You’ve misunderstood the feminist movement. It was about saying the only thing different about us is our genitals and reproductive organs, which means we are capable of all the things men are.

Saying women are women because of their genitalia isn’t reductive. Saying a man can become a woman because they feel like one is regressive - because if it’s not about genitalia, which bit is it that makes you a woman?

I know many men, and truly the only different between me and them is my body is designed to carry children. I genuinely don’t know what else distinguishes me as a woman from those men.

You might not want to acknowledge it but the way you have been socialised and travelled through life definitely will distinguish you from those men.

That's why their called TRANS woman because they make the transition from male to female don't be bloody idiotic!!!

You can't transition from one sex to the other. At best, you can make superficial modifications to appear to look more like stereotypical members of the other sex. But your body remains the same sexed body as it ever was. That's it, nothing more.

YoureMyWifeNowDave · Yesterday 14:27

Trans women are men. It is not possible to change biological sex. I do not care what these deluded men say, they cannot transition to be a woman any more than I can transition to become a cocker spaniel.

Nobody makes the transition from male to female because it can't be done. The only transition they can actually make is in their heads and bizarrely enough that doesn't count!

You can't transition from one sex to the other. Plus there is no actual criteria to determine if someone is trans or not. You just say it out loud.

Magic innit.

Do we think the OP is an “effeminate gay man, possibly still closeted”-type of transwoman, or the “likes to wear frilly underwear and gets aroused when women refer to him as she”-type transwoman?

"Trans women are men."

Yep. That's what we mean when we say the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Anything said after that is utterly superfluous.

Does it work the other way?
Can females transition to male?
Can I tell Afghan women to identify as men to escape their horrific oppression?
Never realised it was so easy!

DogearedPaperbackWriter · Yesterday 14:30

When I use the term 'trans woman' or 'trans man', I'm only ever doing it to be polite, because no, no-one is actually transitioning from one sex to the other. I typically shorten it to simply 'trans'. Still doesn't mean any literal transitioning is happening, except in someone's head and often how they dress and present themselves (including cosmetic surgery).

When the number of women killed at the hands of men starts declining, and I see as much activism to stop viloemce against women and girls, then I’ll reconsider my position.

For now, its nope. Safe spaces for women remains a priority

As a transwomen, can you;

  • Grow a foetus and birth it?
  • Can you breast feed it?
  • Can you menstruate?

The above answer's are no. So you are not a Woman. It's literally that simple.
Identify however you want, doesn't bother me in the slightest, but don't discredit Women by saying you are the same, you are not.

I think the question is less whether you can menstruate, and more what you would conclude if you don't menstruate.

In females lack of menstruation means pregnancy, poor nutrition, menopause, might be a side effect of medication, or if over 15 a health condition that requires investigation. Lack of a period in a woman is never insignificant.

In men it's just a consequence of being male.

I appreciate the question. I am a trans-fem non-binary person. This means, while I was AMAB, I mostly see myself aligned with femininity. However, I do not see myself within the binary of gender, so that's why I use those pronouns

You can see yourself wherever you like, but other people will see you very clearly. And it won’t be in the category ’woman’.

However, I also believe very strongly that men who have transitioned should not be considered the same as cis men - they are trans women.

  1. What do you mean by "transitioning"?
  2. What is a trans woman? How would you describe them? Especially in relation to women.

I think "trans woman" is a descriptor in itself - they wish to move from living their life as a man to living as a woman.

As to what that entails, yes I think that requires more than wearing lipstick (if that's your inference?). And that's where long-term psychological assessment, hormonal & surgical treatment, living for a defined period of years as the opposite sex etc before full transitioning, come into play.

If someone born male proceeds to, for instance, take hormones/have breast implants, but chooses to retain their lower genitalia permanently, then that's absolutely fine. But strictly speaking I think they are choosing to be what equates outwardly as hermaphrodite, not a trans woman.

If transwomen are women then why did Nicola "I see no motor home" Sturgeon transfer male rapist Isla Bryson to a male jail.

Nicola believes transwomen are women so why on earth did she send a woman, poor Isla, to a men's jail.

Surely if any other woman in Scotland had been sent to a male jail, there would be uproar and yet Nicola did this appalling thing to poor Isla,

Could it just be because... even Nicola believes that a man will always be male from the day he is born to the day he dies because if she doesn't. then what on earth was she thinking by transferring Isla to a male jail.

