Following on from the call for quilters and knitters here, this thread is for those who would like to in contribe a square so that we can make a quilt for EdgarAleNPie and her family.

Your square needs to be:

7" square
cotton or polycotton
pre-washed to avoid shrinkage
zigzagged or overlocked around the edges, if possible
Any colour
If appliqued, using cotton
Can be embroidered
Any design to be in the central 6" square
Can send plain squares too

Details regarding posting, etc, to follow.

Many thanks.

MrsDeVere, that sounds gorgeous. Will look lovely floating near the flowers and balloons.

Grin Think either would be fine. Shall we settle for that?

Please count me in, I'd like to help out too. Will have a look what I have in my stash of fabrics. Smile

Ah knotty, you have to bear in mind some of us are pretty thick! Wink

Many thanks for catering to the textile-challenged...

PurveyorOfWoo · 21/03/2011 22:27

Confused.com

OK, I'll see how the fabric holds up and hem if necessary!

KnottyLocks · 21/03/2011 22:30

Lazyem, thank you.

NiceCage, I understand thick only too well. Fabric I can do...don't ask me to work out anything mathematical. You should have seen me attempt a roman blind. Confused

thefirstMrsDeVere · 21/03/2011 22:30

are we doing a 3/4 hem?

Perhaps you could bullet point so people like me dont get confused? Smile

MrsDeVere, bullet points it is:

  • the square must be 7".

*We suggested that the edges were zigzagged to help prevent fraying, but not essential.

*If you decide to hem it, the finished size after hemming must still be 7".

*If hemming, start with a square of at least 8" or more

Not sure if that's clearer!

ta very much Smile

Do we have a deadline?

KnottyLocks · 21/03/2011 22:45

Not yet. Pixie is arranging the posting side. At the moment her focus is getting materials to makers, so you have a little while.

Cor, quick off the mark or what!

BrewBrew for all you busy people making these quilts/blankets/threads happen.

CarGirl · 21/03/2011 22:51

It would be lovely if there are enough squares of a similar colour (ie shades many many shades of blue) so you could make a few balloons out of putting different colours together.

Does that make sense?

Sorry I don't have any fabric anymore to do this sort of thing Sad

It could be a double/kingsize quilt for Edgar's parents bed.

KnottyLocks · 21/03/2011 22:51

Ooo ta.

I'm now working on Rebecca to send us a square Grin

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 21/03/2011 22:57

i would like to do one.

does it have to be a particular colour or anything?

peeriebear · 21/03/2011 22:57

I would love to contribute, I love sewing/applique and would like to feel I can help in some tiny way.
Is there any guideline on fabric thickness or type?

madamimadam · 21/03/2011 23:22

You're no minnow, Knotty. You're brill (and Pixie and pidjin too, obv)

Can I ask what a 3/4 hem is, please?
And is there a date you want the squares in by?

And how lovely about the balloons and flowers. Such beautiful ideas x

madamimadam · 21/03/2011 23:24

Sorry, Knotty. That'll teach me not to refresh before posting - I see you answered all my questions Blush

KnottyLocks · 22/03/2011 07:18

Morning Smile

Thisisyesterday, we've said any colour although many are going for a brighter colour as Edgar's son loved bright colours, flowers and balloons. Some are doing embroidery on white cotton.

Peeriebear, the fabric is cotton or good quality polycotton. Think dressmaking/ quilting/ crafting weight.

Morning all. Just wanted to say, I thought Cargirl's first point from last night sounded lovely if it didn't make things too complicated. It would look really effective. Also to say thanks to you all who've taken the reins for all this. It's fab. Anyway, will be working on mine tonight as soon as the bubs are in bed. (If I'm not asleep myself. Mind you, have been known to accomplish quite a lot in my sleep. I think it's when I'm at my best.) Smile

HelpMeWanda · 22/03/2011 07:56

I see from the funeral thread that Edgar is thinking of the In The Night Garden song for the end... perhaps we could find some ITNG applique? Or make some?
