Matt Rattley, Oxford lecturer, and his prosthetic breasts

From X:

"Matt Rattley, a non-stipendiary biochemistry lecturer at Oxford's St Hilda’s College and part-time in the Department of Biochemistry, shared recent photos of himself wearing noticeable prosthetic breasts while teaching. Critics raise concerns about the impact on students, including young female GCSE and A-level tutees and women at the historic women’s college, with some academics like Professor Michael Biggs suggesting it could create a degrading environment or even amount to sexual harassment. Oxford University emphasizes maintaining professional standards and respect for students while fostering inclusivity, but declines to comment on individual cases. The situation highlights ongoing discussions over personal expression versus workplace expectations in education."

Of course it's sexual harassment. I'd go as far as to say it's assault - forcing women to participate in his fetish without their consent. Women and girls - he also tutors A level and GCSE students.

I am so sick of these men and their perversions being forced on us, and if we do not consent we're the bad guys. Just, no. Enough.

It's particularly egregious that it's St Hilda's. It's co ed now, but was set up as a place for women to study when men wouldn't let them into the other colleges. So disrespecting women in this way is even more offensive than normal.

I completely agree. A proud feminist institution employing this character. How incredibly disappointing.

There was a thread about this last year and we all got scolded for saying it was clearly a fetish by someone claiming to be an "Oxford Feminist" an oxymoron in itself if they are defending this pervert. The lengths some people go to in order to refuse to see what is plainly in front of them is astounding. I really feel for the female students of this man.

Edit: apologies it wasn't last year that thread was created, it was earlier this year - it's felt like a long year...

Ah, 'Oxford Feminist'. I had such high hopes that she was going to explain why all the batshittery is entirely rational and actually of great advantage to women, but she just scolded and scarpered.

I suspect you had a rather sheltered upbringing compared to many.

I’m rather old and have lived a life. I’m yet to meet a bearded man with gigantic fake tits.

What a bizarrely goady post.

I don’t approve, it’s creepy and perverse. I’m not overly delighted with my son’s university having a fetish society, also a furries one but at least membership of these groups is optional.

Noscrubss · Yesterday 18:03

Dear god. It would be inappropriate for a woman to dress like that anyway.

I don't understand why academia doesn't seem capable of addressing this kind of nonsense.

CozItsHotOut · Yesterday 18:05

Fuck that. Not a chance I’d sit in a lecture or a staff room with that creep!

IwantToRetire · Yesterday 18:32

Part of the problem is that the OP is based on a Grok complied "news" story on X. And it has done exactly what he wanted.

He returned to work for the autumn term and released pictures to show he is still wearing his parody breasts.

And Grok has given him the publicity he wanted.

Although the real culprit is Oxford University who never sanctioned him in the first place.

So if anyone should be being challenged is why the University thinks this is okay to inflict on the financially challenged students.

Talk about normalisation.

PersonIrresponsible · Yesterday 18:38

And to think I was suspended from school because I had the audacity to dye my hair maroon.

A mate at uni was told his mohican would make him unemployable.

And we've got this at our premier universities?

gardenflowergirl · Yesterday 19:03

Surely there is a professional dress code for staff. No precessional woman would walk around with half her breasts out like that so neither should he, even if he wants to be trans.
Presenting himself like that seems fetish and confrontational.

I think this says it all. Nothing else required.

I can imagine he will be the object of derision by students. Kids can be brutal. Presumably you only do this if you really, really don't care what people think. But if he has hurty feelings about people being horrible, then maybe he should... stop.

Unfortunately, these days, the students will be the ones getting "sanctioned".....

MyDogLikesKayaking · Yesterday 19:21

I bet he didn’t wear them to his interview. No, they wait until their feet are under the table, probation passed, the 2 year contract termination passed, then they unveil their true authentic selves.

murasaki · Yesterday 19:30

The ad on this thread a few posts up is for a bra.....

IwantToRetire · Yesterday 19:33

What is disgusting and came up on the original thread is that (one time you can support lurking journalists) he doesn't dress like this eg when out shopping, etc., etc..

In other words he does this because he has a captive audience of young people, some of who might be quite naive away from home for the first time. And along with learning to look after themselves, having to navigate competing students groups, and so on, may think they should accept, because the University is enabling him, that this is normal.

I suspect none of the existing student unions are doing anything about his obvious abuse of his position as a lecturer towards his students.

He must go home each day thrilled at his success.

Couldn't really care less if he wants to wear some fake boobs, but if he must do, he should dress them the same as any professional woman would! He needs a modesty panel on that dress.

Other than that, I wouldn't engage with it. A reaction is what people want when they do things like this, why give it to them?

It'd be the same if a woman decided to wear a packer to work - wear it with a standard pair of chino's, fine, who cares, but don't wear it with some skin tight leggings.

I dont think I agree with this - I don't think modesty panels would be a fix here. The other tops in the photos on the X post do have higher necklines, but I don't think people will read them as less sexual because of the large breasts underneath

The the blue dress isnt that much different from dresses I've seen women wear to office jobs. E.g. www.disturbia.co.uk/products/kallista-striped-midi-wrap-dress is described as a work dress even though also plunge wrap neckline. I think the blue dress looks more low cut because the angle and the size of the breasts.

It's more I'm now interested what the story actually is because I'm sure there is one

But I don't go there so once again it's none of my business.

The actual story is that a man has shown up to work in outrageous fetish gear, to teach young women, but no-one can say anything because they're petrified they'll be called transphobic by extreme transactivists.

Comtesse · Yesterday 19:37

Dorothea Beale set up St Hilda’s College in 1893. She was the principal of Cheltenham Ladies’ College as well. She was quite a formidable woman as you might imagine, and dedicated her life to educating young women. I hate to think what she would make of this person.

If a tradesman came to my house dressed like that I'd be calling the police. I wonder who they'd arrest?

Neither of you but I suspect they'd ask you very nicely not to waste their time in future unless/until he commits a criminal act.

Minasama · Yesterday 19:46

Well I laughed! But what a ridiculous individual. I’d probably be more sympathetic if he didn’t have a beard and look like a man in all other respects.

What is a furries society? The mind boggles!

so you'd be okay to watch debates in the House of Commons with the women wearing bikinis and the men wearing hot pants and studded dog collars? And vice versa, of course.

A fetish society and a furries one? Blimey. We had the sailing club, the wine society, the riding club (horses, for the avoidance of doubt) etc.

Universities are deeply weird places these days. What a tit this man is. Bet the students are ripping the piss out of him in the bar after lectures
