We knew her time left with us was short, but the news of Zombie’s death on January 30th was still a sad shock, we send so much love to her family and her many, many friends who love and will miss her greatly, we hold our happy memories of her very dear. Bless her.

Just before Christmas, Zombie donated funds to Woolly Hugs and together we hatched a plan to develop an ongoing project with her, which she loved, to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care.

So glad we could establish Candy's Hugs with her and thanks to you wonderful people achieve her ambition of seeing it all well underway before her death. Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of friendship, learning and developing crafting skills, of creativity, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort, Such a beautiful inspirational woman. How lucky we were to know her. X

Anyone seeing this project for the first time, wondering about joining in, make this the day you do! This project is ongoing, and a friendlier more supportive bunch of folk you couldn’t wish to meet. We would love to have you on board, from someone who is keen to learn crochet or knitting to the more experienced, ALL are welcome here. And a lack of funds is no barrier, we have wonderful donors who want to take part and need a crafter, so we can send you yarn, needles and hooks if necessary. It is all about being inclusive and team work.

Zombie was a bright and beautiful woman so we chose a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her as she went through treatment. She had it with her at the end, we were so glad to know it still gave her love, big woolly hugs and comfort.

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, let's do it! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And all on this thread are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our next collection date is March 11th, then April 22nd. Do message for posting info when ready.

Vitty that is my idea of heaven. I can't have a cat because Dp is allergic and i have two dogs. Luckily i work with cats but most of the cats i see are angry and or frightened i have the scars to prove it and nit too amenable to cuddles.

LEM I can lend you mine. Although she's not too helpful if you want to actually do any work. Although she did manage to spell check my spreadsheet for me.

She's also on my knee at the moment and getting very annoyed with the fact she's got wool draped over her. So some of my squares may have slightly chewed bits. I don't think you can tell...

Only had time for one square tonight ,( in Plum) but I did do some practise on c2c squares with some old DK wool from my store while out. I shall pop that in to the refugee appeal. I am really liking how quick it grows .

Yes to 'the look' Mrs H has posted, the masseur, the barman, the hot tub etc etc. Coastal in summer, mountains in winter. Log fires in both ALL the good things!!

Wool Room - big white room with loads of white shelves, Stylecraft in various arrangements. Candy's Hugs, Chernobyl, beautiful supersoft baby wool for the baby projects etc All the options fir the Induvidual bkankets, we will not want for yarn/wool. Sea views, comfy chairs, cold drinks fridge, coffee machine etc.

Yiayoula. No, but I love the Cotswolds - presuming that's what you meant?! I lurked on MN. For about 4.5 minutes before I HAD to say something on a thread! I couldn't think of a better name at the time than 'Chipping in' & figured I could change it later. Except, back in those days, when it were all fields around here, people got to know each other quite well & quite quickly (there weren't that many of us regular posters) & it just became 'me'. I posted under this name with various endings for years, never properly name changing (except one or two very personal health worries), until we were hacked. Now on the main boards I name change a lot because of the Dayly Male. Wankers. I hate it, I prefer to just be me. CI.

Amethyst. I've never had a bamboo needle split on me, mine are just the basic 'Pony' ones. I couldn't go back to metal, I had to use some to help out a friend the other day (I was at hers and didn't have my needles), it really reminded me just how much I love my bamboos. Let us know what yarn you buy 😁

I wondered about that, Chipping. I suppose there could be a DC and OH annexe a mile or so away. A few fully qualified activity leaders (I'm thinking ranging from nursery nurse types to forest ranger types to street dance instructors) to keep the DC busy, good fibre broadband, all the telly channels, and catering less along the fiddly buffet stuff I pinned kind of like and more, erm, beige/brown.

DH rang from Forrin earlier (business). He ordered steak in a restaurant and got ... a plate with cow on it. No accompaniments included or expected. He wasn't disappointed. Meanwhile chez Hath I was today heard to exclaim "ooh hasn't this broccoli come out well?"

By the way, I reckon Zombie would have heartily approved of a Woolly Retreat. Chin chin!
