Why do some people view JK Rowling as transphobic?

Where do people get the idea that JK Rowling is transphobic from? Where? I’m having this argument with an acquaintance who tells me she’s the most transphobic person on earth but cannot point to one single thing that she’s done or said that’s transphobic. Is this the widest held totally bullshit view ever?

JKR breaks so many of the Rules of Misogyny - and gets away with it. So she must be punished by cancellation and losing income! Ha ha ha. Not going to happen, no matter how much the ideologues try to persuade others that JKR is nasty, bad, Not Kind.

11. Basic pattern recognition skills are cruel and evil when they hurt men's feelings.
12. Whatever women suffer from, men suffer from more.
13. Women are not oppressed! Rape and catcalling and objectification are all compliments, not oppression.
14. Women have all the rights they need: The right to remain silent.

I was told by a gay man that she’s transphobic. I asked what exactly she’s said that is transphobic and he said “oh, allegedly, allegedly”.

In itself no, but when you have a megaphone pointed at 14million people everything you say has a disproportionate impact. Honestly if eugenics isn’t a dealbreaker for her what is?

I had that JKR is transphobic from my DIL a few years ago.

She was confusing LGB with the T (her brother is a gay man) and she has a few gay male friends.

I said show me one transphobic statement, she could not come up with one.

She asked her brother and gay male friends who set her straight on the matter.

Sometimes people believe things, but never openly talk about them until the subject comes up with a TERF like me.

In the las few days i challenged an acquaintance on facebook, whose posts about pride were hitting my feed.

She said JKR is worse than Tommy Robinson.

I gave her a a brief history of JKR life with an abuser and what motivates JKR to come to women’s rights.

Bieras place etc. Have not heard from her since.

Transgenderists have claimed that Gender Critical Feminism is a cult.

Cults control information about themselves and about the wider world. Cults require their members to only get information from the cult. Reading outside approved lists is banned, particularly reading anything that contradicts the cult view. Members are encouraged to cut off any family members who do not support the cult. Ditto friends. Cult members are taught that anything that disagrees with the cult threatens it, and that anything that threatens the cult, threatens them, personally. They are taught that to investigate such threats sullies and harms them. They are punished for curiosity about alternative views.

I think it starred with her ridiculing the "people who menstruate" tag and pondering what those people used to be called. It upset a lot of the delicate non menstruating flowers out there.

The funniest thing about this accusation is that India Willoughby reported her to the police for misgendering her and being transphobic, they investigated and still couldn't pin anything on her!

Some people don’t like the fact that she thinks biological sex is a matter of truth rather than hate.

I think actually that JKR could say anything within the parameters of the law, and the police would not dare touch her.

I cannot recall in history such a female person, and love her for (finally) stepping up to the plate with knobs on.

I've met KJK several times in passing, she's always seemed a decent sort to me. I absolutely take off my hat to her for standing up for women's rights and particularly for providing a space for ordinary women to meet and speak, even in the Dark Times when Wrong Views could get you fired, arrested and/or cancelled. Even when she had to have two security guards standing next to her and a strong police presence just to show up in public. That woman has got ovaries of steel.

Do I agree with everything she says? No. Do I need to? Also, no. I have plenty of friends, acquaintances etc with whom I disagree on various matters most vehemently, but part of being a grown up is hearing an opinion with which you don't agree and debating respectfully or agreeing to disagree. I have no time for purity spirals; they're the preserve of idiots.

People think it's some kind of gotcha for posting selected quotes - if I'd been doxxed, harassed, arrested, threatened, had liquid thrown in my face and feared for my life just for speaking in public AND had my children targeted, I'd probably be as hard line as she is too. All power to her elbow I say.

Saying something to 14 million people doesn’t make it more or less transphobic than saying it to one person.

I thought the eugenics claim was to do with her mentioning the history of trans care (Money et al) aand that they were linked to eugenics which was turned on its head.

I think she is right regarding your first example - women who identify as men shouldnt be having children. They've decided their body is abhorrent, they want to be men - being pregnant, giving birth and the initial months of raising a baby is the No 1 gender affirming experience a woman can have. If they SO desparately want to be "men" they shouldnt even think of having children.
And its 100% not fair to bring children into that environment anyway - brainwashing a child from birth into the cult. Awful idea.

I have asked two different ppl who I know dislike JKR what she has done wrong and I got:
"Why would you ruin your reputation by saying horrible stuff online? She's tarnished her reputation for so many ppl"
And
"Ppl don't change sex for fun, it is hateful to discriminate against them"
