Silence on Cornell

So… about J.K. Rowling. And the Cornell Seven, but we will get to that.

Here’s the thing: I liked Harry Potter growing up. It was the first and only chapter book my mom read to me, and I learned to read so I could read the second on my own after she refused to so so (for my own benefit).
Each year I was in school, there was a new book. I loved that they grew in depth as the characters aged. Yes, there were problems and problematic characters, but that’s a later subject.

I soured on Harry Potter when JKR kept adding things from the Pottermore website as canon: making Dumbledore gay was fine and easy to see in the book (see Grindelwald!), but the thing I hated was making Dumbledore in love with Harry
The greatest wizard of an age, hero and mentor to our protagonist… was revealed to be a pedophile in the post-script.
That’s shitty. My appreciation for the series soured after that, because suddenly the only “gay” representation is predatory and a heinous crime at that.

Fast forward a few years, and we see JKR’s anti-trans stance. Why? “Because she’s protecting real women!” She’s a TERF (derogatory) at best, but I think she’s actually much worse than that.

You see, she views those who support her works as synonymous with supporting her views, so to engage with her beloved franchise is to embolden her anti-trans and pro-billionaire crusade.

She recently bullied Amnesty International into apologizing to her for simply stating facts (look it up!)

She wields real power in many ways, but what does she use it for? Oppression of the marginalized.

Now we come to the latest, and in many ways most concerning, activity or, rather, lack thereof; the Cornell 7.

Not once has she spoken or tweeted about the Cornell 7 (see attached image), a subject which would be *directly in support of women,” her alleged championed-cause.
She could speak out on this cause with ease, reaching millions. She could, at a stroke, fund all of Jane Doe's legal costs. But she doesn't. When there's actually a genuine case of harm of women but one that doesn't have the desired effect of harming marginalized communities she's as silent as the grave.

So no. I can’t in good faith engage with the franchise i used to love BECAUSE of the author, and JKR needs a real wake-up call before she does more harm.

“Talks on behalf of women” my ass. She’s almost as bad as Trumplestien.

And still nobody, absolutely nobody, has managed to answer my post with anything approaching a valid counter-argument.

Not surprised tbh.

and still you haven't actually provided anything approaching actual evidence for anything you've said...

Still waiting for the paedo!dumbledore explanation!

I need to see the evidence that JK said Dumbledore was in love with Harry cus that just sounds like mad bullshit or, at best, an incredible stretch/twisting of her words.

I also don't get why her stance on Cornell is 'disgusting' when she hasn't given a stance on Cornell?

For all we know she could be on a retreat or be down with the flu. Perhaps she, like many of us, particularly survivors, is somewhat separating herself from the details of the story to protect her own mental health.

Demanding immediate social commentary from famous people on specific topics is just fucking weird.

Reading into the lack of a comment to this extent is nothing short of dangerous.

murasaki · 05/10/2026 19:45

Maybe Zany confused weird fanfic with the actual books.

she didn't. she did one of those recon things and said he was gay and had been in love with a character called Grindelwald.

what happens is someone comes out with some bollocks and it trickles down and before you know it, wazzocks are repeating it as fact.

For all we know she is supporting the victim, quietly, in the background. All we actually know is JKR is not all over social media making this poor woman's story all about her and her image and her causes.

So you have confirmed you are American. Shocker.

An American right-winger at that. That's their rhetoric.

GrumpyPanda · 05/10/2026 21:16

Error404FucksNotFound · 05/10/2026 18:06

Tbh I dont care what if anything she has to say about it.

I care what the police are doing about it.
I care what the university is doing about it.
I care what men are doing about it.

I dont see any value in trying to shove her into it.

I would prefer to focus on the issue rather than try to use it to have a crack at her. That is distasteful, to say the least.

Actually, I care mostly what New York State legislators say about it. Because from following American legal fora it seems it's their utterly fucked up rape laws, with consent assumed even from somebody drugged or intoxicated up to their eyeballs, that's primarily to blame for this clusterfuck. Aside from the peeps, obviously.

ZanyAnt · 05/10/2026 15:10

Women's rights, and infringements of those rights, know no national boundaries.

Which you'd know if...

ya'know 🙄

If that’s your position you better cross check your own SM posts with every women in the world whose rights have been infringed since you decided you were a feminist, and then cancel yourself if you haven’t posted in support of each of them.

Says the person from the country with a wrecked economy (our stock market - that rules the world, by the way - is doing juuuust fine), mass stabbings everywhere, and really bad teeth!

We're number 1 in tech as well. You think yr Mumsnet is on a British server? think again. Only AWS - AMERICAN TECH - has the power to run the world's servers.
And that computer yr typign your bullshit on? Windows or Apple. American brands.

Everything in the modern world you get from us

Now I'm a Brit, but I'm not taking credit for the work of Ada Lovelace, Charles Babbage (though I;ve a friend related to him), Alan Turing or Tim Berners-Lee. So what have you done to contribute to all those advances you cite? You are as responsible for them as I am for those, and each of us just slip streams on the random chance of having been born in our countries. We might have been a Russian, a French or Turk or Prussian, or perhaps Italian, but we're not. And we don't have to defend our pride in our nations by slagging off another, and claiming responsibility for achievements others did the work for.
You think Brits are arrogant? Look in the mirror.

ApplebyArrows · 06/10/2026 10:45

JK Rowling is one of the most overtly anti-rape celebrities in the world. In her writing and in her activism. Implying she's somehow pro-rapist for failing to comment on a specific case in a backward foreign country is deplorable.

ToastSafeFromMothsAndDogs · 06/10/2026 11:19

Does JKR have to tweet about every single sex crime in order to demonstrate she thinks they are bad? Just in UK and US or globally? That would certainly keep her busy.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/10/2026 11:43

As oppose to the OP who, as @Ereshkigalangcleg once observed "sells sanctimony".

Indeed!

If you looked up the word “desperate” in the dictionary, OP would be there.

FrippEnos · 06/10/2026 15:05

If ZanyAnt really cared about this they would know more about the issues with College fraternities and sororities, the power that they have and the probelms that they have caused not only members but those that don't get in but are recruited.

They would also know about the issues with the college internal systems that are used to deal with sexual assaults which have been complained about for years and the results of which never actually go to any legal system and have been abused by both sides of discussion and has been majorly influenced by the politics of the time.

They would know that investigations (if they take polace at all) are done by an on site office. That oftens has its own beliefs (and bias) to protect over those that they are supposed to have.

There are more but its easier to throw abuse at a woman thousands of miles away from the actual issue.

Many of the students that fall foul of this system never get anytype of justice as they have to sigbn agreements protecting the college and even if the didn't they don't have the funds to take it any further.

And their scholarships would disappear if they went public, another motivation not to.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 06/10/2026 15:28

Impic
I bet if she had said something TRAs would find a reason why she shouldn't have.

I haven't read the entire thread (life is too short for the TRA gubbins) but it occurs to me that this unfortunate victim might be pro-trans and hate JKR, in which case JKR saying anything in support of her would just add insult to injury, wouldn't it.

(Apologies if anyone else thought of this pages ago, but wading through yet another mad set of rants is too much for today, I have stuff to do.)

Who new JK haters and Reformers had so much in common?!! 😆

These people literally make things up then get mad about them.

As an aside, wazzock needs to make a comeback.

It's just too good to hear so rarely!

Wazzock should definitely make a comeback but, whenever possible, the full 'spawny eyed, parrot-faced wazzock' should be used.

A brief read of the responses will show they've already done that themselves.
