Watching BBC 2 right now.
Looks like it will come up later in the programme.

"Rosie O-Grady and the captain's lady are sisters under the skin"

Sophie Cook, on the other hand, is nobody's sister and never will be.

LizzieSiddal · 11/10/2018 07:49

Welcome to Gillead and tonight on Newsnight we have ....

2 men discussing the Tampax Tax, the menoupause, childbirth, GGing, netball, hysterectomies, and the meaning of “women”.

HandsOffMyRights · 11/10/2018 07:50

Don't forget that Girlguiding's Helen recorded an interview with Newsnight that was never aired. Why?

LizzieSiddal · 11/10/2018 07:57

HandsOff, I wonder if that descion was made by the same person who binned the piece, which proved Jimmy Saville was a peodophile?

DaisyTwirl · 11/10/2018 07:57

As far as I'm concerned, transwomen can have 'womxyn' if they want (and transmen 'mxxn'
That way the rest of the world can carry on with the objective fact & reality of Woman = female, Man = male.

CallingDannyBoy · 11/10/2018 08:10

Complained as well thank you for the link. It was difficult to decide which category to put the complaint unde - bias, quality if presentation.

TimeLady · 11/10/2018 08:11

I like the term 'womxyn'

jellyfrizz · 11/10/2018 08:13

Am I being thick? Since when did 'woman' exclude anyone but men?

^^This

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 11/10/2018 08:13

Racist middle aged white men. Oh what a surprise.
I have no regard for the BBC anymore, they can go fuck themselves.

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 08:15

You know, since the beeb clearly doesn't give a single fuck about women, maybe we should take a different approach. Sophie Cook said some seriously racist things in that segment. Does the beeb care about appearing racist, and if they do would that prevent them having Cook on again? We could find out.

LizzieSiddal · 11/10/2018 08:17

Sophie was rascist and the presenter did absolutely nothing to counter that.

LizzieSiddal · 11/10/2018 08:20

And so far this week (and it’s inky Thursday) the BBC have had

Thought For The day
BBC Breakfast piece on Butterfly
Newsnight

All discussing this issue and not a single GC voice.
And *Women’s Hour” won’t ecen discuss the Consultation.

We are being well and truly fucked by the BBC aren’t we?

LizzieSiddal · 11/10/2018 08:21

Excuse typos, I’m so cross.

GoldenWonderwall · 11/10/2018 08:27

BBC don’t pay market rates for staff so they get people who want the ‘prestige’ of working for the bbc or, their ‘commitment’ to a diverse workforce Grin Woke interns are literally making this shit up, perhaps they should stick to drama and forget trying to report nxws.

20nil · 11/10/2018 08:27

Totally shit but own goal I think. Certainly seems that way from what I’ve been hearing/reading this morning.

FlowersAndHerts · 11/10/2018 08:30

I've just watched the Newsnight piece, and was obviously outraged. But then, I did wonder if it's not a subtle way of the producers showing how ludicrous their guidelines are! It seemed almost satirical.

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 08:38

My DHs comment was "even the Pythons looked prettier in drag".

OvaHere · 11/10/2018 08:40

US journalist and vlogger, Tim Pool did a video on this last night. It's amusing for no other reason than watching him trying to pronounce womxn.

He's covered a few of these UK controversies now but tends to misunderstand the nuances and background of what is currently going on in this country by applying a US culture war lens to it. Both him and his commentators seem to think this is something being pushed by feminists which is not wholly accurate.

BesmirchingMotherhood · 11/10/2018 08:46

Sophie might not be white. She might self id as something else. Check your assumptions. ;)

Melamin · 11/10/2018 08:56

Presumably they could not find a woman who was not white to explain how the word woman excludes women of colour. (Or any woman who could possibly explain this Hmm )

Sophie, who ticks all boxes, could be a stand in for everything if the BBC can't find the appropriate person

museumum · 11/10/2018 08:59

Good call Wellcome. I hadn’t seen this until the apology but I applaud the apology.

breastfeedingclownfish · 11/10/2018 09:15

WTF was that? Women of colour not included in 'women'. Racist fucking bastard!

And seriously - this is the person who took a woman's place on a women only Labour Shortlist and on the women only Jo Cox Programme. I think they should get SC out more - they have uber peaking skills

And Sharon O must be wondering where the fuck Ozzy went last night

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 09:21

I'm confused, wasn't the Jo Cox programme meant to be aimed at young women just getting started in their field? Is Cook transaged too?

AngryAttackKittens · 11/10/2018 09:22

Poor Ozzy, he hasn't bitten the head off anything in years.

StaffiesAndPonies · 11/10/2018 09:22

Next it will be wxmxn, then wxmxx, then xxmxx, then xxxxx ... then a puff of smoke.
