We have just heard the tragic and devastating news that MrsKwazii's daughter has passed away today in an accident. She was 4 Sad

We would like to make a blanket for MrsKwazii's family, to offer them what comfort we can.
If you would like to contribute in any way, please sign up below and PM RatherbeOnThePiste with your offer: crafting, donating, need wool, don't need wool, etc. She'll match you up.

We need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

The wool we are using is:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Blues, warm purples, greens, silver/ greys and pinks.

Purple - good going!

My second square - nowhere near as much fun as the elephants.

Molehillmountain · 04/03/2012 16:31

Tribpot - I love it though! Am contemplating a similar pattern if my wool looks as if it'll do a third square.

tribpot · 04/03/2012 16:37

Thanks Mole - it looks nice but was a bit yawnsome :) I borrowed the pattern from this Ravelry sock pattern - it's free and comes with two charts, the square is chart B with a couple of stitches thrown on either side. There is also a similar dishcloth pattern without the vertical stripes.

BIWI · 04/03/2012 17:13

My goodness, you are all so clever!

GlaikitFizzog · 04/03/2012 17:21

Right can someone help me please? I've started with 33 stitches. I'm about 20 rows in and now have 37. How does the happen? And can I get back on track or am I going to have to rip it out again? :(

tribpot · 04/03/2012 17:31

What kind of stitch are you doing, Glaikit? Are you going back and forth knitting every row?

I suspect what's happened is you've either gone through the wool and separated one stitch into two by accident or you've picked up the little bar that lies between two stitches and treated it as a stitch in its own right. In which case: well done, you've learnt how to increase your stitches without even knowing!

For a square that is going to be expertly hammered into place by Pistey and Knotty, I would just knit some stitches together in your next row, you want to do four so maybe one at each end and then a couple towards the middle. on how to do it, and here's a diagram.

TimeForCake · 04/03/2012 17:33

I can't help I'm afraid Fizzog but if it makes you feel better, my rows seem to get shorter Confused I'm crocheting though, or trying to at least. Ready to throw down my hook and yarn and head for the Wine though frankly.
I can't get this at all!

Will try again later. Good luck with yours.

GlaikitFizzog · 04/03/2012 17:36

Just a plain knit stitch tribpot. Thanks for the links! I think if I needed to increase I wouldn't be able to!! Must concentrate harder!!

tribpot · 04/03/2012 17:41

Okay - well, knit a few together and call it a design feature then Grin

Other than that, maybe count your stitches at the end of each row just to make sure you haven't introduced any new design features, and plough on to the end.

GlaikitFizzog · 04/03/2012 17:43

Think ill join you with the win]eT imeForCake! :o

TimeForCake · 04/03/2012 17:48

Trying to put a photo of my square but wondering if I can do it from my phone?

tribpot · 04/03/2012 19:06

Mole, I think from reading the FAQs that the app only gives access to the talk pages, not your profile.

You could try the mobile site from your phone's browser though, it's: m.mumsnet.com/

Molehillmountain · 04/03/2012 19:09

Got to main site - then drew a blank on getting photo. It allows me to send to twitter but not obviously to mumsnet Sad. But I am very technophobe so it could well be possible. Thanks though Smile

tribpot · 04/03/2012 19:20

Ah you mean if you look at the photo on your phone, you have an option to post it to Twitter but not to MN? Indeed this is so. You could post it to Twitter (if you have a Twitter account of course!) and then link to the post here.

I can't see an option from the mobile site, actually - you can open up the main site on your phone browser and deal with everything being very, very small! Or use a laptop.

Molehillmountain · 04/03/2012 19:42

Then I'll have to crank up the old desktop! Shocked to find my phone can't do it-I did wonder if it could knit too given that it's usually such a clever clogs!

SoupDragon · 04/03/2012 20:15

Last square

Posted from my phone Wink

tribpot · 04/03/2012 20:44

Soupy - using the Google+ app? I didn't say it couldn't be done from a phone, but not to MN itself I think :)

Molehillmountain · 04/03/2012 21:02

Soupy Envy at your technical prowess both with the hook and the smart phone! Your pink looks a bit like mine-lovely design

BIWI · 04/03/2012 21:08

Soupy - you are so talented!

Al0uise · 04/03/2012 21:22

That square is beautiful.

How did you upload the image?

FruitShootsAndHeaves · 04/03/2012 21:27

I can't make my pattern work with only one colour. Would it be ok to use another colour wool that I already have?
I don't know what sort it is but it looks and feels identical to the Rowan one I've been sent.

Blatherskite · 04/03/2012 21:34

Would love to know how my crafter is doing with the wool I sent....

QuincyMincemeat · 04/03/2012 21:36

Yy me too Blathers
