SC says feminists invented the word and happily used it - I'd like to see a source for that! Something beyond 'it was invented by some random who id's as a feminist on Tumblr' either - exactly which prominent feminist(s) invented it and how widespread among feminists was its acceptance and usage? Because I've been a radical feminist for a good long while and 'womxn' isn't a word I've used or come across at all, except maybe on 'non binary/genderfluid' tumblr.

Then SC says that 'all of a sudden' feminists find it offensive, which he mocks by saying 'noone' finds it offensive, contradicting SCself in seconds.

Then SC says it's a good word because if you want to exclude men from women then it takes men out of the word, and SC does a duper delight smugface like SC's come up with the world's greatest gotcha. I think SC is trying to appropriate arguments made by some second wave feminists for the word womyn, but SC's interpretation of those arguments amounts to "those feminazis man haters have no right to define themselves or create their own language!".

So basically SC is trying to utilise systemic sexism against women to mock our politics in order to make SC's misogynist point that feminists are all nutters arent they mate, you can't let a woman decide how to describe herself, she'll only get all upset and emotional and make a bloody big mess won't she mate? while SC nudges and winks at the other dude sat next to SC.

And SC sits there doing this while wearing (surprise!) thick glasses and a garden centre dress and over caked makeup and a bloody awful wig, and actual women are expected to be silent about SC's appropriation and misogyny and grotesque pantomiming of who we are.

And while SC sits there mocking and insulting all of us, I have to de-genderise my post about how fucking disgusting SC's actions are, because if I make any reference at all to the sex SC is, I'll be punished.

I mean ffs just fucking LOOK at SC. Just one HONEST look, one HONEST listen. Does anyone see or hear a woman?

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 01:12

No, they do not. But if they say so they'll get deleted/banned from Twitter/thumped.

JoanSummers · 11/10/2018 01:26

Not everyone will get deleted/banned/thumped, though.

Some people are doing the deleting/banning/thumping.

Do those people see or hear a woman when they see or hear Sophie Cook?

MNHQ?

BoreOfWhabylon · 11/10/2018 01:39

Honestly, this was so ludicrous thhat I can't even get angry. This will certainly have helped to peak-trans a lot of viewers, which makes me think it must have been intentional. No one could possibly have taken that spectacle seriously. Could they?

I do missJeremy Paxman sometimes. Him doing that interview would have been worth watching Grin

FoldyRoll · 11/10/2018 01:45

The absolute worst of this (and lord knows, there's lots to choose from) is the BBC not pulling SC up on the outrageous racism of the definition.

Datun · 11/10/2018 04:16

From what I can gather this is peaking people everywhere. No one can fail to spot the ludicrousness.

Twitter hilarity with "which man is the woman?"

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 04:48

Respond with "the big one".

deepwatersolo · 11/10/2018 05:09

I can only reiterate: People who believe that ‚women‘ does not include human females of color are worse than the KKK.

deepwatersolo · 11/10/2018 05:11

It is sure remarkable, how TRAs always need some human shields to hide behind - intersex people, women of color...

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 11/10/2018 05:59

I would imagine they are pretending the metro ad doesn't exist. Or at least the smart ones are.

Pink News didn't get the memo...

TorchesTorches · 11/10/2018 06:11

Complain to the BBC, I did it yesterday over the Thought for the day section in the Today Programme that I heard. Filling in the online complaint form from about 10-15 mins. All data complaining about bias is collated.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 11/10/2018 06:37

good grief

i just complained via the bbc website - took about 5 minutes

Now100 · 11/10/2018 06:55

113 messages on here at the moment. This is a discussion about the very word we use to describe ourselves.

Anyone want to predict how many deletions there will be?

This feels like a dystopian nightmare in which some women are stopping others speaking truthfully. I really hope all the messages stand.

deepwatersolo · 11/10/2018 07:06

Notably, womxn has been used by women of color to describe themselves - centering the experience of black, indigenous... women.
I very much doubt they ever thought they are not in the category of women, though they would presumably make the point that they are often not heard, therefore womxn.
I wonder what these women have to say about a bloke an a male in a dress, who sees themselves as a womxn, discussing the meaning of womxn and whom the term includes.

RedToothBrush · 11/10/2018 07:07

'Trans women are racist womxn' last nights Newsnight screams loud and clear.

