Woolly hugs

Support thread 2 - new blankets

This is a continuation of our thread supporting MNers creating blanket squares for Woolly Hugs. All are welcome and I'm hoping to post a link soon to a collection of our fave patterns, pics and links to keep them all in one place. In the meantime, this new thread will allow phone-based MNers like RedRosie to return from Special Phone Exile where she goes whenever the thread has too many messages on.

This is a thread of peace where knitters and crocheters, donors and crafters are all equally welcome.

That is a clever app indeed Soup - I may need that if I ever branch beyond garter stitch...

I've got a full day in the office with a variety of hellish meetings, followed by a birthday party in Wacky Warehouse. Never the loveliest place to be but on a hot day like this, at the end of the day, it'll be horrific, possibly actually a biohazard. I would insist on alcohol for its antiseptic properties but it seems a bit of a shame to blow my year of sobriety with two days to go Grin

Excellent work on the year of sobriety! If I make a week of sobriety that results in a street parade with an ompah band.

Oh-trib! Wacky warehouse! I've foolishly promised ds softplay today but I'm hoping it'll be cooler first thing. I will optimistically be taking my knitting in the hope that I'll have one sleeping and one running around. There's a chance I'll get away with being still and just roaring occasionally pretending to be a monster! Have decided brain too hot to think and going simple on the next squares. Am amassing far too many ends - must remember to sew in as I go along. Ball three might get started today...keep thinking of cold things everyone!

Mole - I know. Not my choice, or at all the perfect end to a stressful day (might be if I was allowed to go down the slides and stuff). But ho hum.

Have had mega wasp invasion this morning; I couldn't find a newspaper so decided to kill it with the dustbuster. Fact: this doesn't work. Bloody thing is still alive inside the dustbuster, which is now out on the back step waiting for DH to deal with later.

Back from my lovely surprise holiday with 5 squares! They will be posted today - one is a very plain navy blue which I was hoping to sew a blanket stitch star on but couldn't get my head around it Blush. I don't know how people sew! I managed lazy daisy? to do some flowers, but that's as far as my skills stretch.

Think I'll stick to knitting for the time being!

I have some wool left over if anyone wants it? Including some yellow for a star!!! Work's about to go bat-shit nutty so need to focus on that, so I won't have time for any more squares now.

Isn't yellow banned? I have been hiding my 'was meant to be cream but is actually banana' ball in case it infected the other colours somehow :)

Well-softplay surprisingly fine today. Lovely and cool, ds wanted to run around with two new friends and dd slept while I knitted three whole rows and drank a coffee! Hope similar for you this afternoon, trib!

I wish, Mole. The one thing we're counting on is that most people won't think this afternoon is a top time to take their kids to Wacky, so it won't be hotter than actual Hades but only a bit warmer than the surface of the sun.

iPad, Glaikit? You've never mentioned that before. Curious.

Barbara - you're right. Fortunately it wasn't as horrific as the last time we went to a party there, which was in the same dreadful 5-7 slot but on a Saturday in mid-summer, so the place was absolutely RAMMED. This time we had it mostly just for 30 exceptionally loud children up to the age of 7 and most of them were returned to their parents in a presentable, largely uninjured condition. (Which is not to say a few of the older boys were not threatened with having their mums phoned to come and get them after fighting and suchlike).

It was still unbelievably hot and unbelievably loud but ds had a lovely time. I would not be inconsolable if we didn't go again Grin

Now finished my star eyelet square (after tribpot helped me work out the mistake in the pattern Smile) and a intarsia technique square which I "free" knitted and which doesn't look too bad if I say so myself [smug]Grin

Now got lots of pesky ends to sew in. Think I'll leave that until tomorrow. Wink

Woke suddenly at 3.30 this morning remembering I'd left my poor purple granny on the garden table. Had to go out in the dark and retrieve her. Poor tg

Poor thing!

Then I couldn't get back to sleep. It will feel like a long day today. But at least my purple granny isnt having to fend for herself in the garden anymore - imagine if a fox had taken her!

I'm off to the wool shop this morning so that I can begin my windmill bags for my collection of DDs.

Any sanguine advice?
