as he has been in the past.

AbsintheFriends · 21/11/2018 09:49

It was the same woman Spartacus - the one in green. Don't know who she is, I'm afraid.

What's notable to me is the calm reason of DDavies's tone, compared with the virtuous outrage in the tone of the people derailing ('We need to protect all prisoners from all violence!' 'But all of these issues have taken place under the current law!')

AbsintheFriends · 21/11/2018 09:52

Does anyone know who is speaking now? She's a friend of Helen Belcher and is WHOLEHEARTEDLY (her emphasis) behind the government's proposed reforms...

WhereAreWeNow · 21/11/2018 09:52

The woman in the checked blazer and glasses is Layla Moran. Lib Dem. Friends with Helen Belcher Hmm

RetiredNotExpired · 21/11/2018 09:53

It's Layla Moran en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Layla_Moran

AbsintheFriends · 21/11/2018 09:54

Ok - thanks

Gonzales27 · 21/11/2018 09:56

Did she just say, I believe as woman is a woman when referring to a trans Person ina female changing room!

littlbrowndog · 21/11/2018 09:56

I believe women are women

I believe in their soul

WhereAreWeNow · 21/11/2018 09:57

"I daresay many women have beards" - thanks for that Layla. Helpful contribution.

AbsintheFriends · 21/11/2018 09:58

She did - she's a joke. She doesn't have a problem with male bodied people in female spaces, so no women are allowed to. She laughed about people with beards in women's spaces and said that some women have beards.

Privilege, stupidity and a desire to be liked are a dangerous combination. Especially in an MP

saltedcaramelmuffin · 21/11/2018 10:00

Ugh she is missing the point completely. It's not that someone changes their gender "on whim", it's that with self ID ANYONE could go into women's spaces and couldn't be challenged.

BertBox · 21/11/2018 10:01

What an idiot this woman is. Obviously done the minimum amount of research. Staggering that she was a science teacher.
