What frightens me now is that the teachers that I have contact with seem to undergo more training about trans ideology than they have ever done about SEN and how to spot and support. I'd always assumed that there was robust training on the latter. Seems I was wrong. Scary that the priority is now the former.

According the the journalist Rishi is playing us as much as Keir, that's why it's all words not deeds.

There is no organised big conspiracy. Teaching has a range of attitudes and opinions (and if political, these shouldn't be shared). Teachers actively pushing gender ideology are few and far between.

It doesn't take many.

At my school, all teachers (via inset) and pupils (via PSHE) have been instructed that gender identity is definitely real and it is utterly wrong not to use preferred pronouns.

Any teacher questioning this gets a very hard time for making other, more special, staff "uncomfortable".

This is a thread about Sunak so try as you will I'm not going to change it to one about Labour. I won't vote for racists, will you?

It’s also about sex / gender, anti women or not so it’s more relevant than trying to divert to immigration 🤷‍♂️

Hercisback · 15/04/2023 15:17

@Wimpod I've not had any training on gender issues ever. Been teaching for 13+ years.

I've had lots on SEN.

I suspect our opinions on how prevalent gender issues are I have school is clouded by our own experience as there hasn't been much research.

I was giving a reason why I couldn't vote for Sunak, or any racists in response to the first sentence in this thread, here it is if you've forgotten it Looks like I am voting Tory!

Why is Sunak a racist?

He's supporting Braverman. He needs to follow advice from senior Conservatives and distance himself from her.

I'm guessing schools in the big cities are far more likely to be hot beds of gender ideology? Are you in a big city?

I think a lot of young gay staff have been pretty radicalised by gender ideology.

NotHavingIt · 15/04/2023 15:30

Hercisback · 15/04/2023 14:43

IME teachers aren't pushing this ideology. Teachers use chosen pronouns if they are asked to (by a head of year or equivalent). That's about it.

What happens if a staff member feels uncomfortable about doing that?

I have had "training" which was complete nonsense. We were required to pass a test at the end, which was only possible by regurgitating the nonsense.

So what?

I get a question about the anti women party might be uncomfortable. They don’t want people talking about their view on this either…

Don’t mention we’re woeful on gender, maybe women will stop discussing it or us

Anyway whatever, don’t answer. A bit Keir-like.

Funny you should mention that, NotHavingIt...

HipTightOnions · 15/04/2023 15:34

That’s so shit.

Thanks, EndlessTea. Some of us did refuse, but it didn't go down well!

Can you give some examples?

What happens if anyone voices any concerns or discomfort with having to say things they know not to be true or which they don't believe in?

No idea. Guess they use name instead?

I tick the big city box, still not seen anything like the stories on here.

Like noble said, schools would be foolish to do anything now, whilst waiting for guidance.

nilsmousehammer · 15/04/2023 15:50

Yes this is going to have to be done sensitively, but it is not going to possible to sort out the huge issues at hand in a way that everyone will be happy with.

We have women stuck in life threatening relationships because refuges are inaccessible, unable to get help with their rape because the rape crisis centres are inaccessible, toilets inaccessible, hospital wards - they're obviously a smidge upset.

To fix this, the male people that will need to hear the word 'no' and 'you're going to need to make different decisions and respect other people's need for access and inclusion as well as your own' are also going be a smidge upset.

It's the same in schools. Sorting out this unholy mess is not going to be easy and pain free. Which is something women here have been pointing out for a decade: that the longer it was allowed to muddle on and non trans people (largely female ones) were acceptable collateral, the harder it was going to be when the time came where the 'no' had to be said.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the guidance. Hell will freeze over before the DfE civil servants produce guidance that the Schools Minister will be willing to sign off.

I agree with you

If we leave it even longer it will get harder still

In schools it's mainly girls.

HipTightOnions · 15/04/2023 15:58

Can you give some examples?

Trans means: a person's gender is not the same as the sex they were assigned at birth.

Gender dysphoria means: visible gender does not match gender identity.

45% of young trans people have tried to take their own life.

And so on.

What were the consequences?

Complaints to the Head, very public reprimand, name-calling from colleagues etc.

Thanks to Maya F, I could be confident in asserting my right to disagree. Things have calmed down a bit since because they know I'm right.

Is that what you do. Use the child's name instead?
