You can check in but you can never leave...

Can I check in?

I've lurked on the other thread and found loads of good advice and love looking at stuff other posters have made, hopefully one I'll be just half as good!

I'm almost finished a small (pram size) granny square blanket for my neighbours baby (due in 2 or 3 weeks), it's not perfect but I'm quite pleased with it (Smile

It's my birthday today so I'm hoping to get some money so I can have a trip to a wool shop as youngest DD (11) wants a blanket as well, but obviously hers will need to be bigger than pram size!

Hark at me, planning what to do next when I've not even finished this one Grin

SoupDragon · 29/09/2012 08:56

:)

You may be able to see all the mistakes in your baby blanket but no one else will. I speak from experience! Crochet seems to be fairly forgiving int hat respect.

As for planning what to do next before you've finished the current project, when you are a total addict more experienced you'll have at least 3 things on the go at one time :o

I've not got 3 blankets, one scarf and a thermos cosy on the go right now, oh no.

Happy birthday, MrsPresley Thanks

I have a wooly hug, a mini hug, squares for Refuge and two hats for imminent PidjChick on the hooks at the moment. Doesn't stop me looking :o

Wolfcub · 29/09/2012 10:24

Happy birthday MrsPresley. DH was killing himself laughing at me crocheting in bed again this morning while watching (for the second time) the great british bake off

Somersaults · 29/09/2012 16:05

Checking in. My Stylecraft arrived today. DH was a bit Shock at the sheer amount of it but hasn't moaned except to wish for somewhere to store it! So now I've got a little hug and refuge blanket squares on the go.

DillyTante · 29/09/2012 16:18

Checking in, though I've been a bit quiet on the hooking front recently.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/09/2012 16:24

Checking in for me as well, I'm signed off work (and housework) for several weeks after having surgery a few days ago, so hoping to spend lots of time hooking.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 29/09/2012 16:24

Happy birthday MrsPresley.

I've started my Refuge squares today, I also have several other projects on the go and a whole heap of other things that I want to do.
When I went upstairs choose my wool i realised I have 27 diferent colours of Stylecraft Blush and lots of other yarn as well

I did have a moment of crisis this morning when I couldn't find my current favourite size 4 hook (a lovely Addi Swing)

Turns out that SmallDog had put it in BigDog's basket, he likes to steal things and hide them. Luckily he hadn't chewed it.

PurplePidjin · 29/09/2012 18:19

Ooh, glad it went well and you're up to hooking already, WhoKnows Thanks

Happy birthday Mrs P!

Checking in too. I'm still doing the flower blanket and I'm putting myself under pressure to finish by 12th October as I want to go to the knitting and stitching show at Ally Pally with a clear conscience and an empty craft bag - so I can spend, spend, spend!

will not mention that I have knitting on the go too

Pidj could you PM me with an address as I have Cashmerino squares that can be used for the little hugs. Or will any Senior Huggers be at Ally Pally?

Daisybell1 · 29/09/2012 22:29

Checking in too if that's ok. Have a holiday planned from Thursday and am looking forward to hooking the hours away. Hippo and Miffy patterns planned :-)

PurplePidjin · 29/09/2012 23:23

Woollyback, pm Pistey - she has the storage! :o

Wish i could do Ally Palky but skintness and advanced pregnancy are conspiring against me Sad

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 30/09/2012 07:53

Nice new thread Grin with a clever title!.
Marking my place and thinking how can I get some crochet time in today...
Also off on hols like daisybell and need to make sure I take enough wool!!!

SoupDragon · 30/09/2012 08:07

I went on holiday with 14 balls of Stylecraft and about 5 of cashmerino for Hug squares Blush

It was quite useful as I was able to crochet a monster for a little boy in Kids Club who had his birthday out there - his mum took cake to Kids Club and I don't think you can have cake without giving a gift :)

auctionforsands.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/2-crocheted-rainbow-lap-blanket.html

I took 7 balls of Baby Bamboo on a youth club residential abroad and came back with that ^^

Kids thought it was great, bizarre teens that i work with :o

SoupDragon · 30/09/2012 08:26

Lovely :)

The baby bamboo makes such gorgeous blankets. It is my yarn-of-choice for gifts :)

PurplePidjin · 30/09/2012 08:47

Unfortunately, my family would think I'd gone bonkers if i asked for yarn for my birthday Sad

Daisybell1 · 30/09/2012 09:23

I now feel sane only taking 3 balls!!!

Question is, do I take yarn for scarf for me too (and how do airlines feel about hooking on planes???)

SoupDragon · 30/09/2012 13:37

I hooked on my flight to Antigua. Did I mention I'd been to Antigua? Don't take Stylecraft there as it is horrid in the humidity. I bought a wooden hook from Ebay and used nail clippers rather than scissors to cut the wool. The rest of my kit travelled in my suitcase.

OP posts:
Daisybell1 · 30/09/2012 17:14

no you didn't mention Antigua at all Grin

Interesting re hooking, I need to see if I can get wooden hooks small enough... Although who am I kidding, I'm going to spend the whole flight wrestling with dd!

SoupDragon · 30/09/2012 17:25

These start at a 2. I just googled bamboo crochet hooks.

I only ever seem to use a 4mm hook!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/09/2012 18:08

Thanks Pidj - I'm very tired but comfortable, concentration might be my biggest problem.

Question for you all re wool storage. How do you know what is what of your half used balls? I've got 4 separate stashes at the moment (Woolly Hug leftovers, Aran leftovers from a project, my 17 balls of Style raft and a random stash of balls of DK for little bits and bobs). Trying to stop DD muddling the latter two is the problem, she loves looking and playing with the random ones but I'm in danger of them getting into my blanket of Stylecraft, don't want any non Stylecraft creeping into my blanket. I would also like to keep the leftover SC segregated. Maybe labelled bags are the way to go?
