With heavy hearts we bring the desperately sad news that My5boysandme has lost her precious baby son Dexter. We have offered to make the family a blanket, and hope it may give whatever comfort it can to them. We are so pleased that they have accepted. My5boysandme sends thanks to all and is very touched by everyone's kindness and compassion. Here is her original thread Sad

We send My5boysandme all our love and are so sorry for her loss. We are keeping her family close in our thoughts. X

So once again we are calling on the Blanketeers for help - whether it be donating, knitting or crocheting. Will you join us?

If you would like to help in anyway, please post on this thread but also PM me so we know. If you are able to donate, I can match you up with a crafter, or give you our donating information. I will co ordinate, match and deal with any admin. Knotty is here to answer any questions you may have. Sincere heartfelt thanks once again Thanks

As in the past, for consistency, the wools we are using are:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)
  • Rowan Cashsoft DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
  • Artesano Superwash Merino DK

4mm knitting needles or hooks
6" squares, as simple or as complex as you like.

The Colours
Greens, blues, silvers, dark/warm purple and cream.
If choosing cream, we ask that you go for the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK 013

Here is our website Do use the Crafting Guide on it to help you with practical info, and if interested there are a lot of linked suggestions for squares.

Previous blankets can also be seen on the website. We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you 'like' our FB page then you will get all our updates on our progress via your newsfeed.

So sad that another blanket is needed. Sending much love to My5boysandme and her family, and thinking of baby Dexter.

Very sad that this has happened My5. Much love to you.

Pistey, have pm-ed you. I will do a couple of squares, I have wool.

PurpleKittyKnitting · 16/10/2012 06:29

My wool arrived yesterday, many thanks to my donor, a lovely denim colour.

Do we have a deadline for the squares to be sent off yet?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/10/2012 07:29

Lovely Ruby.

I had a beginner lesson in a John Lewis which was good at kick starting me, although I then spent an age on You tube and nagging lovely folk on here, most Knotty, Soupy and Pidj Smile

I rate Catherine Hirst, she uses UK terminology (US is different) and I think her tutorials are very clear, although it would be fair to say I have to play them loads of times to work it out.

You need a size 4 crochet hook and some woolly wool.

And the link Pidj has given you is a crochet support thread on here which is full of lovelies who are very patient and will really help you with encouragement and advice. Thread is here

And welcome to Team Hooker Wine

Thank you, have replied to PMs, lovely to have you onboard BBB X

Not a deadline yet PKK,but we will come up with one hopefully today, if not, soon Thanks

Sorry Ruby , might help if I actually link to Catherine Hirst

She is here, she does everything for left or right handed

Good luck [fourleafedclover]

I'll second Pistey's recommendation of Catherine Hirst. I have just done a crochet course run by her - she's lovely, talented & patient! Grin

Somersaults · 16/10/2012 19:03

I figured out crochet from on here and Catherine Hirst. I just decided I wanted to do it so spent ages watching videos online and pestering Soupy and Pidj on here. I've still never watched a real life person crochet or crocheted with anyone else so it is possible without a first hand demo. Catherine Hirst was my breakthrough. Her videos were really great.

Somersaults · 16/10/2012 19:05

Oh and attic24 and this Granny square tutorial on Little Tin Bird were both very helpful too.

Skoggy · 16/10/2012 20:36

I'm self taught and only used the Help resources on Ravelry. Didn't watch any vids or anything because the majority of them were well explained. So thats another good resource for learning Crochet. Smile

snapacrile · 16/10/2012 21:47

I can do a square, got some wool left from last time.
Thoughts are with my5boysandme and her family.

Pm'd you pistey

Teladi · 16/10/2012 22:33

The red envelope card is from me, glad it got there safely too. I spent a while on my way to the postbox pondering what happened if you got red-carded by the postman. At my post office they would make you show ID clearly showing that you are, in fact, Mrs Woolly Hugs.

Very impressed by people learning to crochet. Am tempted but it would probably turn out like my attempt at learning to knit....!

KnottyLocks · 16/10/2012 22:35

We do actually have ID that says Woolly Hugs Grin

We had to both change our names by deed poll though .

PurplePidjin · 16/10/2012 22:45

My post people know that i answer to Purple Pidjin, and why. My neighbour also knows it's due to internet anonymity

Somersaults · 16/10/2012 22:46

My wool has arrived from my donor, a lovely purple and sea green. Beautiful colours. Thank you very, very much and I will do my best to make lovely squares from both of us.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/10/2012 23:49

She is verrrrrry patient isn't she Cakey?! We can start a Catherine Hirst fan club. Hopefully Ruby will be in it with us Grin

Thank you Teladi, I have put it safely for when the time comes Thanks

Somersaults - you really will, thank you Thanks

and welcome snapacrile - glad to have you on board Thanks

So, I just realised on the way back from walking DS to school that DH has the car for 2 whole days and that my knitting is in the boot!!

I was so cross with myself that I'd missed the opportunity to get loads down until I realised that he'd actually made a special trip back to the house to return it to me so I can get on with it while he's away!

Now that's true love...

GlaikitFizZombie · 17/10/2012 10:48

Aw noway he's a keeper!

TomsBentPinky · 17/10/2012 10:52

Hi,

I'm so sorry to see another blanket is being made :(

I'm not crafty (in a knitting way)

but I would like to donate wool or something?

If anyone needs anything I can buy and post onto you?

BarbaraWoodlouse · 17/10/2012 10:58

TomsBentPinky PM RatherBeOnThePiste and she can let you know how you can help. She's super good at finding people on these threads and contacting them, but if you PM her that will help Smile

Welcome aboard. Smile

Mathsdidi · 17/10/2012 11:05
