Silence on Cornell

So… about J.K. Rowling. And the Cornell Seven, but we will get to that.

Here’s the thing: I liked Harry Potter growing up. It was the first and only chapter book my mom read to me, and I learned to read so I could read the second on my own after she refused to so so (for my own benefit).
Each year I was in school, there was a new book. I loved that they grew in depth as the characters aged. Yes, there were problems and problematic characters, but that’s a later subject.

I soured on Harry Potter when JKR kept adding things from the Pottermore website as canon: making Dumbledore gay was fine and easy to see in the book (see Grindelwald!), but the thing I hated was making Dumbledore in love with Harry
The greatest wizard of an age, hero and mentor to our protagonist… was revealed to be a pedophile in the post-script.
That’s shitty. My appreciation for the series soured after that, because suddenly the only “gay” representation is predatory and a heinous crime at that.

Fast forward a few years, and we see JKR’s anti-trans stance. Why? “Because she’s protecting real women!” She’s a TERF (derogatory) at best, but I think she’s actually much worse than that.

You see, she views those who support her works as synonymous with supporting her views, so to engage with her beloved franchise is to embolden her anti-trans and pro-billionaire crusade.

She recently bullied Amnesty International into apologizing to her for simply stating facts (look it up!)

She wields real power in many ways, but what does she use it for? Oppression of the marginalized.

Now we come to the latest, and in many ways most concerning, activity or, rather, lack thereof; the Cornell 7.

Not once has she spoken or tweeted about the Cornell 7 (see attached image), a subject which would be *directly in support of women,” her alleged championed-cause.
She could speak out on this cause with ease, reaching millions. She could, at a stroke, fund all of Jane Doe's legal costs. But she doesn't. When there's actually a genuine case of harm of women but one that doesn't have the desired effect of harming marginalized communities she's as silent as the grave.

So no. I can’t in good faith engage with the franchise i used to love BECAUSE of the author, and JKR needs a real wake-up call before she does more harm.

“Talks on behalf of women” my ass. She’s almost as bad as Trumplestien.

@ZanyAnt- from the spelling /phrasing of your OP, I’m assuming you are American, would I be right? And as such, I’m guessing this is a very big story in the US, something that pretty much all US based feminists and men’s rights activists have taken a stance on, discussed publicly. Have I got that right? Is it one of those big cases in your news cycle that everyone’s talking about and you have heard from pretty much everyone about it?

Thing is, while it has been reported on some news websites, it’s not a big story over here in the UK. It’s not had a great deal of coverage and very few UK based commentators (from either side of the discussion) have said anything.

However what you might have missed, being US and not UK based, is its party conference time. JKR has commented on the Green Party conference.

does Jane Doe need to raise funds for her legal costs and can’t find local donators? if she was looking to get her legal costs supported, that definitely hasn’t been reported in the UK so I’m not sure it’s fair to expect JKR to have known she might need financial help.

Somnambule · 05/10/2026 12:34

I've just read the OP word for word posted by some dudebro on Facebook.

SockPlant · 05/10/2026 12:42

We should start a list of people who haven't made a statement on this and pile on them. Cunts. All of them

I haven't seen ANY drag queens comment on this. Shocked.

OneoftheWeddingPeople · 05/10/2026 12:59

You’ve just decided that everything she does is wrong. So that’s that really.

Igneococcus · 05/10/2026 12:59

She recently bullied Amnesty International into apologizing to her for simply stating facts (look it up!)

We've had a gazillion threads about the Amnesty report. I assume this wasn't written specifically for MN.

womendeserveequalhumanrights · 05/10/2026 13:08

My tap is wobbly. Almost certainly JKR's fault. I see she still hasn't commented on it, despite me living a long way away, or even said a few platitudes.

Bloody hell! As if entertaining me, getting my children to read (and inspiring their imagination) and doing loads of incredibly generous things with her money such as funding support for raped women, helping get Afghani women away from the Taliban and helping children all over the world over decades was gift enough for one mere human.

Obviously she's just unconscionable if she won't deign to ALSO FIX MY TAP and comment on every injustice the world over ever!

TL DR version:
Waaah! Mummy won't give in to my strop!

Maaate · 05/10/2026 13:10

You could perhaps make a list of Tra types who have also not posted anything about the case, if that was in any way helpful?

We've had at least 2 threads started on here by TRAs using this horrendous case purely to have a pop at MN posters and now JKR.

No shock, anger or sympathy for Jane Doe. No actual discussion of the events, no condemnation of the vile men who perpetrated and enabled it to happen. No mention of the institutional response and cover up of what happened.

Just salivating over a chance to slag off other women

For shame OP. Disgusting

I'm no fan of JKR's demonisation & dehumanisation of trans people but I don't think its a betrayal of feminism not to comment on the Cornell 7 case yet until all the facts are known that won't be fully revealed until the court case comes to fruition. But what is certainly noteworthy is the misogynistic views both by women & men regarding the culpability of women's liberties & feminism for this issue.

I don't know any feminist worth their weight that isn't thoroughly disgusted & outraged by the misogynistic attitudes on full display on X at the moment. Its really grim so in that sense people particularly with powerful reach who claim to be supporters of women's rights should be calling it out.

In terms of rejecting JKR's work I would also caution against conflating the author with their work particularly since they are in contradiction to one another. As John Lithgow implied in not so many words, while the work has value to fight against bigotry it shouldn't be shunned.

I note that not a single responder so far has anything to say on JKR's shameful silence on the Cornell case.

It would appear her disciples are as silent as she is about topics that actually matter to women; unless, of course, those topics allow them to attack others whilst feigning support.

For shame.

Oh feck off with your purity testing.

You’re talking complete and utter nonsense. Unless you’ve been glued to a persons side 24/7 then you have absolutely NO idea what they have or haven’t said about any particular subject, especially allegations that have not been proven.
I feel quite sorry for you, your life must be very empty.

sohard · 05/10/2026 13:20

Thousands of women per hour are raped worldwide. Are we expecting JKR to speak about every single one?

To be fair, she’s also been silent on HS2, the Fairfield terrorist incident and the Strictly come dancing controversy. You’d think she d be commenting on those as well.

Another TRA using the gang rape of a woman to make a point. Repulsive.

for context Jane Does legal team is working on contingency so she doesn’t currently have legal fees. Which you’d know if you actually cared. And JK doesn’t just talk. She funds UK women’s services out of her own pocket. Along with disability services and others. She’s not just an internet talking point.

So funny though because you are the second TRA to come on here and exploit the gang rape of a young woman in order to make it all about trans people (and also have a little whinge about JKR, in your case).

Neither of you posted anything suggesting you actually gave a monkeys about this woman and the ordeal she went through. You just saw an opportunity to moan and put "Cornell in the title to get clicks. Given your own criteria, this would rather suggest that you are lacking "a functioning moral compass", as you put it.

I am shocked, I tell you. A trans rights nut job who doesn't care about women?! Whoever could have seen that coming?