The whole Womxn thing quacks like a white middle class MRA movement which hates women and others people of colour by appropriation and colonisation.

When Lily Madigan did this, the flapping at the backlash was painful. It seems to be a common trope though amongst The Woke Idols. It's trotted out most at the least inclusive universities in the country, which strangely enough are also the most prestigious and where BBC staff are most likely to have attended. It's almost as if The Woke aren't really all that inclusive after all and are a screaming bunch of self appointed, self serving moralising hypocrites who hate it when it's pointed out.

I hope everyone is complaining at just how offensive that section was.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 11/10/2018 07:10

I mean ffs just fucking LOOK at SC. Just one HONEST look, one HONEST listen. Does anyone see or hear a woman?

cognitive dissonance can be a serious contributor to mental health issues

i do wonder if that's why some of the 'allies' seem so angry / aggressive

it must be so uncomfortable having to over ride what your brain and eyes are telling you all the time

Cwenthryth · 11/10/2018 07:11

They're angry about women with a y: womyn. Saying it excludes...transwomen
Ironic. Seeing that transwomen are ‘women with a y’ (chromosome)

Just watched it on catch up. It just comes across as parody, in more ways that one. There are so many intelligent insightful brilliant feminist women speakers they could have invited to discuss this. I’ve just watched it through twice and still can’t summarise what SC was actually arguing as it was inconsistent and illogical, but seemed to be ‘feminists (who are all white middle class women) are mean’. Never heard that before, better behave ourselves hadn’t we.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 11/10/2018 07:12

and yes, someone implying unchallenged that black women aren't women

the level of racism is astonishing

what the hell is the bbc thinking?

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 07:24

what the hell is the bbc thinking?

"We are so woke, and Twitter will be full of praise for us tomorrow"

Oops!

Alternatively...

"You think we don't know what an elitist, top-down, being imposed upon the people against their will movement this is? Of course we know. Just though that rubbing your faces in it extra obviously would be fun. This is what your license fees are paying for and there's not a damn thing you can do about it."

RedToothBrush · 11/10/2018 07:31

Let's be honest, trans women don't want to go near the word womyn - not because it excludes trans women - but because if they tried to appropriate the word it doesn't suit their agenda of glossing over the elephant in the room known as a y chromosome. Instead it would have the effect of drawing attention to it.

It's interesting to see the level of understanding how appropriation of a word is being thought out and strategised by seeing how there is a desire to steer clear of womyn and instead attack it as being exclusionary.

It highlights the power of language and how its being manipulated in a certain way by trans activists.

This thread will look like Swiss cheese soon enough (if it escape the chop) which will be something of a travesty given how incredibly exclusionary the entire newsnight segment was last night and how grotesque its overt racism was.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/10/2018 07:31

The debacle is covered in The Times this morning - unfortunately not Newsnights exacerbation of it (yet):

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/museum-workshop-for-womxn-backfires-hdn5j6nss?shareToken=d2e1e3f2eb7ea552f4ff32fd99659ff5

And comment by Janice Turner who gets more to the point:

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/now-even-scientists-cannot-say-woman-r99dppr67?shareToken=62279f89adfcd762cde0cb5373860cc7

TheCuriousMonkey · 11/10/2018 07:31

I haven't watched the newsnight piece as my blood pressure is already sky high from reading this thread.

But WTAF is this womxn nonsense? Since when have women of colour objected to women or womyn? I'd be only too pleased if some helpful trans activist could tell me as I'm genuinely confused because I don't think I have ever seen that anywhere.

And while I'm at it can someone enlighten me on how to pronounce "womxn", that number of vowels in a row just doesn't trip off the tongue.

Or is the point that it becomes literally impossible to talk about the people formerly known as women. Because talking about women is literal violence and exclusionary?

FlippinFumin · 11/10/2018 07:33

I too do not think it is any coinicidence that woman = adult human female scored lots of positive points, ergo we will just have to get rid of the word woman.

Not sure that made much sense, but the timing of this bollocks is no coincidence, full on erasure of women.

As an aside, young lad on my facebook yesterday posted womxn!! Bollox! So not all the young uns are woke dude bros.

SuperSange · 11/10/2018 07:36

Am I being thick? Since when did 'woman' exclude anyone but men? Jesus shitting Christ, I feel like I'm in an episode of doctor who or something.
