Watching BBC 2 right now.
Looks like it will come up later in the programme.

Interesting. Just saw that on another thread. The BBC had an article online about it too. What’s with all of the coverage so suddenly..?

Binglebong · 10/10/2018 22:44

They follow the win. Tide is turning.

WTFisawomxn · 10/10/2018 22:45

I dunno... it could be damage control from the same group of people who wanted the word to be spelled womxn in the first place. It's a bit weird that it popped up at the Wellcome and Nottingham Contemporary at the same time, and right after the billboard controversy, isn't it?

WTFisawomxn · 10/10/2018 22:46

Let's see what happens. What did the BBC article say?

Here’s the BBC article

WTFisawomxn · 10/10/2018 23:01

(Side note: I cannot believe that in the West, we are having to argue about the basic existence of women as the female sex, when there are people dying in India because they are climbing into sewers doing "manual scavenging" and everyone is denying responsibility....)

On now!

WTFisawomxn · 10/10/2018 23:02

They have writer/broadcaster Sophie Cook.

OP posts:
Destinysdaughter · 10/10/2018 23:02

Sophie Cook. So not an actual woman then? FFS

WTFisawomxn · 10/10/2018 23:03

They're angry about women with a y: womyn
Saying it excludes women of colour and transwomen.

OP posts:
Destinysdaughter · 10/10/2018 23:03

The word woman is elitist????

AyeRobot · 10/10/2018 23:04

Not watching, but seriously? This is nothing in the scheme of things.

WTFisawomxn · 10/10/2018 23:04

Sophie is, as we know, trans. It seems to come off as two biological males arguing about women. And they're confused about why women are offended.

Overstating · 10/10/2018 23:04

Ha ha ha ha ha the interviewer is tripping himself up with all his 'defined by'!

WTFisawomxn · 10/10/2018 23:05

Now they're on about non-binary.

OP posts:
Destinysdaughter · 10/10/2018 23:05

I bloody knew I shouldn’t have watched this. 2 MEN discussing what words women are allowed to use to describe themselves...? Angry

littlbrowndog · 10/10/2018 23:05

2 guys talking about women it seems

enrichedatthegulags · 10/10/2018 23:05

So no females were available to comment?
Is this a joke?

Overstating · 10/10/2018 23:05

Sophie: We need to look at these things with kind eyes. [translation: see I'm such a good woman]

Overstating · 10/10/2018 23:06

Oh I give up. Sophie: there are people who are so quick to be offended about something.

Seriously??? Without a hint of irony?

WTFisawomxn · 10/10/2018 23:06

They want to "lower the temperature," and Sophie says we need to "look at things with kind eyes."

Sophie says people are so quick to judge and be offended.

OP posts:
littlbrowndog · 10/10/2018 23:06

Kind eyes ffs

Destinysdaughter · 10/10/2018 23:06

Where’s the fucking balance BBC??

Wheres the bloody WOMEN??

littlbrowndog · 10/10/2018 23:06

Why no women on this wtaf

WTFisawomxn · 10/10/2018 23:07

Yup. Another one for the bias thread, then.
