Why do some people view JK Rowling as transphobic?

Where do people get the idea that JK Rowling is transphobic from? Where? I’m having this argument with an acquaintance who tells me she’s the most transphobic person on earth but cannot point to one single thing that she’s done or said that’s transphobic. Is this the widest held totally bullshit view ever?

Her entire Twitter account is transphobia.

All of it. Calling trans women fetishists, claiming trans guys are all autistic mentally ill survivors (!!), taking the piss out of individual trans and nb people, pushing the 'trans away the gay' lie...only someone who is themselves transphobic refuses to see it.

She's also made some absolutely hateful, repulsive comments about asexual people.

Dismissing her behaviour as 'standing up for women' is deeply disingenuous. That doesn't explain why she reposted a thoughtful article about how a nb parent defined themself with nasty, disparaging comments, to give just one example.

All from a woman who employed a domestic abuser, refused to fire him, defended her decision and ignored the DV groups who asked her to reconsider.

Her attitude towards trans people is extremely consequential when they are suffering very real violence - particularly in schools.

She has reposted Islamophobic content, replied approvingly to obvious fascists and denied that trans people were killed during the Holocaust. She hasn't distanced herself from KJK or any other Islamophobic, racist anti-trans people.

She even defended that hateful, racist danger Linehan.

I'm aware asking 'what JKR has said that's so transphobic' is rarely done sincerely, but just in case: read her own words. Read, if you can stomach it, what she and her cronies (inc that worrying bloke who runs a trans woman parody account) say about trans women's bodies.

Read what she said about Imane Khelif, a young Muslim woman in whose country it's illegal to be trans. Look at how she publicly treated her, based upon little more than rumours and Khelif's appearance.

Khelif is a massive inspiration and fantastic female role-model for young girls in Algeria. They love her for that.

JKR's targeting of a brown Muslim woman has been noted by people normally uninterested in her anti-trans comments. She isn't a doctor, or on the Olympic Committee. It's horrific what she's put that young woman (who's lost plenty of matches to other cis women btw) and others through.

The evidence is all there. Bigots don't get to say they aren't bigots, that's for their targets to name.

You mean trans men are natal females? No one has ever denied this. What's only been denied is their voices by gender critical 'feminists' for their inconvenient presence.

Why is JKR wrong about excluding ‘natal males’ from single-sex spaces designed for females?

Basically, people hate JK because the whole trans movement is riddled with hatred of women – and she's the most prominent target. Evidenced by the fact there are so few middle aged/ older women who claim to be trans... just young, brainwashed girls taught to hate their bodies. The only way older women exist for this movement is as something to be mocked, screamed at and abused. Which is why you get several of them dropping by in the early hours on this particular Mumsnet message board. They're weirdly absent from the parenting board, or the recipes board or any of the others...

• GC people want equal protection between trans people and women.
• GC people don't care what adult trans people do to their bodies.
• GC people have zero problem with trans people being protected from discrimination on the basis of being trans.

Also: how are trans people marginalised? They can transition and have their transitions be paid by the NHS, they can openly live as trans, and they have legal protections against discrimination. So how are they marginalised?

Because insults and lies are all they have. She can’t be cancelled and they have no coherent argument against her views. None of them can find a transphobic quote (direct from her) so they make up a load of bullshit about her, hoping it will stick.

TRAs don’t seem to realise that JKR’s views regarding men with DSDs in women’s sports actually proves she’s not transphobic and it is, and always has been, about males using female single sex provision. Yet they still keep bringing it up as some sort of gotcha about her “transphobia”.

I guess, of all prominent/celebrity opponents to the TRAs, she combines a particular set of characteristics:

• she's very famous, particularly among the demographic to which many trans supporters belong (middle-class younger people - who are especially likely to like Harry Potter);

• she's set out her views clearly and in detail - intelligent opponents scare the TRAs who very rarely manage coherent responses;

• she's a woman (worse, a middle-aged woman) and the trans movement is deeply misogynist to its core.

Ultimately, if JKR is right then all those who disagree with her - TRAs, their handmaids, people who’ve made a career out of supporting this, people who’ve publicly nailed their colours to the trans mast, parents who’ve supported the “transitioning” of their children and the harm that could have caused - are wrong.

And that will never do, those people have got too much to lose. So they keep on with the demonisation.
