Woolly hugs

Support thread 2 - new blankets

This is a continuation of our thread supporting MNers creating blanket squares for Woolly Hugs. All are welcome and I'm hoping to post a link soon to a collection of our fave patterns, pics and links to keep them all in one place. In the meantime, this new thread will allow phone-based MNers like RedRosie to return from Special Phone Exile where she goes whenever the thread has too many messages on.

This is a thread of peace where knitters and crocheters, donors and crafters are all equally welcome.

Tribpot - I was thinking of doing that ie picking up stitches (probably in purple as it would go well with the green that it was done in) and doing just that. I'll give it a go.

There's a little trick to picking up on the vertical edge, bird - I'll send you a picture or two if you've not done it before!

I have done it a couple of times but not very well but any help gratefully accepted.

I'll also have a look at my Big Fat Knitting book.

Evening all Wine

Just had a glass of wine outside the Saatchi Gallery on the King's Road. Whole place mobbed by ladies in HUGE hats who have been to the Chelsea Flower Show. They were v posh.

Is it a bit hot for knitting?

Right well I'm gonna walk along the River Aire (erm, to the car park) and then sit in bloody traffic on the way home. Passing the very lovely Kirkstall Abbey on the way, I might add. No posh Chelsea ladies here though Grin

They were huge massive and in my opinion rather vulgar hats. I'm sure if you were wearing one, there would be a micro-climate underneath.

Evening all - passes Brew - no Wine till after my ballet class...

Basil is a truly excellent name of a sheep. I whole heartedly approve.

I do feel it is too hot to knit. Well that and I don't have any wool at the moment.

Have added purple stripes to the sides of my green woven cable square. Done them in rib so that they will stretch. Pictures on fb - will possibly out them on here later when I'm on a pc.

Angry birds on the iPad... Fabulous Grin

tribpot - have succeeded in doing that star eyelet design Grin doing as you suggested, which was ignoring the "special abbreviation" explanation and doing the slip stitches and passing them over. It makes more sense anyway given the abbreviations used.

Thank you for your help. and at least I now know that I wasn't just being a numpty cos I couldn't make sense of the instructionsWink

No worries bird, I was going to have a whack at it but based on having a nearly identical pattern (and slipping the stitches to compensate for the yarn overs just making more sense) I'm glad you were able to bash through it! It certainly was a 'special abbreviation' given it bore no resemblance actually to the abbreviation! (And makes me feel a bit better at some of the mistakes in the patterns I've put up like the tree one where I had to redact whole sections when I realised I'd completely buggered it up - at least no-one is paying for mine, nor have they been proof-read or technically edited!)

Glaikit - SUPER jealous of the iPad, I hope some day you will return to knitting Wink

Podd, if Fizzog does take the photo from her iPad , this is what it would look like as Dave goes in for a chomp Grin

Oooh - iPad chat... download Penultimate. I take screenshots of online crochet patterns and then put them into Penultimate where I can cross off where I am and make notes just like a paper pattern. I have a specific Crochet notebook there which has all the patterns I've made so I can easily find favourites.

Morning all. Its so lovely to be able to post again on my phone :) although the thread will get too long soon enough I guess :(

Nothing to report and not a stitch has been knitted ... But I'm determined both squares will be done by the end of the weekend ... Basil will be free from his needles and gallop to Pitsey's place.

Another beautiful day. "They" are threatening 29 degrees here in London for the afternoon, which is less nice than it sounds if you have a meeting at midday in a windowless room a tube journey away from the office.
