Right, now picture them in that assembly.

Crikey. Is this a new thing ? That children can't be upset? Or offended?

Seriously, giraffe, what is the alternative here?

If the school wants to extricate itself from gender ideology there is obviously going to be some fallout.

They will have some children who are clearly in trouble, some who are pissed of, and some who are utterly relieved.

Carrying on with a dangerous reality denying ideology, that is doomed to failure, is not the answer.

How would you do it, in that case?

Hercisback · 15/04/2023 14:43

IME teachers aren't pushing this ideology. Teachers use chosen pronouns if they are asked to (by a head of year or equivalent). That's about it.

It is damaging. So we need a way to stop the damage.

I have a young dc and older ones. I hope the youngest is not subject to this by the time she reaches secondary.

More likely under Labour.

You only find out what the teachers are up to if you regularly talk to your kids and they are truthful with you.

You make out like we're some heavily organised mob trying to infiltrate young minds with gender ideology. Really I'd be glad if they took on board the maths I was teaching.

There is no organised big conspiracy. Teaching has a range of attitudes and opinions (and if political, these shouldn't be shared). Teachers actively pushing gender ideology are few and far between.

There is no clear official guidance, that is the problem.

RufustheSpeculatingreindeer · 15/04/2023 14:54

I honestly and truly don’t get the drag queen and children thing

As adult entertainment? Fair enough, I appreciate it is part of gay culture

but whats the point of having them in school?

Some teachers certainly are; they may well just be lone teachers who do this, though, in many schools, or who run the LGBTQ+ lunchtime club.

My daughter has been telling her pupils there are only two sexes when the issue has come up and the kids have joked " You're gonna get yourself cancelled, Miss".

NotHavingIt · 15/04/2023 14:56

Seriously, though, we're in a weird situation when the pupils are having to tolerate teachers pushing the idea that "sex is not binary and that at some point brain differences will be found that explain gender identity".

noblegiraffe · 15/04/2023 14:57

NEU are not affiliated with Labour.

Unions are normally run by boomers not young recently trained NHS/education activists.

PomegranateOfPersephone · 15/04/2023 15:00

Rufus, I just keep remembering PIE and wonder if there is a new iteration which is trying to be less obvious and open about the end goal.

Why I wonder are the Unions so prone to believing in this new quasi religion? Or at least why have they chosen to embrace it?

It is not in the interests of the majority of workers. In fact it directly conflicts with the interests of many of their members. What is in it for those directing policy?

Patents and taxpayers should tell librarians and teachers that they should fund a dream boys vist in their own time from their ptlrivatw budget and the police should be trying to secure convictions of fraud misappropriation of funds, inducing illness and CSA.

I'm sorry, but that is not true, though It may be the case in some schools. I'm an ex teacher and when I left teaching in 2010 it simply was not a thing at all. No-one had even heard of a gender identity.

My daughter is teaching now, though, and during her training year she has experienced and witnessed gender ideology being pushed in each of her training schools and now she has qualified in both of the schools she has being employed at.

In one school a young trans identified male teacher was running a lunchtime LGBTQ+ lunchtime club and was actively suggesting to some girls (. a girls school) that they 'might be trans'.

Jesus NEU no me either. The left has lost it. Not just here but look o/s for examples.

I haven’t seen a suggestion on solving this from those who are pro gender ideology on this thread.

Is it to just keep lying to children…

Yep. I, personally, haven't pushed anything.

I do teach some mentally fragile and vulnerable pupils who would be absolutely devastated to be put through a whole school assembly suggesting that their gender identity was fictitious.

I think schools would be daft to take any particular action now while still waiting for the much heralded government guidance.

I did mention Labour, it’s a question

Are you more ok with women thought of as dinosaurs?

Would you vote for them knowing they think of women as such?

This is a thread about Sunak so try as you will I'm not going to change it to one about Labour. I won't vote for racists, will you?

WinnipegDink · 15/04/2023 15:10

What frightens me now is that the teachers that I have contact with seem to undergo more training about trans ideology than they have ever done about SEN and how to spot and support. I'd always assumed that there was robust training on the latter. Seems I was wrong. Scary that the priority is now the former.

MarshaBradyo · 15/04/2023 15:10

Ds is aware of gender stuff, it comes from the school. My discussion focuses on you can’t change sex.

A bit like Gordon Brown with Gillian Duffy, are you not incorrectly conflating 'racism' with a desire for some control over immigration levels.

Oh right, you hear what Braverman says and think it is a desire for some control. Personally I hear racism as do some senior members of the Conservative party. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it might just be a duck.

Why is Sunak a racist?
