I have not really prepped at all. Tried to search the net for the questions and examples how to answer them. I heard the star method is to be used but how can that be used for hypothetical questions? Some categories seem to overlap in the 3 categories. I have only had a few interviews in my life and even though its just a pre-recorded one feel like I will freeze and may not even do it as I only have 1 day left. They only give you 3 days to take the interview.

bluelefant · 28/11/2020 19:01

I am in a very similar position to you @Jayne777777 I mean I have been in the same job for the past 15 years and was made redundant in August although I do have a strong customer service background.
I've never been job hunting before!
Good luck and let me know how you got on.

Jayne777777 · 28/11/2020 21:18

bluelefant I wish someone who has done it in November could state the questions that were asked and how they answered them? I am too nervous and cant think of anything at the moment. Havent written down any questions or answers. I cant think straight interview on Monday morning latest :(

Jayne777777 · 28/11/2020 21:19

I may not even do the interview. I am being made redundant as well and have suffered from depression over the last year after a marriage breakdown and separation to come.

Parsley1234 · 29/11/2020 21:32

Don’t overthink it is my advice I did it on a wed am at 6am before getting on a flight I didn’t prep atall and still got offered. my sons dad thought he messed up but got offered the next day

Jayne777777 · 30/11/2020 09:21

Parseley I hardly have much experience. I have decided not to do it. I was getting anxious and only prepared 2 or 3 simple answers If you didnt prep and still got offered a job you are probably a very confident person and had experience from other roles.

I am going to do my telephone interview on Saturday so I will advise what questions I am asked if it helps anyone. I am currently a Civil Servant, I am have been through a couple of these interviews before but never a pre-recorded video interview. I don't have much time to prepare but the way I see it if I don't get it it will be good experience for me!

Parsley1234 · 03/12/2020 18:25

@Jayne777777 I am confident but seriously google civil service jobs and interview techniques they literally hand it to you on a plate go for it it’s a great opportunity

Asvan · 04/12/2020 22:37

I have got an invite for a video interview which I have to do by Monday. Any advice or guidance on how to prepare would be appreciated.

Hi how did your interview go? I'm hoping to do mine tomorrow so any help or advice would be great.

I completed my interview today and found it horrific tbh. I’d done tons of preparation and had a lot of notes but the questions threw me off as they weren’t what I was expecting. I’d used some examples from this thread and I got none of those questions. I’d just advise to study the 3 behaviours they are looking for and try to make mental notes of how you would perform or react within the role to a number of situations. I don’t think I did very well at all, but I gather that’s how most people feel so I’m trying not to be too hard on myself. Good luck

I'm so sorry to hear that it didn't go as well as expected but I'm sure you have done better than you think. I'm doing mine this evening and have done some prep work but as you say it depends what questions they ask on each behaviour.

I'm doing my interview today. I'm already a civil servant, have done this interview before but didn't get the job. I don't know what they're going to ask me, can't even remember what competencies they need.
I hate doing remote interviews 😔

Good luck everyone.

Hello all,
I had my VI last Thursday, I had prepared loads, lots of research and the questions I seen on here and another forum didn't come up at all for e.g How do you make an effective decision, or a time you delivered great customer service.

From what I remember (I didn't have time to write the questions down in the 1 min prep) but they were paragraphs, scenario type questions, not what I expected but do in general cover each of the 3 behaviors, 2 questions on each. So basically have 2 answers or maybe more to answer. Also ensure you have read the Civil Service 'Success Profiles' for each behavior to answer your question using the STAR format. The VI itself it very easy to follow. I'm not sure how I did but I know I did my best.
Good luck everyone :)

bluelefant · 06/12/2020 12:57

I submitted my interview last Sunday and still awaiting the result.
Immediately after recording I thought I've done pretty well and now the longer I wait the more I start doubting myself...

Namechanged1122 · 06/12/2020 13:32

Well, I messed it up royally. I Stopped half way through. Froze on a question . Oh well. Feel like crying now

Namechanged1122 · 06/12/2020 13:41

I was so nervous. I just can't do interviews at home 😔

Louise2288 · 06/12/2020 15:02

The 3 minutes does go quick tbh. I know i went on beyound on 1 or 2 answers with a word or 2 and it just stops :)

Keeping my fingers crossed for us all (",)

Asvan · 07/12/2020 10:21

Hi everyone,

I've just had my interview. I had done lots of prep beforehand but some questions really threw me off! I just waffled on and on when it came to questions that I had no idea on how to answer and because you get a 3 minute window to answer I felt I had to fill the time and kept repeating things.

Has anyone heard back from the interview yet? I'm not feeling very hopeful at all.

bluelefant · 07/12/2020 16:03

Unfortunately it was a NO for me.Got my answer today 😐

Asvan · 07/12/2020 17:00

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that.

I'm not holding out much hope either. All I did was waffle and repeat myself over and over again.

Fluffmonkey82 · 08/12/2020 19:46

Asvan, interview didn't go well unfortunately, I got to the second question and froze so didn't continue! I thought that would be it but they sent me a text message reminding me to complete it! I ended up withdrawing my application as I just hadn't had enough time to prepare, completed the application and decided to do the interview on the Friday. The two questions I did get asked where 'Can you tell me a time when you have had to communicate an important message to other people' and 'Tell me a time you have had to deliver a quality service'. The first question I answered in about 30 seconds so I knew I had blown it! I would say to anyone who got a no remember it is all good experience, I currently work in the Civil Service and there are lots of good jobs advertised, I have just applied for another one but hoping I have more time to prepare for it!

Fluffmonkey82 · 08/12/2020 19:51

Good luck Asvan, bluelefant and Louise, the Civil Service is a great employer, very family friendly employer and has a great Sports and Social Club!

Louise2288 · 08/12/2020 20:32

Hey all, I'm still waiting for a yes or no from VI on 3rd Dec. Only 21 vacancies in the area I applied for. I hope they advertise in my own area again as its more closer. Fingers crossed for us. 😁 and definitely yes, I'm glad I've done the interview and will had the experience if anything 👍.

Peg119 · 09/12/2020 11:48

Hello. I completed my interview on Monday and havn’t heard anything yet. I completed the interview in September and found out the next day it was a no. Anyone else heard?
