Are there any objections if I use the leftover wool from the Edgar and Rindercella blankets to make something for Blondes? I've got loads! Anyone with leftovers feel free to pm me about either sending it on or sending more squares :)

I love fabric shopping but daren't go very often as I always spend far more than I intend to.

purplepidjin · 10/06/2011 09:21

DP thinks I should get rid of my fabric stash because I don't use it Shock

Luckily, MimaPants does bandana bibs so odds and ends are vital i tell him

MEN [Grr] Take no notice. I got rid of some of my stash, both wool and material and regret it quite a lot. It wasn't really in anybody's way. Sad

KnottyLocks · 10/06/2011 09:40

Oma, you shall just have to rebuild it on the quiet!

DH has no idea just how much fabric I have hidden away. About time I started doing something with it apart from adding more.

Piste, if you managed to make a bridesmaid dress, you obviously can sew. Think you may have post traumatic sewing disorder. Try something smaller and less complicated. I have some lovely patterns you could try.

mistlethrush · 10/06/2011 10:33

Last thing I sewed was a stand in Christening dress for my goddaughter - which was held in hand for when she had to be changed out of the first one. It had little strawberrys as a print, and I found some lovely strawberry buttons to go on it. Somehow didn't get round to making anything for ds - I'm sure if I had a girl I would have made plenty of dresses by now. Rather a shame really. I do have an old Choir dress to transform into a superhero cloak though - he doesn't know I've got that planned. Just need to get round to it!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/06/2011 14:30

Is it nearly bed time?!
Lovely Knotty - yes I certainly have post traumatic sewing disorder......

It was so awful!!!!

KnottyLocks · 10/06/2011 14:45

Silk can be a cow to sew, even for the experienced. Should've used gaffer tape Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/06/2011 15:13
Grin
mistlethrush · 10/06/2011 15:14

Masking tape's not bad either!!!

Reminds me of making my wedding dress with my mother.... Sitting room had to be cleared to lay the silk and the pattern out. Bodice made originally in lining to check - and pattern altered to make it less low cut Grin - two sewing machines (identical!) going on either side of the dining room table...

Still ended up sewing roses on the night before the wedding. Blush

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/06/2011 15:19

I thought she was joking ??! Confused now!

mistlethrush · 10/06/2011 15:20

Gaffer - might be too sticky - masking - peels off once you've done the relevant stitching!

KnottyLocks · 10/06/2011 15:46

I was joking about the gaffer tape Grin Unless you like this look and if you do, fair play to you.

However, I think some folks who sew with silk use a tissue/butcher's paper layer to stop the silk slipping.

Anybody any good at hand embroidery???

DP's best mates DW made me a beautiful cake at cost for DP's birthday (I surprised him with a trip to Essex to visit them) and she's become an Auntie overnight Grin so I offered to make something for her as a present... Am now embroidering Auntie XX is the best on a bib

You can put hand embroidery on the list of crafty things that Pisty cannot do...

purplepidjin · 11/06/2011 08:03

It was a bit of a surprise to me tbh

5 words in an hour on plain brushed cotton when I haven't done anything like that in well over a decade Shock

Pistey don't forget your hanging with a gang of folk that can do these things. It's a minority among the wider population and not exactly a skill to put on the cv Wink

I love the way i hang round here....I'm hoping crafty tendencies rub off! But I really do appreciate lovely things and by default that makes me crafty! Your pattern should hopefully arrive today Pidj...

I'm happy to have a bash at teaching you. It's not really something you can learn from a book although that's a good start Star

Thank you

On a side note, I've got enough squares for blondes's blanket plus another one 4x3.5' and enough wool to make the second one at least 4x4. Would someone like to try and get a mumsnet consensus >?v?< on a charity and we can auction the fourth?

What about a charity such as SANDS? or a bereavement charity?
