Started because a thread on Girlguiding was getting too off topic.

I first came across the term when the Samoan weightlifting coach complained about Laura Hubbard taking a place away from a young Samoan weightlifter at the Oceania games.

I'll try to find an article.

But the Supreme Court didn't adjudicate on this.

They did though. That’s why lots of trans rights activists were upset and offended.

“I think unisex spaces are best”

Can I just roll my eyes and not respond to this for the millionth time?

Yes I thought of you and thought how extremely tedious it must be to keep repeating yourself ad nauseum! All these posters who somehow think no one else has ever thought of these ‘solutions’. That does deserve an eye roll.

Then what exactly is your point? They aren’t allowed in women’s spaces because they are men, and not women. The end.

My point was that people keep spouting statements like "the Supreme Court has confirmed that trans women are not women!" Which is completely misleading and incorrect:

Again. They did not .
See parag 2 of the judgement,

I never said that. And I engaged with the question. And you rolled your eyes at me.

@EleanorMc67 I merely expressed my opinion on one - toilet access. And I think that unisex cubicles are the most sensible solution.

And I don't. Men pee on the seats. Men pee on the floor. Men are much less likely to wash their hands than women are. Enclosed units (required for unisex toilets) are less safe for anyone with a medical issue. Men are more likely to leave the door open and give everyone an eyeful. Sometimes women need more in the cubicle to accommodate a pram or pushchair, and really will not want to leave the door open to achieve this with men around.

And that's before you get into actual perverted or threatening behaviour (always from men), such as cameras, forcing women into cubicles and assaulting them, rummaging in sanitary bins...

I just saw the first few pages of those wanting men and women to mix giving a ‘solution’ of unisex toilets. Apologies if the conversation has moved on.

A "sensible solution" no less.
But there has also been as well as single sex provision rather than just instead of.

They are called women, much like women who were assigned female at birth are cisgender women. Trans is just an adjective

Women aren’t assigned anything. They are female at birth. You can tell because they have a vulva , male babies on the other hand are identified by the fact they have a penis.
Same with trans women- men in a dress even if they have all their bits cut off.
Do they magically get real breasts or a uterus? ?

You didn't say that. Other people did so I was clarifying that's not what the judgement says.

spannasaurus · Yesterday 17:10

The Supreme Court definition of man, woman and sex applies not only to the Equality Act 2010 but also to the earlier sex discrimination act 1975 (as stated in the judgment) and the Workplace Regulation (as confirmed in a recent GLP legal case)

I suspect that future legal cases will confirm the biological definition applies to all legislation where the two sexes are distinguished from one another - if a biological definition was correct in 1975 and is still correct then it must apply to any law enacted after 1975

I got the name wrong: Laurel Hubbard. Still looking for the article about the coach. This mentions a young woman who had to compete against him.

https://www.samoaobserver.ws/category/sport/86425

I've found the article where the Samoan coach gave his opinion. This is where I first came across the term:

Ereshkigalangcleg · Yesterday 17:11

How is it misleading? They aren’t allowed in women’s spaces because “trans women” are not actually women, they are men. This has been clarified due to prior incorrect and misleading information about the legal status of people who identify as the opposite sex, put around by trans rights activists, which has been confusing for employers and service providers.

Sunnibee · Yesterday 17:11

OneDreamyAquaEagle · Yesterday 17:09

They ruled on it.

No they didn't. They ruled on what the word woman means as it appears in one piece of legislation- the EA 2010.

They did not rule that "a man is always a man, it's not possible to change sex, and a 'transwoman' is by definition, a man."

Taztoy · Yesterday 17:11

Sunnibee · Yesterday 17:10

You didn't say that. Other people did so I was clarifying that's not what the judgement says.

I engaged with the discussion and you rolled your eyes and were repeatedly rude to me.

why?

My point was that people keep spouting statements like "the Supreme Court has confirmed that trans women are not women!" Which is completely misleading and incorrect:

You are absolutely right that nobody is going to control how you use the word 'woman' in your personal life, just as the Supreme Court is not going to adjudicate on the nature of the soul.

However, it's clutching at straws to suggest that 'sex' can have one meaning in the Equality Act and a different meaning in other legislation.

If trans women are women, what does the trans bit mean?

Edited

Which governs access to single sex spaces. In that important piece of legislation it has been clarified that so called “trans women” are men. So do not have access to spaces for women only.

ThatCyanCat · Yesterday 17:13

pollyglot · Yesterday 17:02

Yes of course. I didn't realise you were THAT new to this, are you going to tell us about DSDs next? You have to be a man to be a fa'afafine, nobody pretends they are women. It's a way of dealing with gay and effeminate men within the culture.

Jeez, we are two inches away from "gender neutral toilet at home", aren't we?
