Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort.

Seven blankets already with women on the rocky road of cancer treatment in Candy's name. Love in every stitch we say and it really is true. Together we go on, Candy is with us every step. Star

For anyone joining us, and please do, this is an ongoing project, just jump right in, this explains what we are doing and all crafting info. Thank you EVERYONE! x

Just before Christmas, Zombie donated funds to Woolly Hugs and together we hatched a plan to develop an ongoing project with her, which she loved, to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care.

So glad we could establish Candy's Hugs with her and thanks to you wonderful people achieve her ambition of seeing it all well underway before her death. Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of friendship, learning and developing crafting skills, of creativity, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort, Such a beautiful inspirational woman. How lucky we were to know her. Wine

Anyone seeing this project for the first time, wondering about joining in, make this the day you do! This project is ongoing, and a friendlier more supportive bunch of folk you couldn’t wish to meet. We would love to have you on board, from someone who is keen to learn crochet or knitting to the more experienced, ALL are welcome here. And a lack of funds is no barrier, we have wonderful donors who want to take part and need a crafter, so we can send you yarn, needles and hooks if necessary. It is all about being inclusive and team work.

Our previous threads are the first one here and the second one here.. and third here

We are keeping a photo album on our Facebook page.]] All welcome to join us over there too. Thanks

Zombie was a bright and beautiful woman so we chose a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give hugs and comfort as she went through treatment. She had it with her at the end, we were so glad to know it still gave her love, big woolly hugs and comfort.

If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, let's do it! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And all on this thread are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our next collection date is March 11th, then April 22nd. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch. ALL welcome over there.

Thank you so much Thanks

TheoriginalLEM · 28/02/2017 14:43

Zing that square is jaw droppingly beautiful! I love the colours

VittysCardigan · 28/02/2017 14:45

That is gorgeous Zing!

CraftyGirly90 · 28/02/2017 14:49

Oh Chipping I love LOVE David Tennant, I think its the accent. Sadly I have yet to watch broadchurch, shocking I know. Does anyone have any links to crochet squares that aren't too basic but not granny squares?

After my work day this morning, sitting down with some lovely Candy's hugs wool, my crochet hook and a nice cup of tea is just what I need. That and the company of all you lovely, amazing, supportive people x

SpiralArchitect · 28/02/2017 15:30

Zing that's beautiful!

Yiayoula · 28/02/2017 16:01

Fabulous Firenze square , Zing ! - proper dazzling viewed through my brand new specs : Chipping , am pleased to report DT looks even more handsome now I can see him clearly.
Sadly, the reverse is true for my squares.......Shock

WitchDancer · 28/02/2017 16:13

Those squares are so beautiful! Mine are definitely a contrast of dull Blush

Does anyone want some more knitting patterns?

stephiehelen · 28/02/2017 16:20

Oh yes please to the knitting patterns. There are loads of crochet patterns but few knitting ones. I have bought a hook to try crochet but I simply can't get on with it. Knitting sooooo much easier

Spindelina · 28/02/2017 16:32

stephie I'm doing the first square from this for Chernobyl.

As written, it's coming out at about 10" wide, so I'm going to do an extra pattern repeat and then add some crochet down the sides. But if and when I get round to doing another one, I'll add either an extra pattern repeat (depending on the pattern - the first one would lend itself to another zigzag) or a bit more reverse stocking stitch to make it wider.

WitchDancer · 28/02/2017 16:35

Stocking stitch triangles - classification easy

Something classified as hard - the Nosegay stitch. Not one that I've done yet but I think it looks great

Doh, sorry Knotty Blush

MadisonAvenue · 28/02/2017 17:57

Nerr they look lovely! Is that a flower on the one on the right?

Zing that really is beautiful

Crafty I haven't watched Broadchurch either. My husband sat in the downstairs living room to watch it last night whilst our youngest son and myself watched football in the main living room.

::swoon:: at yarn pics.

I have a soft spot for lovely Roger Allam (sp?) so Sarah and Duck is always welcome.

VittysCardigan · 28/02/2017 18:58

I love Roger Allam - such a sexy voice, I may have to track down Sarah & Duck even though my children are too old for it

Yiayoula · 28/02/2017 18:59

Ooooh , Vitty , that is one heck of a wool stash < making no comparisons to Scarf lady pic above, no, not me>

NerrSnerr · 28/02/2017 19:19

Thanks Madison, it is a flower indeed. Have been experimenting with different designs. Chipping I'm off with sickness so knitting takes my mind off the constant nausea.

I love seeing the crochet, I need to teach myself one day. Would love to crochet a blanket one day.

scalliondays · 28/02/2017 20:18

Hope you feel better soon NerrSnerr - crocheting a blanket would be lovely. Have you seen the blankets on the Attic24 site? I only recently discovered the idea of a 'crochet along' where you get the wool pack and start crocheting to tutorials on a given date - how good would that be!

P1nkP0ppy · 28/02/2017 20:23

Four squares completed so far only 16 balls of yarn to use up 😀
