We have just heard the tragic and devastating news that MrsKwazii's daughter has passed away today in an accident. She was 4 Sad

We would like to make a blanket for MrsKwazii's family, to offer them what comfort we can.
If you would like to contribute in any way, please sign up below and PM RatherbeOnThePiste with your offer: crafting, donating, need wool, don't need wool, etc. She'll match you up.

We need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

The wool we are using is:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Blues, warm purples, greens, silver/ greys and pinks.

Chip, I wasn't sure and would rather risk insulting a technowhiz than a technophobe being outed iyswim.

I really don't mean any offense by pointing it out Sad

LinzerTorte · 07/03/2012 14:19

I've just opened my wool and it's distinctly orange looking. I'm positive that I ordered a dark pink; have just looked on the Cucumberpatch website and it's still there - Rowan Cashsoft DK in Admiral. It's the only Rowan Cashsoft in yarn bargains and I'm sure it was the only one when I ordered. However, I've checked my Paypal receipt and it does say Clementine on that. How did this happen? Should I reorder in a more appropriate shade? It's not bright orange but definitely not pink either. I'll try to post a pic to my profile.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 07/03/2012 14:25

Grin at Linzer's orange wool
Pop it on FB, I'll have a looky

SoupDragon · 07/03/2012 14:32

I"ve had this with Cucumberpatch - i clicked on one of the bargains in the shade I wanted and it added a different one to my basket. They sent me another ball of the shade I ordered, free of charge.

KnitterNotTwitter · 07/03/2012 14:36

I'd be surprised if you can get onto my FB or LR (real life) - but my Ravelry existance you're welcome to poke around in if you fancy :-)

Honest that last square was easy, just k2tog and yo's really....

KnitterNotTwitter · 07/03/2012 14:38

And pidj - have friended you on Ravelry too :-)

LinzerTorte · 07/03/2012 14:42

Did you have to send the wool you received back, Soup? International parcels are so expensive to send here that it would probably be cheaper for me to reorder - although the lovely Pistey is sorting it for me anyway. Thanks And it does say Clementine in the confirmation e-mail I had, so I don't actually have any proof that I ordered Admiral.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 07/03/2012 14:46

Grin I am sorting you out Linzer!!

LinzerTorte · 07/03/2012 15:10

Thank you so much Pistey, that's so kind of you.

I'm sure you have more than enough to do in the way of organising, replying to PMs, etc. so I really do appreciate it. Thanks

KnottyLocks · 07/03/2012 15:27

Keeps her out of trouble, honest.Smile

Grr...have started square number three four times!!! Would have finished it were it not for my brain of mush Blush

SoupDragon · 07/03/2012 15:48

No, Linzer, they told me to keep it and simply sent a replacement.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 07/03/2012 15:59
Grin

Consider yourself sorted Mrs Torte!

LinzerTorte · 07/03/2012 16:59

Thank you, Pistey. Thanks

Well, I phoned Cucumberpatch and am now feeling a bit Confused. They told me just to send the balls I'd received back to them and they'd send the right ones out. They're going to send me a postage bag. They also said they'd check my original order to see if a mistake had been made. The thing is, it's likely to cost me more to send the balls back than they cost to buy in the first place. I didn't feel I could tell them I'd keep the balls and wanted some more in a different colour when I can't prove that they (or rather their website) made a mistake.

GlaikitFizzog · 07/03/2012 17:41

MinnieBar its just a knit stitch. I don't do fancy!!

I have procured a jiffy bag from work for sending. when you say to include left overs is there a minimum length? I have loads of bits 6 inches long. Or is it best just yo whack them all in an you can decide what you can use.

Linzer distance selling res mean that the seller should pay for returns. the bag they are sending might be prepaid.

LinzerTorte · 07/03/2012 17:55

I did wonder about that, Glaikit - but as I can't prove that it was their mistake rather than mine, I didn't know whether the rule still applies. I know that Amazon will only cover return postage if they made a mistake or there's something wrong with the product.

Anyway, I've had a nice e-mail back from Cucumberpatch, who said that my original order was for Clementine - but that I'm welcome to send it back. However, I replied that it will be cheaper and quicker to get Pistey to send me some new wool buy new wool here as international postage for parcels is so expensive, so I think I'll leave it for now.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 07/03/2012 20:53

Now the weird thing is Linzer - it was cheaper for me to send you that purplicious ball of woolly wool, than it was to forward the one I did down to the West Country today. 10p cheaper in fact. How weird is that?!!

I have replied to all PMs Thanks

Sad I cannot answer a technical question. Knottyyyyyy!! What is the answer to the question about minimum length of leftovers to be included with squares?

Many, many thanks to HairyPotter for your kind donation for 'Woolly Hugs' today, we receive it with gratitude, Thanks

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 07/03/2012 21:17

Turns out my square IS 6"! Grin
I just didnt know 6" looked like that.
Yay.
Just a knit stich but I might go for a basket for the next one

PurplePidjin · 07/03/2012 21:32

Usable leftovers, I would imagine. Kind as the offer is, you can't knit much with 6" of wool...

RatherBeOnThePiste · 07/03/2012 21:53

Whoop whoop MrsDeVere!! Brilliant!! Grin

And no more 'just a knit stitch' Smile
Knit stitch is gorgeoise!!

KnottyLocks · 07/03/2012 22:23

MrsDV Grin

Fizzog, 6" strands? You can keep them. If it's long enough to stitch on a flower or similar, please send it. Thanks.

chipmonkey · 07/03/2012 22:39

Right, so I have completed one square. "Badger's paw" design from a pattern on Ravelry.com. So even if my pink wool never arrived, at least I have done one!

chipmonkey · 07/03/2012 22:42

After some technical difficulty, I think I have uploaded a pic of my square to my profile. And.Knotty, I will sew in the loose strands as soon as I figure out how!

MiaAlexandrasmummy · 07/03/2012 22:43

I am so sorry, I have no idea where the wool I ordered as a donation is. PayPal seem to have cleared the order, will ring CucumberPatch tomorrow to see what is going on. I am Letting. The. Team. Down. And. Feeling. Guilty.

chipmonkey · 07/03/2012 23:03

Mias, you are not letting the team down. I reckon Cucumberpatch don't know what's hit them! One of the colours I ordered was out of stock, so rather than wait for it I emailed them and asked them to change it. But the way I've gone, I've ordered so much wool I reckon I could nearly do a blanket by myself!
