Morrisons Discount for school staff

To think Morrisons are wrong to offer 10% discount to school staff from Monday? What about nursery staff, university staff, college staff, and all the other essential workers, who haven't been on full pay all through the pandemic. Never mind those who have lost their jobs and businesses.

I have seen this written about every gesture businesses have made during this pandemic.

Why does every nice thing have to be met with cries of "what about meeeeeee".

Lockheart Sat 31-Oct-20 13:32:06

Their shop, their rules.

They don't have to offer discounts to everyone.

CatsAndEyeliner Sat 31-Oct-20 13:33:04

So because they can’t help everyone they shouldn’t help anyone at all?

AcceptanceIsBliss Sat 31-Oct-20 13:34:39

Oh for gods sake, I don't begrudge any bloody discount to any group. Every time a shop does this somebody has a moan.

I find it really distasteful the "what about me" brigade. Let's just appreciate a business doing something nice for someone. They can't give everyone a discount or they would be out of business!

Beldon Sat 31-Oct-20 13:35:23

Every offer you could say ‘what about ...’. They can pick who they want to give discount to. Household of emergency service worker who has worked the whole time and at large risk and another who has been made redundant, so discount would be lovely but it’s not to be.

EdwardBear1920 Sat 31-Oct-20 13:35:41

I do a voluntary thing for group X. I am constantly being asked why I'm not doing it for group Y. Well, because I choose to do it for group X.

I'm definitely not going to stop working with group X because I don't work with group Y.

Instead of whinging about teachers getting 10% off their shopping at Morrison’s and it not being fair on everyone who isn’t a teacher, how about lobbying the government for better provision for those you feel are struggling financially?

SavoyCabbage Sat 31-Oct-20 13:36:36

Didn't one of the supermarkets offer a NHS discount previously? Maybe it was the Co-op.

Well I'd rather they made a generous donation to food banks and helped those who really need it.

Morrisons give 10% for NHS staff, not sure about other supermarkets.

Do we revert back to the "I'm a key worker" status if we go back in lockdown?

You'd think they would have consulted with you before making a kind gesture.

Audreyseyebrows Sat 31-Oct-20 13:40:05

Just to piss you off further I believe that they are still offering NHS discount. Sorry.

Fwiw I’ve barely used it because we got so much grief.

GlittercheeksOakleaf Sat 31-Oct-20 13:40:33

@SavoyCabbage Morrisons also offer 10% to NHS staff.

Lots of people who work in my local morrisons have school aged children. They were asked to work extra hours and many of them used keyworker provision in schools to enable them to work so maybe Morrisons just feel like saying thank you!

Childcare staff could argue they should get a discount but college and university students didn't need the keyworker provision in the same way younger pupils did so why should they get a thank you?

MeredithGreysScalpel Sat 31-Oct-20 13:41:16

Aw diddums.

Audreyseyebrows Sat 31-Oct-20 13:42:03

Teachers deserve way more than a 10% discount in a supermarket (they deserve bloody medals) but it’s a start.

CatsAndEyeliner Sat 31-Oct-20 13:42:33

You get on with campaigning for that then.

Halliehallie9828 Sat 31-Oct-20 13:43:17

Give over.... it’s a nice thing.

Everyone can’t stand missing out or they feel hard done by so it’s all WHAT ABOUT ME?!!

Sorry to burst your bitchy bubble. I already knew that and have no problem with it.

And ignoring the other staff in the school who earn significantly less than a teacher.

Audreyseyebrows Sat 31-Oct-20 13:45:47

How old are you? I already knew that nah nah
Get out of the wrong side of bed today op?

waitforitwaitforit Sat 31-Oct-20 13:46:27

Have you even read it? The discount also applied to university and nursery staff, as well as support and office staff in schools. There's little more frustrating than some eejit who gets on their high horse based on a tiny fraction of a story.
