Are there any objections if I use the leftover wool from the Edgar and Rindercella blankets to make something for Blondes? I've got loads! Anyone with leftovers feel free to pm me about either sending it on or sending more squares :)

I'm not on here very much any more, but I can knit. Can I contribute?

KnottyLocks · 16/05/2011 15:44

Niecie, a book of knitted squares, eh? Any nice patterns that would translate to 6"? Actually, are there any teddy bear motifs in there? Blondes loves them, apparently.

Scotia, of course you can Smile. thanks.
The wool details are up thread if you are happy to get your own. If you need me to get some to you, please PM me your address.

PrettyCandles · 16/05/2011 16:46

Do we know Blondes' dh's name and Gingegirl's ds's name? I would like to work their names or initials into the squares - if they would like that.

Niecie · 16/05/2011 17:06

Knotty - It is this one. I've had the crocheted version for ages and used it for one of Rinder's blocks but it came up really small and I had to do it again.

I am hoping that the knitted ones will be a bit more accurate, or maybe it was my crocheting that was a bit off!! All the blocks are supposed to be 6" blocks if you use DK and 4mm needles. It is a nice book although I do think they cheat a tiny bit to get to 200 blocks by putting in different colourways or variations on a theme like stripes.

I don't remember a teddy motive but I will have a proper look. I know they have the heart that others have used for Edgar's blanket but don't remember many others like that.

KnottyLocks · 16/05/2011 17:46

I believe Blondes' DH's name was Mark and that Ginge's son's Oliver. Let me check both before we go ahead using initials. I also think I've read that Ginge has a daughter so I'll ask if she would like her initial included too.
We did that with Edgar's blanket: an L for Leo and his two sisters' initials.

Niecie, the knitted heart is a gorgeous one. Not to worry about a teddy of you can't find one. Am I right in thinking you said you'd have a go at the teddy, PrettyCandles?

KnottyLocks · 16/05/2011 18:19

Ok, I've PMed Blondes. Please wait for a reply before knitting any initials, I'm checking to see if this is ok.

Thanks.

smokinaces · 16/05/2011 18:24

Yes, Blondes husband was Mark. Her first initial is C if you wanted that.

KnottyLocks · 16/05/2011 18:25

Thanks, Smokin. I've asked her if she'd like us to put both their initials on.

KnottyLocks · 16/05/2011 18:41

I've heard from Blondes - she is so grateful to you all and sends her thanks.

So we can include the letters M and C.

Also along with teddy bears, any chance that some of you could do flowers, leaves or anything gardening related would be great, as Mark was into gardening.

purplepidjin · 16/05/2011 18:55

Niecie there are some lovely 100% cotton yarns (I'm currently making a stetson for a 1yo in DB pima cotton) that would make wonderful chemo caps, not too heavy. The DB works up quite stiff on a 5.5mm hook but a 7 or 8 would probably be wonderful, especially in a big stitch?

Teddy granny square:

Colour A
Ch2, 4 dc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st to join
Ch1 2htc in each st, sl st to join
Ch1 #2htc in next st, 1tc in next st# around, sl st to join
Ch1 #2htc in next st, 1tc in next 2 sts# around, sl st to join
Ch1 5tc in next st, sl st in next 7sts, 5tc in next st, sl st and change colour

Colour B
Ch1 turn
2tc ch1 3tc behind 5tc shell, ch 2 sk 4, 3tc, ch 2 sk 4, 3tc ch1 3tc behind 5tc shell, ch 2 sk 4, 3tc, ch 2 sk 4, 3tc ch 1 3tc, ch 2 sk 4, 3 tc, ch 2 sk 4, 2 tc ch 1 3 tc, ch 2 sk 4, 3 tc, ch 2, sl st to join

Carry on as normal for a granny square

Embroider on eyes, mouth etc.

I've put one on Rinder's blanket, will do another for Blondes. It has a lovely pointy nose so I'm not sure if mine looks more like a hedgehog?? Grin

It appears I have a very busy inbox all of a sudden. I'll reply as soon as I can. Baths and bedtime to supervise.

We probably need to gather some more donators.

purplepidjin · 16/05/2011 19:25

Sorry, Knotty, that was me getting home to all yours Blush

PrettyCandles · 16/05/2011 19:49

Yes, I'll do at least one bear (knitted), but of course others can, too.

KnottyLocks · 16/05/2011 22:53

Sorry, Ds2 is full of cold and a bit clingy. I'll reply to PMs tomorrow.

KnottyLocks · 17/05/2011 07:36

Think I've replied to all PMs. Nag me if I haven't.

KnottyLocks · 17/05/2011 10:07

For those new to the thread, we are doing:

Knitted or crocheted 6" squares
using 4mm hook or needles,
Wool is Debbie Bliss Cashmerino or Rowan Cashsoft in Double Knit
(NOT baby cashmerino or chunky, please)
Textures, mixed colours, motifs etc all welcome.
Colours: purples, pinks, lilacs, blues, greens

Please PM me if:
you are unable to get wool and need some sent to you
or if you would like to help by donating/ buying wool to send to a crafty bod

KnottyLocks · 17/05/2011 10:13

For those who are unsure how to get a 6" square:

Cast on 33 stitches.
Knit 42 rows. (Stitch of your choice)
Measure - if a bit short knit a row or two more.

Most of the patterns for 6" squares say 42-45 rows.

I'm like a stuck record now!

KnottyLocks · 17/05/2011 11:57

Those of you who have asked for wool, you should have received a PM telling you it's on its way. Please PM me if you haven't had that.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 17/05/2011 16:12

I've ordered my wool so I hope it gets here soon!

KnottyLocks · 17/05/2011 17:37

There seems to be a fair bit of wool flying around in the postal system. I'm willing it to arrive soon. Come on, Royal Mail.

I'm laughing at Piste and her new best crafting friend. Only I know who that really is, until the wool arrives Grin. Lucky lucky lady. Next it'll be a Christmas card...
