Are there any objections if I use the leftover wool from the Edgar and Rindercella blankets to make something for Blondes? I've got loads! Anyone with leftovers feel free to pm me about either sending it on or sending more squares :)

Was going to ask about ends - will ensure mine are darned in!

How many squares would you like per knitter? I'm on mat leave so have a fair bit of time...

KnottyLocks · 15/05/2011 18:55

342, please Shoulders.

Oh bug, just read your post properly, Pidj.

So sorry to hear of the loss of another dear boy Sad

KnottyLocks · 15/05/2011 19:04

PictureThis, just PMed you.

mumatron · 15/05/2011 19:05

if your going for a forth blanket i can send 2 balls of wool instead of the one i was planning to send. just let me know if it's needed.

purplepidjin · 15/05/2011 19:26

To do 2 more blankets - blondes and gingegirl - I'll need 128 more squares. The blankets will turn out 5'x4' or 80 squares each! Are we up to the challenge? I've still got miles of wool so will use that for sewing up and edging, although I might request more later so the borders are all one colour

We're mad! Mad I tells ya! Grin

Couldn't agree more pidge. But mad in a nice way.

purplepidjin · 15/05/2011 20:30

Mad in an "ouch my right forefinger" way at the moment!! Hope DP has left me some wine...

You most certainly deserve it.
One question about the ends. I'll gladly finish them off for you, but prefer it if people leave enough yarn at the beginning and end to sew with. Do you not find that helpful? As i say, it's no trouble sewing them in.

purplepidjin · 15/05/2011 20:52

Dutch, the system I'm using is to start with 2 squares and a ball of wool then double crochet two edges together, then straight into the next pair. That way, I do rows then start on the columns if that makes sense? I can gather the ends in as I go but it's an awful lot easier if I don't have to!!

Is there a better way?

DutchOma · 15/05/2011 21:02

I sew mine together with a neat little overhand stitch in the colour of the wool that I have the end of, IYSWIM.

If you are on Ravelry you can see one of my blankets.

KnottyLocks · 15/05/2011 21:31

Ok people, my tinternet is mucking about a bit Hmm so please be patient if I don't return your PMs quickly. It's not that I'm ignoring you, honest.

ShouldersBackAndNoBiscuits · 15/05/2011 21:46

I'll happily do a few extra squares for the next blanket, I'm sure there will be enough yarn to make plenty for both.

purplepidjin · 15/05/2011 21:50

Ah, ok. I have so many different shades, and I've been a bit dictatorial already over wool types etc. It'd be a bit too Hmm if I started specifying that you must leave x" of wool for sewing up Grin

Oh, and I've blogged about it if anyone's interested mimapants.blogspot.com/

Oh no! Just seen we need more squares for another bereaved mother and her little boy. Sad

I happy to do some more squares for blanket no. 4 although I want to do something for a friend of mine whose cancer has returned and is in for a rough couple of months - it might just be 2 squares per blanket until I have done something for my friend. Got to decide what to do first so whilst I am deciding I can keep knitting squares.

There seems to be a lot of sadness about sometimes doesn't there?Sad

Purplepidjin, you and your right index finger will deserve a holiday once these blankets are finally done.Smile

KnottyLocks · 16/05/2011 06:38

Niece, so sorry to hear about your friend.
Many thanks for your contribution to our projects, it is very much appreciated and we really do understand that your priorities must and should be with your friend. A big hug to you both from me.

purplepidjin · 16/05/2011 08:39

Niecie, you've done so much! Please don't feel obliged to continue.

Bev's Country Cottage is the most awesomest place to find useful stuff for your friend

Only me Smile

Have just blanket PMed you, if you'll pardon the pun.

Update: We have decided to attempt to get enough squares to make a blanket for Gingegirl whose 2 year old son died suddenly due to Williams? syndrome ? a heart disorder. If you feel you can help us out, let me know by posting on Blondes? blanket thread or by PM. Please don?t feel that you have to contribute to this, our 4th, blanket: we understand that real lives and loved ones need our attention too Smile

We really do appreciate everything you have done to help us and are very grateful for your time and support. I know that Blondes is very touched by your kindness. So are we.

Many, many thanks.

mistlethrush · 16/05/2011 13:57

I can do squares - could do with some wool though please

KnottyLocks · 16/05/2011 14:06

Hello Mistlethrush. Thank you. If you PM me your address, I'll get some wool to you.

Niecie · 16/05/2011 14:53

Purplepidjin, thanks for the link. That is really useful. I am struggling with what to make and what to make it with - soooo many lovely yarns to chose from! Spent ages wandering aimlessly round the wool shop on Saturday avoiding the cup final. Don't want to do anything too fine as it will take too long but don't want to do anything too chunky as it isn't appropriate for the summer time. I might start a thread about it actually and try and get some ideas but website in your link is great.

I am happy to do some more squares whilst I ponder what to do. I even bought a book of knitted squares on Saturday so I need to get some use out of it whilst I think what to do for my friend. I might even carry on knitting squares and make my friend a blanket too. Smile
