I think that CAMHS has, at least historically, had a vested interest in diagnosing their patients with gender issues.
If the child's distress can be blamed on gender rather than general anxiety that often comes hand in had with gender diversity then they child (and parents) can be signposted to Mermaids or Gids. Case closed, waiting list shortened.
I definitely think they wanted to pin some of my daughters sensory and communication issues on gender if they could get away with it.
It would explain why so many autistic girls, locally to me, identify as trans. I don't think it is a coincidence.
