We knew her time left with us was short, but the news of Zombie’s death on January 30th was still a sad shock, we send so much love to her family and her many, many friends who love and will miss her greatly, we hold our happy memories of her very dear. Bless her.

Just before Christmas, Zombie donated funds to Woolly Hugs and together we hatched a plan to develop an ongoing project with her, which she loved, to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care.

So glad we could establish Candy's Hugs with her and thanks to you wonderful people achieve her ambition of seeing it all well underway before her death. Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of friendship, learning and developing crafting skills, of creativity, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort, Such a beautiful inspirational woman. How lucky we were to know her. X

Raising a glass or two to the fabulous Zombie, we go on together Wine

Anyone seeing this project for the first time, wondering about joining in, make this the day you do! This project is ongoing, and a friendlier more supportive bunch of folk you couldn’t wish to meet. We would love to have you on board, from someone who is keen to learn crochet or knitting to the more experienced, ALL are welcome here. And a lack of funds is no barrier, we have wonderful donors who want to take part and need a crafter, so we can send you yarn, needles and hooks if necessary. It is all about being inclusive and team work.

Our previous threads are the first one here and the second one here..

We are keeping a photo album on our Facebook page.]] All welcome to join us over there too. Thanks

Zombie was a bright and beautiful woman so we chose a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her as she went through treatment. She had it with her at the end, we were so glad to know it still gave her love, big woolly hugs and comfort.

If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, let's do it! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And all on this thread are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our next collection date is March 11th, then April 22nd. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch. All welcome over there.

Thank you so much xx

Ptero - that face! I think I'm in love

CraftyGirly90 · 22/02/2017 23:10

Mrs H can you get me the link for the pinboard please?

I'm loving the idea of a log cabin Woolly Retreat. Definitely the masseuse. Let me know when and where we're going Wink x

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 22/02/2017 23:16

Maybe we could do a timeshare on the guinea pigs? They offer a very effect salad disposal service and lawn mowing duties.

A plain granny from me today. When I started it took me 2 days to do one granny now I can do one in an evening after the DC have gone to bed.

WitchDancer · 22/02/2017 23:34

I can supply Guineas and cats if that helps?

CraftyGirly90 · 22/02/2017 23:44

Mrs H that looks absolutely perfect. I love all the yarn rooms. Where do I sign? X

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 23/02/2017 00:31

Witch the Chef & Waiter were in an earlier post. Pastry chef too I feel.
Yes, it would help if you brought Guinea Pigs

Marcipex. It will be lovely, make yourself comfy 😊

MrsH 😳🐄. I'm veggie so your DH is more than welcome to keep his steak 😬 But you'll need to be vigilant around your brocolli, I love brocolli!

A mile. That's walkable. I was thinking more like 100 10 or so...Or, maybe, we keep the cute, fun, helpful, doting ones maybe - have to consider this bit further I think.

Chaz. Time share...yeah, that sounds reasonable enough.

Craftygirly consider yourself signed up 😊

diamantegal · 23/02/2017 00:31

pterobore I love gingers! This was the son of my current cat - sadly died at Christmas but he was the must pathetic cuddly cat you've ever met. He'd have loved a woolly retreat, as long as there was plenty of human food and laps to sit on.

Anyway, back onto crochet, I did most of a 2 hook pattern tonight . It's not actually the must impressive of pattern, but I now know how to do a cluster stitch - picture to follow when I've finished tomorrow. Amazing how quickly you can pick these things up.

DP is full of cold, feeling sorry for himself and headed off to the spare room.

The right thing to do at midnight would be to get some sleep.

The slightly bonkers thing to do would be to go downstairs, bring yarn and a crochet hook back to now vacant bed and decide to try to follow a C2C tutorial for the first time.

But I completed it! And it looks ok! SmileSmileSmile

(Now to find a guinea pig to bring to the woolly retreat...)

AmethystRaven · 23/02/2017 07:23

SevenTillFour that would do the job! Bit more wool about the place, gin, cake, tea - ideal. Bagsy the big wooden four poster bed though Wink Dreamy.

Now back to reality and a lovely stormy school run (not too bad though as we're Midlands - stay safe northerners!)

Marcipex · 23/02/2017 07:53

Brew all round, as there is no sign of that waiter.

Spindelina · 23/02/2017 07:54

Is it heresy to suggest a sewing room and haberdashery?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 23/02/2017 07:58

Definitely need a sewing room and haberdashery, a bit of quilting in between knitting would work well for me

SevenTillFour · 23/02/2017 08:04

Definitely haberdashery, and Cake, but not necessarily at the same time!

Yiayoula · 23/02/2017 08:08

Morning all ! Brew - busy day today but will be keeping the vision of the Woolly Retreat in my head to get through it.
Witch , I misread your post and thought you were bringing Guinness and cats....
Rain and wind calming down here in the wickedwickedwildwildWest , Thank goodness - waves to ChippingIn - have a good day everyone.

AmethystRaven · 23/02/2017 08:33

I also thought Witch was bringing Guinness Blush Wonder what that says about us Yiayoula?!

VittysCardigan · 23/02/2017 08:40

I also read Guinness Smile

bookbook · 23/02/2017 08:41

Morning!
very windy , but bright skies here in East Yorkshire
A very necessary whizz around the housework, then I can spend the afternoon knitting , may even do some crotchet :)
Hardest thing is deciding which pattern and which colour....
I second a sewing room ! The utter joy of being able to leave unfinished work out at the end of the day, rather than having to pack it all away Grin.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 23/02/2017 08:58

Morning! Grin

I love that expression Pterobore my cats only ever look cute if they want feeding Wink

Mine tend to look quite aloof (here is the eldest, modelling some of DD's GCSE Art coursework)

I'm waiting on more wool (should come tomorrow) in the meantime I'm learning the shell pattern. It's looking like the picture (always a bonus) but I had to frog it back and start again as it came out at 7.5 inches.

SevenTillFour · 23/02/2017 09:51

Here's the other side. I thought it might help me choosing colours that go together.

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 23/02/2017 09:51

🤣 I read Guinness as well! Right bunch of piss heads we are 😂

SevenTillFour. I was going to do the pegs too, but decided instead to knit or crochet some squares. In the meantime I've been very good about tying bits of wool to the labels until I get sorted! The thought of trying to remember which purply colour was which was giving me palpitations!

Salad. Mine might have been started around the same time 😁 Self control 'zero'

Two hook pattern you say Duamantegal....

Sewing/haberdashery room too
