Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort.

Seven blankets already with women on the rocky road of cancer treatment in Candy's name. Love in every stitch we say and it really is true. Together we go on, Candy is with us every step. Star

For anyone joining us, and please do, this is an ongoing project, just jump right in, this explains what we are doing and all crafting info. Thank you EVERYONE! x

Just before Christmas, Zombie donated funds to Woolly Hugs and together we hatched a plan to develop an ongoing project with her, which she loved, to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care.

So glad we could establish Candy's Hugs with her and thanks to you wonderful people achieve her ambition of seeing it all well underway before her death. Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of friendship, learning and developing crafting skills, of creativity, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort, Such a beautiful inspirational woman. How lucky we were to know her. Wine

Anyone seeing this project for the first time, wondering about joining in, make this the day you do! This project is ongoing, and a friendlier more supportive bunch of folk you couldn’t wish to meet. We would love to have you on board, from someone who is keen to learn crochet or knitting to the more experienced, ALL are welcome here. And a lack of funds is no barrier, we have wonderful donors who want to take part and need a crafter, so we can send you yarn, needles and hooks if necessary. It is all about being inclusive and team work.

Our previous threads are the first one here and the second one here.. and third here

We are keeping a photo album on our Facebook page.]] All welcome to join us over there too. Thanks

Zombie was a bright and beautiful woman so we chose a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give hugs and comfort as she went through treatment. She had it with her at the end, we were so glad to know it still gave her love, big woolly hugs and comfort.

If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, let's do it! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And all on this thread are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our next collection date is March 11th, then April 22nd. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch. ALL welcome over there.

Thank you so much Thanks

Thanks folks! It was pretty easy to do once I got going. Keeping everything from tangling was the hardest part. I might make a bigger one next time...

FurryLittleTwerp · 28/02/2017 00:16

I love all the C2C squares!

I haven't tried one yet.

Jux · 28/02/2017 00:57

Furry brilliant !!! Well done that woman! 🍭🥃👏🍾

I am strangely attracted to c2c, but also rather scared of it...

Lucysdiamonds · 28/02/2017 02:30

Sorry I've been very quiet .. We've not been well the last few weeks. But I'm on my 5th knitted square. I haven't read all the threads .. when and where do I send them?

Lucysdiamonds · 28/02/2017 02:36

I'm very slow .. pukey bugs and ill child plus a visit to mum getting in the way of knitting, but I'll crack on now. I'm Akzo going to try the youtube crocheting tutorials .. I used to be able to crochet a square but have forgotten how.

HappyAxolotyl · 28/02/2017 06:35

Furry and LEM those squares are great! Two more things for me to try.

I can't believe how obsessed I am. I learnt how to (basic) crochet many years ago, and although I enjoyed it I didn't love it as I do now.

I think the internet has made a difference. In the old days you could only go to a shop and buy a pattern. Now you can look at thousands of patterns online, and see them made up in different colours (who knew one pattern could look so different?!) and in different wools, and if you get stuck you can watch tutorials, and see what others have made. Love it! Smile
much better than RL at the moment.

WitchDancer · 28/02/2017 07:56

Lucy if you message Knotty then she'll let you have the address. There is a deadline, which I have forgotten right now, but if you miss it they'll always be a later one.

I'm afraid I've been rather boring and lazy with my squares this week, just going plain garter stitch. I was doing one in lipstick last night and couldn't help but think of Candy - it's definitely her colour!

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 28/02/2017 08:54

Yarn Pushers Grin I'm imagining some shifty looking person (wearing rather nice knitwear) standing in an alleyway "Psst, need yarn? I've got some good shit, plenty of colours SPECIAL dk" Wink

Furry that looks proper complicated! think I'll just stick to C2C for now (mind you, I've just 'finished' a 12" square that somehow has become a rectangle so I'm going to have to frog it back to where I went wrong later)

Morning Brew

Some of you need to visit The Optician. David Tennant....Good Grief. Not even with yours.

Sorry, not much time to chat this morning either :(. Bloody demanding Other Life. Grrr.

Lucy. Hope you're both feeling better soon 💐🍫

CraftyGirl. Seriously, watch the tutorials. Try something & if a bit of it doesn't make sense or you can't see what's happening, find another tutorial on the same thing by someone else. Some of it's a bit confusing at first, but if you just keep trying & rewinding & trying again, once you 'get it' it's easy enough. Honestly.

JUX. It took me a while to 'get it' (that's what happens when you start at 3am!) but I watched a couple of videos by other people & it just clicked. It's so hard when you don't know what you're looking for. I realised that my piece had been turning around and as I didn't know what stitch I was looking to go into, I had'nt realised. Once you get that bit, it's SUPER easy to do & no pattern needed - handy when out & about!

