Silence on Cornell

So… about J.K. Rowling. And the Cornell Seven, but we will get to that.

Here’s the thing: I liked Harry Potter growing up. It was the first and only chapter book my mom read to me, and I learned to read so I could read the second on my own after she refused to so so (for my own benefit).
Each year I was in school, there was a new book. I loved that they grew in depth as the characters aged. Yes, there were problems and problematic characters, but that’s a later subject.

I soured on Harry Potter when JKR kept adding things from the Pottermore website as canon: making Dumbledore gay was fine and easy to see in the book (see Grindelwald!), but the thing I hated was making Dumbledore in love with Harry
The greatest wizard of an age, hero and mentor to our protagonist… was revealed to be a pedophile in the post-script.
That’s shitty. My appreciation for the series soured after that, because suddenly the only “gay” representation is predatory and a heinous crime at that.

Fast forward a few years, and we see JKR’s anti-trans stance. Why? “Because she’s protecting real women!” She’s a TERF (derogatory) at best, but I think she’s actually much worse than that.

You see, she views those who support her works as synonymous with supporting her views, so to engage with her beloved franchise is to embolden her anti-trans and pro-billionaire crusade.

She recently bullied Amnesty International into apologizing to her for simply stating facts (look it up!)

She wields real power in many ways, but what does she use it for? Oppression of the marginalized.

Now we come to the latest, and in many ways most concerning, activity or, rather, lack thereof; the Cornell 7.

Not once has she spoken or tweeted about the Cornell 7 (see attached image), a subject which would be *directly in support of women,” her alleged championed-cause.
She could speak out on this cause with ease, reaching millions. She could, at a stroke, fund all of Jane Doe's legal costs. But she doesn't. When there's actually a genuine case of harm of women but one that doesn't have the desired effect of harming marginalized communities she's as silent as the grave.

So no. I can’t in good faith engage with the franchise i used to love BECAUSE of the author, and JKR needs a real wake-up call before she does more harm.

“Talks on behalf of women” my ass. She’s almost as bad as Trumplestien.

OK 👌

CassOle · 05/10/2026 11:51

Another anti-JKR thread. Aren't we lucky.

Maaate · 05/10/2026 11:54

Maybe we could have a list of everyone who hasn't tweeted about Cornell 🤷‍♀️

SolitaryWeasel · 05/10/2026 11:56

Jings, that's an awful lot of words just to say, "Fecking men doing fecking horrible things is all JKR's fault."
Wasn't there a thread at some point where JKR was blamed for everything from global warming to burnt toast. My shower is leaking and it is all JKR's fault.

CassOle · 05/10/2026 11:57

Is the OP another C&P from X/Bluesky?

JamesKirkupReviewWritersFund · 05/10/2026 11:58

That's nice dear, now eat your greens

DrBlackbird · 05/10/2026 11:59

So, here’s the thing: the least these anti JKR posters could do is write their ridiculous posts without relying on GenAI.

ZanyAnt · 05/10/2026 11:59

I note that not a single responder so far has anything to say on JKR's shameful silence on the Cornell case.

It would appear her disciples are as silent as she is about topics that actually matter to women; unless, of course, those topics allow them to attack others whilst feigning support.

For shame.

Maybe we could get MN to set up an anti-JKR board?

Then all the TRAs who are obsessed with her and every little thing she does could go there and crow about it

and cry about how they used to love Harry Potter until mummy said some nasty things

Is this just you processing through your thoughts and feelings on JKR?

There is absolutely no evidence that you want input from others on them to help you develop some nuance and balance.

I’m really not sure why you are posting this. It is ok to keep these as inside thoughts you know.

Delphin · 05/10/2026 12:03

Isn't Cornell in the USA? Has JKR helped with legal costs outside the UK? (I don't think she has. That would be a bottomless barrel to fill...)

Pingponghavoc · 05/10/2026 12:03

The problem with women is that if they tweet about something they are obsessed. If they dont, they are evil.

MalcolmTent · 05/10/2026 12:04

Oh ffs.

Tears0fTheMushroom · 05/10/2026 12:04

Why do people engage with this goady shit?
Just hide the thread. I'm going to

Iainsninelives · 05/10/2026 12:04

Wait, you are saying you will no longer have anything to do with JKR because of something she didn't do? Now, I’m not her biggest fan, i am a trans ally (i know, frowned upon here, but i never join the conversations so) but even I can’t fault someone for not saying something. That’s utterly weird. Why do you think JKR is obligated to speak on this?

I must've missed Andy Burnham's statement on this case?
Zack Polanski?
Windy Willoughby? (I'm scraping the barrel now for TRA spokespeople)

Where have you, OP, spoken or tweeted about the Cornell 7 in a way that proves you actually care about the victim?

You're just yet another poster weaponizing this case and the victim's horrendous experience and real distress to score cheap points about something unrelated.

For shame.

🙄🙄🙄

And the first rule of misogyny is…

As an aside interesting to see I’m now a disciple, I thought I was an alt-right/Christian funded something or other.

Why do you think JKR is obligated to speak on this?

Thank you for saying this.

QiBengong · 05/10/2026 12:11

It is possible to care about things without posting on X, it is possible to support and fund things privately, without announcing it.

Considering the money JKR donates to womens organisations and survivors of rape she probably does more practical good for rape victims than any number of performative posters on X. You could perhaps make a list of Tra types who have also not posted anything about the case, if that was in any way helpful?

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 05/10/2026 12:11

How long did the last thread like this last ? That one claimed the woman was raped due to transphobia.

somekindofdoughnut · 05/10/2026 12:11

She's not American, she doesn't teach in the USA, Cornell is not in Scotland - I realize this is big news in the USA, but the UK has its own problems to deal with. And what is there to say about this case anyway? It's just men doing what men have always done. We all know it is reprehensible and to be condemned - except, apparently, the people in charge at Cornell and in the USA.

tokennamechange · 05/10/2026 12:32

um, where on earth was it revealed that Dumbledore was in love with Harry? Any actual evidence for this please?

JKR does a lot to support women, including victims of rape, in her own country including literally setting up a rape support centre. Why on earth do you think she's under some sort of obligation to post about and pay for the victims of rape worldwide? Or is it just american exceptionalism?

Impic · 05/10/2026 12:34

I've just seen this exact same post on Facebook.

Word for word.

What can JKR say about this case except platitudes that may or may not be welcomed by the victim?

I bet if she had said something TRAs would find a reason why she shouldn't have.

Whether or not JKR cares about this particular case is entirely irrelevant to trans issues. Do you think you saying, "look, she's a bad person" is going to make sex stop being a biological immutable fact?
