It's day 23 and there are just 7 days of Dedicate left. Well done yogis for getting onto the mat in your own way and at your own pace. We’re here to support each other as we yoga to the end of Dedicate, through to Feb and beyond.

When I opened Youtube this morning this one - Yoga for strength - was the first video on the list. I think I might have done it before when I was still new to yoga with adriene so didn't appreciate the mandala flow and strength moves. But I really liked it and will do it again, I like the ones filmed outside although I am always jealous of the sunny settings.

I can now have my arm extended to the ground and other arm straight up in extended side angle, using my abs to hold me up (rather than elbow on the knee) and it feels so good.

quirkychick · 18/04/2019 09:14

Yesterday, I did the Shiva Rea Fire flow, which I usually dread as being hard work, but I think doing a lot of Erin's flows has helped as I didn't end up such a shaking, sweating mess at the end! It has a lot of planks and prostration pushups (from plank, lowering down), so I thought I'd give my wrists a break today and did Erin's wrist free balancing flow. I though I was getting a return of the dreaded plantar fasciitis, but instead have a weird pain on the side of my foot that I often get with a flare up of hamstring tendonitis, I must adjust my gait unconsciously. I thought a slower balancing flow would help stretch my hamstrings and feet, it was good and I managed half moon with a block without wobbling. AugustRose I did an extended side angle without my knee on my leg, too, my core must be getting stronger as well.

quirkychick · 18/04/2019 09:30

I meant to say, the balancing flow has helped and my foot feels loads better Smile.

quirkychick · 18/04/2019 09:32
  • extended side angle without my elbow on my leg, that should read.
AugustRose · 18/04/2019 09:36

Grin quirky I was going to say if you can get your knee on your leg you must be flexible!!

quirkychick · 18/04/2019 09:48

Grin I think I need more coffee this morning...

Spudlet · 18/04/2019 19:09

Did the deep core one just now - oooooh. I will so feel that tomorrow.

However, we did side plank in class the other day and I could lift one leg so I feel like I'm getting stronger and stronger, which is good.

At some point soon I will do the grief one - we're losing a very beloved family member at the moment, and although they are very elderly, it sucks. Saving that one for a very low day.

GreenHatHacker · 19/04/2019 09:52

I was pleased to find I can get my hand to floor in triangle pose this week, but hadn't thought to try extended side angle. Owing to my dodgy knee, I've always done that with my hand on a block so, inspired by quirkychick and augustrose I thought I'd see what I could do this morning. Delighted to find I can get my hand down too - not quite as open in the hip as I'd like, but that can be worked on.

So we're nearly 4 months into the year - still improving all the time and I find our 'gang' on here so inspiring for ideas and routines to try. I'm sure I wouldn't have been so successful without the thread :)

Spudlet · 19/04/2019 13:28

Ow. Ow. Ow. Grin

quirkychick · 19/04/2019 17:10

Is that after the deep core, spudlet? Flowers for you with your family member.

I tried the Ocean Balance Flow today, which was a nice follow on from Erin's hands-free balance yesterday. We went for a long walk in a country park this afternoon and combined with 2 days running of balance flows my glutes were crying out...

Greenhat well done on triangle without a block. I can manage hand on ankle but not floor yet. My hips are tight too, but less so than they were. Pyramid with your hands on the floor is tricky too, I need a small bend in my front leg usually, but today I managed to straighten it by bringing the back foot in a bit.

Spudlet · 19/04/2019 17:39

It is. Am feeling it a bit! Thank you for the flowers - it's a sad time, but we have a lot of happy, funny memories to hold onto as the sadness eases. It's pretty shit though, can't lie.

Did freestyle today as I was in the garden and DS always runs off with the iPad. Did some warriors and half sun salutations which seemed appropriate - it feels baking! It snowed on me last weekend, for goodness sake!

quirkychick · 19/04/2019 18:40

I know we had hail and sleet last weekend. I had to dig out the sunhat and suncream yesterday... crazy.

GreenHatHacker · 20/04/2019 09:07

Did the Five Parks Core this morning. Fun for all the different moves, but hard work & some things I'm not ready for yet - transition from downdog to boat or high/low boat... I'm just sitting in the best v-shape I can with all my wobbly bits shaking! Will be joining you in the 'ow ow' corner tomorrow, spud!

quirkychick · 20/04/2019 09:16

GreenHat I like the Five Parks core ones as they have lots of variety, but I don't have the strength (yet) to do all the jumping around from chair to boat etc. They certainly work you hard.

I went for restorative today with the Five Parks Neck & Shoulder tension release after a couple of days of balance poses, lots of walking and some arm weights yesterday. I do like this one, I've done the posture one too and might try one of the other neck and chest ones too.

AugustRose · 20/04/2019 11:49

I really like the Five Parks videos but they are hard. I did one this morning, 60 minute well rounded vinyasa flow, there were lots of tricky transitions so it didn't flow as well for me. Also, there must have been people practicing behind the camera so she kept disappearing and then it looked like she was talking to herself at times!

Spudlet · 21/04/2019 15:02

Been free styling over the weekend as I'm either outdoors with no WiFi, or indoors with DS who keeps changing the iPad to CBeebies Hmm Nice to do though and to have the confidence to do - I would never have just made my own flows up four months ago. I felt my wide legged forward fold while adjusting toddler sandals was a particularly good inclusion today Grin

Cherrypi · 21/04/2019 22:16

I liked rainbow yoga too. Just did the latest Adrienne yoga to feel your best. I really enjoyed it. Need to get back into daily practice. So did she just hire the building she did dedicate in then?

quirkychick · 22/04/2019 09:31

cherrypi I think she used her friends yoga studio for Dedicate, it may have been mentioned on the trailer for it.

I did the Five Parks Core pick me up, today. Omg, core triangle, side hip dips and standing straddle splits twist with no hands Shock. I may have collapsed in giggles in one of the side planks. I always start these thinking, this isn't too bad and then she adds to it! I'll feel this tomorrow or for a few days.

Cherrypi · 22/04/2019 10:08

Ah missed that. Thank you.

Iambuffy · 23/04/2019 10:25

Hi all
Awful Hayfever and Easter stuff have meant I've fallen off the yoga wagon a bit :(
Back on it today with yoga for a healthy body.
Some really nice stretches....I'll do this one again.

AugustRose · 23/04/2019 11:16

Oh hayfever Sad DH suffers terribly so I know how you feel, he's already on his nasal spray and eye drops as well as tablets.

I did step with lots of arm movement followed by gardening yesterday so my shoulders are killing me. I wanted a hands/shoulders free yoga today so tried this Five Parks one. It has longer holds of at least 3 breaths so you really feel those muscles working! I really should have goddess thighs by now but definitely haven't Grin

quirkychick · 23/04/2019 11:30

That one looks good, AugustRose, I did one of her other wrist free ones the other day and my legs could definitely feel it! I would recommend the Five Parks Love Your Legs that I did this morning after yesterday's Core Pick me up lots of boat, bicycles and standing poses. My legs have been working hard and needed a good stretch.

Iambuffy · 25/04/2019 07:52

Ugh
Another night of no sleep :(
I'm doing 11min morning yoga from yesterday as it's my busy day today...

quirkychick · 25/04/2019 13:21

Flowers lambuffy.

Yesterday, I did the Five Parks Power Yoga and needed to rest quite a few times Grin. Today I did a short Five Parks hamstring one.

Iambuffy · 25/04/2019 13:23

I havent looked at any of the 5 park ones...
