Following on from the call for quilters and knitters here, this thread is for those who would like to in contribe a square so that we can make a quilt for EdgarAleNPie and her family.

Your square needs to be:

7" square
cotton or polycotton
pre-washed to avoid shrinkage
zigzagged or overlocked around the edges, if possible
Any colour
If appliqued, using cotton
Can be embroidered
Any design to be in the central 6" square
Can send plain squares too

Details regarding posting, etc, to follow.

Many thanks.

I'm only working til 1pm today,so will make a start after lunch.

CarGirl, would you like me to do a squareon your behalf? I have more fabric than I know what to do with.

HelpMeWanda · 22/03/2011 08:13

I've just found the perfect ITNG thing on eBay! It should work very well...

That's one square sorted, now to cut the yellow one and embroider the white...

This is such a great idea...

Have had a quick look for Night Garden applique with no joy.

And of course, we could do some daisies.

Daisies are great! I've found an Upsy Daisy appliqued pair of dungarees on eBay - I'm going to cut out the figure and stitch it onto some plain cotton... how sneaky is that? Grin

KnottyLocks · 22/03/2011 09:14

Nowt wrong with sneaky Grin

Am a bit confused.

Regarding the fabric/theme of the squares we choose. I was planing on doing a really girly square as it was for Edgars DDs bed. Should I be looking to do something brighter/younger? , (gosh this is so hard :( ) something more to remind them of their brother? Sorry if thats badly worded :(

KnottyLocks · 22/03/2011 09:39

Toto, a girly square is still in keeping. I think someone else is doing a square with a blue background and feminine applique. Another, I think MrsDevere, is doing a butterfly.

Go with what you feel is right. Smile

KnottyLocks · 22/03/2011 09:40

As Edgar's DS loved flowers maybe you would like to go with that idea? Then it represents him and the girls.

OP posts:
KnottyLocks · 22/03/2011 09:43

If you would like to include a note or card for Edgar and her family they will be forwarded with the finished quilt.

Thanks to SDTG for this very lovely idea.

I'm glad girly squares are ok! Have got some nice greens/pinks/purples that will work well together.

Might stick to flowers if that's ok? Also I will have to applique by hand as my machine isn't that fancy & I don't trust myself to be neat enough with it! So will try & use some decorative stitches to make it more interesting, hopefully!

Bettymum · 22/03/2011 09:55

Just posting to mark my place, I knitted half a square last night for the other blanket but will try and get to a fabric square later in the week.

Bebe, those colours sound great. Decorative stitches - lovely. Smile

My ds has just enquired as to what I'm up to and said that he'd like to draw a square which has given me an idea... I think i'll get him to draw on fabric with one of them fading ink pens then sew over the top of it. That way the bubs can be included in sending their love too.

BTW I can't decide between my last few shortlisted fabrics! Can I do more than one square, then you can decide which one is the most appropriate?

KnottyLocks · 22/03/2011 10:52

We'll try to use as many of the squares as we can. We do have the option to have them on the back of the quilt too.

So yes, go ahead and make more than one.

I very much like the idea of including your DS's design. Be a shame not to. Smile

Wow, yourethe, that's amazing! Anyone else who wants to do that, please do! More than one is brilliant too Grin

It was pretty damn amazing wasn't it? Grin. It's taken a lot out of me though. I think I need to put my feet up with a custard cream now. ....

Can I just add that when you PM Pixie, could you say how many squares you are doing so that we can get some idea of how many we've got and need?

One is absolutely fine! Please do not feel pressurised into more. That's not our intention. Smile

Many thanks.

AAAAArrrrrghhhhh!!! Angry Just washed all my lovely, lovely fabrics and put a piece of scarlet in with the wash. Now who's fabrics are all sodding pink???? What a tool I am. Ho hum. I'll still attempt to make two or three with what is salvagable.

Mirage · 22/03/2011 13:34

I'm signing off to do some cutting and sewing.I may be some time......Grin

KnottyLocks · 22/03/2011 14:03

Oh Youretheone, how frustrating.

Let's have a look on the positive side...it could have been the whole quilt spoilt, but wasn't. And, the quilt is for the entire the Edgar family including their two daughters so pink is still very appropriate.

I understand the frustration though.

Good luck, Mirage. About time I did more than type about it too.
