Hi. How did your interview go? I have been invited to do one, and advice ? Thanks

Athenajm80 · 08/08/2020 22:37

Is it still a competency based application? If so, the interview is purely asking you about the situation in which you displayed each competency. The interviewers can often ask further questions to help you demonstrate more of the competency if that makes any sense? I came out of one interview convinced I'd ballsed it up cause they asked loads of questions, only to find I scored highly.

Just relax, read through your competencies (unless you're good at thinking on your feet), some colleagues took notes into their interview with them.

Ishy20 · 08/08/2020 23:11

Yes it is.
They are:
Managing a quality service
Communicating and influencing
Making Effective Decisions

I’m just wondering on the video interview do they make it obvious in their question which behaviour they are wanting you to reply to?

And as it’s a blended interview any idea what kind of strength questions they will ask?

It’s the first time I’ve gone through this kind of process so I want to be as prepared as I can be. I’ve read all of the DWP info that they have sent any previous candidate advice would be really helpful. Thanks

I had mine on Friday. Here are My questions
Can you tell me a time when you have had to communicate important message to other people.
Tell me a time you have had to deliver a quality service
Tell me a time you have had to make important decision
How would you adapt your communication to someone who is struggling to understand
How would you ensure your judgement is right
Would people describe you as making good decision

Wow that’s really helpful. I fully expected they wouldn’t ask 3 behaviour questions in an obvious way.
The judgment examples are really useful aswell. I’m trying to look at lots of different questions.
How did you find it? Were you nervous ?

@olaK did you have to give examples for the last 3? Or was it just about YOU?
OlaK · 09/08/2020 16:17

Not nervous but I could have done better. I have another one that is due by Thursday, hopefully that will be better for me.
What I did was to record my session on phone. But remember to put your phone on silent and mute notifications.
When are you having yours. Can you update me when you've done it?

Ishy20 · 09/08/2020 18:22

Hi. I need to do mine before Friday. Just preparing my notes and going over my behaviours, I don’t want to sound too robotic as if I’ve memorised my script.
I take it you are applying for two different areas?
Yes I will certainly update you when I’ve done mine. I need to try and relax but it’s difficult when you haven’t done this kind of interview before x

Ishy20 · 10/08/2020 20:34

Hi. I’ve just done my interview. Strength questions as you. Found it difficult condensing my experiences into just 3 minutes, I definitely need to work on this. Fingers crossed but I know I could have done better.

Raintonrebel · 10/08/2020 20:50

I spent all day yesterday doing some prep, and I have pages of examples and now I have no idea how I am going to condense each example into 3 minutes... Talk really REALLY fast?!

Ishy20 · 10/08/2020 21:00

I was exactly the same did loads of prep and struggle to get it into 3 minutes as it just doesn’t flow right. You need to provide back ground etc... hey ho! Will know for next time !

Raintonrebel · 11/08/2020 15:08

Well THAT was fairly horrific..... wouldnt be at all surprised if thats a no!

Ishy20 · 11/08/2020 15:52

Fingers crossed for us all 🤞

Ishy20 · 13/08/2020 13:42

So how long do you think we will have to wait till we find out?

Raintonrebel · 13/08/2020 13:59

I think I just need putting out of my misery sooner rather than later. I am still fully expecting a NO. I listened back to my interview and just cringed!

Ishy20 · 13/08/2020 14:29

You were brave ! I daren’t!😂

AJ1510 · 13/08/2020 14:37

I’ve just done mine! Totally gutted as I couldn’t get it to flow so missed out so much on my capabilities. Horrendous 😭

Raintonrebel · 13/08/2020 14:50

Yeh mine didnt flow right either despite making notes and reading them umpteen times! I just kinda jumped all over the place :(

AJ1510 · 13/08/2020 15:19

I think I prefer the old interviewing process. The interviewer can see you personally and it’s easier to adjust things in real time if that makes sense. How did you rewatch yours? Xx

Raintonrebel · 13/08/2020 15:35

I recorded it on my phone when I was doing it, so can only listen to it but thats bad enough hahaha!!
Yes I much prefer seeing someone in person. You can't gauge someones personality or body language really if its through a video. I wouldnt have a problem doing a face to face interview as long as they were the other side of the room! My mate works for the DWP and he said they had to do it this way as they had so many applications. I went for Washington and then Newcastle as my choices. 3000 applications for 200 jobs so we must have done something right!

WCoach · 13/08/2020 15:38

Good luck everyone. I've been work coach for 18 months and it's a brilliant job. I absolutely love it. It can be hard work sometimes but so worthwhile.

AJ1510 · 13/08/2020 16:32

Well all we can do now is hope for the best 😂
Hopefully if we don’t get it this time then we may get popped into the reserve list.
I put Newcastle then Washington. Good luck to all of us 🤞🤞