SevenTillFour · 28/02/2017 10:33

Morning all Brew
Can't quite believe that I went EARLY to the DENTIST this morning in order to cast on another square. It was blooming freezing, but at least it felt like I was achieving something other that nerves!!
Chipping thanks for the encouragement to try bamboo - they're good, and especially so that they can be quietly shoved in the desk drawer when necessary Wink

HappyAxolotyl · 28/02/2017 10:35

Thanks for the link to the pattern Furry.
Glad I've managed it, but didn't find it very relaxing having to keep untangling all the time.
It's good to try new things though.

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 28/02/2017 10:36

KnittingSister 🎖Congratulations on delurking! Welcome 😊

Axolotyl. Sorry to hear RL isn't too good. Hope it's just the annoying crap life throws at us, nothing too bad?! Let us know if you want to start a thread about it, or PM x

HatOfDoom. Join me! (You'll have to catch up with your ends first). I'm challenging myself to earn my 😇, as bookbook has one & do my ends as I go!

LEM. I tried to do a 12" CTC, but I'd seriously had enough of it by 6" 😫 love you colour choices in your stripes.

Raptorina. I was so bored doing CTC yesterday that I'd switched off, when I looked at it I had a row of tiny rectangles 😳 I realised I'd started doing hdc as I'd been doing on another piece earlier...out came the frog...

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 28/02/2017 10:43

SevenTillFour. I'm getting to the school pick up spot earlier & earlier (we live 11 miles away, so can't walk, no I'm not annoying any neighbours, leaving the car running or anywhere near corners, yellow lines, or blind spots. After recent threads I feel I need to point this out 😂 ). Suspiciously I just happen to have some crochet to do. If I get there any earlier, I might as well stay after drop off 😂 I'm glad you like the bamboos!

Axolotyl. I LOVE your colour combo. The tangling is a pita. I looked like I was in a very colour spiders web when the neighbour knocked on my window a couple of weeks ago. She was beside herself laughing at me trying to get out from underneath it. Hmm 😂

BigApple11 · 28/02/2017 10:52

Morning all, I have been absent due to, ahem, HAVING TO WORK ON OTHER CROCHET SHIZZLE rolls eyes several times but I couldn't stay away for long! Thanks k&p for sending me some lovely yarn ...I'm afraid i was forced to order some more balls from wool warehouse too Grin(DH did not even notice )

Currently in bed feeling sorry for myself (am riddled with cold) so am hooking more candy squares.

Am loving all the pics. Keep on y'all xx

FurryLittleTwerp · 28/02/2017 11:01

That looks great, Happy - yours is less wonky than mine Grin

I'm currently deciding whether doing a 12" spiral would drive me absolutely nuts, or whether just to do it!

Yiayoula · 28/02/2017 11:09

Axolotyl , that square, and the colours in it, remind me of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, in a good way !
ChippingIn we will have to agree to differ re DT, though somewhat spookily I have an opticians appointment this very morning : may be looking at him with new eyes ( well, lenses) next Monday night.
Beautiful rainbow, LEM

Yiayoula · 28/02/2017 11:13

Morning, Knotty and Pistey Brew and may I also suggest Cake ?
It's elevenses time , after all ! xx

NerrSnerr · 28/02/2017 11:23

Morning all. I have managed to get my first load of squares done. I'm also doing some refugee squares and some of my own Baby Knitting so keeping busy. My baby is coming in about 6 weeks and am on enforced rest so keeping busy with my knitting needles.

These are my squares so far, I'm not the tidiest knitter but I think they're getting better.

HappyAxolotyl · 28/02/2017 11:32

Furry, it would be heroic if you were to do a 12" version!

Yiayoula, I see what you mean about The Very Hungry Caterpillar!
In truth, the only reason I chose those colours was so I could see where I was going.

Chipping, I could write a book about all the heavy stuff I'm juggling with at the moment. The crochet is really helping; it's nice to be able to see what you've achieved in a day.
Just looked to see what I've posted under this name (not a lot) but realised someone else has my name! Apart from one letter!! Now wondering which of us came first. Ooh err!

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 28/02/2017 13:19

BigApple. Sorry to hear you have the lurgy 🥃💐 but at least there's a crocheted silver lining!

Furry. I've started two spirals. I'm going to make myself do one as a 12". If it's not too painful I'll do the other as a 12" too. It's not difficult, I just find it boring (anything in a 12" that's repetitive) but it's less hooking for the Construction Crew, so I'll try to persevere. I'm doing some that are smaller squares inside a bigger square to make them 12".

Yia. Oh ok...there's still hope for you then 😂

NerrSnerr. I'm sure they're lovely 😊 I hope you're not too uncomfortable during your enforced rest.

Axolotyl. It's annoying when you find that someone else has the same name (bar one damn letter!). Most people are just fine if you PM & try to work something out. Really sorry to hear you have 'heavy stuff' going on (I'll go & catch up in a minute). I'm glad the crochet is helping a bit though, it's quite therapeutic & yes, lovely to see something finished. I think it really helps to chat here & to be doing something 'good' as part of a group - good for the soul x

Pistey
There are 3 squares for Candy's Hugs in the bunch you got on Friday. I hope you found them.

Can't help but show off the Firenze square (paid pattern), I'm planning to make a few more!