When it comes right down to it, the magic thinking will always fail.

That would be because hes rapist gender according to Stergeon and clearly "at it" according to useless yousef.

I am, I suppose, a gender realist (thinking scientifically, & also pedantically!!), in that I don't believe that a man can truly become a woman (or vice versa). Not in the genetic sense*. To me, that's just common sense.

To me, the closest comparison I can make is that I'm Irish, lived there for the first 20 years of my life - then moved to Scotland & have lived here for nearly 40 years. I'm both Irish & Scottish in a way - the law says I'm Irish, but I vote here & am immersed in my life in Scotland! I hope that doesn't sound flippant (my trans friends don't think so).

The study doesn't say that the brain of someone who's transitioned becomes that of the opposite sex in its characteristics - it says that brain activity shifts to become more aligned with gender identity. That's not the same thing.

However, I also believe very strongly that men who have transitioned should not be considered the same as cis men - they are trans women. I hate the mockery on here of trans women, the insistence on calling them men or men in "womanface", the assumption that every trans woman is a sexual deviant & opportunist. It's loathsome & hateful & bigoted. IMO there are extremists on both sides of the debate & those are the voices that are heard & make headlines.

I am also a trans ally with several trans friends (all MtF), & believe that the change in law regarding toilet access is wrong & humiliating & had not been thought through properly - then or now.

*I'm excluding the rare hermaphroditic/genetic anomalies here for simplicity. That confuses the issue unnecessarily.

I am also a trans ally with several trans friends (all MtF), & believe that the change in law regarding toilet access is wrong & humiliating & had not been thought through properly - then or now.

A woman is confronted by a man who says he is a woman in the ladies toilets. Do you not think it is wrong and humiliating for her?

Sandie Peggie, in the middle of a menstrual flood went into the female changing rooms to change her scrubs. There was a man in there who identified as a woman. She tried to wait for him to leave before changing. He asked her why she was waiting. It was as if he wanted to watch her change. How humiliating is that for her?

Women’s single sex spaces are for privacy, safety and dignity.

If men who say they are women want private, safe, dignified places to change or pee, why are they not campaigning for them?

Why are they unhappy with the guidance says they should use spaces available to all which are single use and with a floor to ceiling door?

I remember the transes backing away from the brain scan evidence theory because they were worried about the brain scan evidence.

That was bloody years ago.

Think OP is somewhat late to the programme! OP - you need the latest edition of the TRA handbook. Everything you’ve said was in edition 1 which they have since revised. HTH

They are biological females due to this study: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8955456/

Also, if you think stripping down what women are to their body parts, that's what feminists fought against for years. Now women can get jobs, start bank accounts, own property, and so many more things. This is a very regressive view of what women are.

It’s much more regressive to define women by adherence to or identification with gender norms.

The only thing all women have in common is being born female. Naturally, as that’s the only common factor between all women, and as it excludes anyone male, transwomen can’t accept it as a defining factor, so they try to assert that biology is regressive and gender progressive.

Women globally are oppressed on the grounds of our reproductive role, aka biology, aka being the gestating parent. This applies to women and girls who do, and those who don’t actually have children, simply because of biology.

Gender, OTOH, varies by culture, geography, and time. There are no “universally female” cultural expressions of gender, so trying to define anyone as either men or women by the extent to which they conform to or identify with any particular cultural gender norms is ridiculous.

Anyone can express themselves in any terms regarding gender, but gender identity doesn’t equate to sex, and it’s sex which actually matters.

So, trans women are women. I have the evidence too. This is a study done by the NIH looking into the neuro-anatomy of 24 trans women pre-hormone therapy. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8955456/

There are also currently a total of 92 sex offenders who are trans women (this is 0.000135% of the population btw).

CNN did research into bathroom issues in the USA comparing states with inclusive laws vs. bans for trans women. They called various police departments and asked for crime data to do with trans people in the bathrooms that correspond with their perceived gender in both types of state. The conclusion showed that the inclusive law states had significantly lower instances of sexual assault in bathrooms as a whole. In the inclusive law states, many police departments reported 0 crimes.

You are proposing that "trans women" have brains more like actual women than average men do. That kind of research is only possible if you can accurately identify everyone's sex in the study to start with.

I reject the idea that a woman is a man with a penis and a supposedly feminine brain. It's utter nonsense.
